Switzerland revised the final document of the Peace Summit, resulting in significant changes beneficial to Ukraine. The updates include:
- Explicit Mention of Russian Aggression: The previous draft did not explicitly mention "aggression." The new text refers to the "aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine."
- Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty: The earlier draft potentially allowed for Ukraine to renounce part of its territory in exchange for "permanent peace with the Russian Federation." The revised draft firmly states that sustainable peace must be based on respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states.
- Peace Formula Clarity: The previous draft diluted the "peace formula" concept, allowing for alternative peace visions like the Chinese-Brazilian proposal, which suggested halting military activities. The new draft emphasizes that only peace proposals adhering to international law and the UN Charter will be considered.
- Neutral Reference in Peace Negotiations: The revised document avoids mentioning Russia explicitly regarding peace negotiations, instead referring to "all parties."
These changes align the document more closely with Ukraine's interests and international law, ensuring a stronger stance against Russian aggression and clearer terms for any potential peace discussions.
