Slang words you hate!

Around my way people sometimes say "scran" meaning food. "Great scran here" "let's get some scran first".

I hate it. No idea why but the word goes through me.

Also hate when people say "ickle" and holibobs

I hate the word 'kip' for sleep. I know it's unreasonable but eurgh!

I can cope with Kip! But I hate when people say "in my pit" in stead of in bed. Just sounds like a dirty room

“Hubby” grates me! I also get the rage when people mention going out “for some bits”. Bits of what?

Oh God, yes. Fetid and revolting!

LaVidaEsUnaBuenaAventura · 08/05/2024 19:02

Picky tea. Only ever read it on here but urgh.

MortifiedStill · 08/05/2024 19:02

'back double' for a shortcut when driving.

Actually also hate when people say 'job role'. Just say job. I know what it means!

Holiblobs or holibobs are whatever tf it is, for holidays. Itches my teeth.

And itches my teeth, don’t like that one either Grin

Id say scran is actually quite wholesome.

moleeye · 08/05/2024 19:15

"Bruv"

I can feel myself judging....

Scran just sounds like people just shoving food in

Leccy. It makes people sound a bit rough and uneducated. And gives me almost as much rage as hubby and bubba.

LondonLass61 · 08/05/2024 19:18

'My other half' - always disliked it. It sounds like they can't function alone.

Thevelvelletes · 08/05/2024 19:22

Gob smacked
Gosh
Golly gosh
All to be heard on antiques roadshow.
Who talks like that in this day and age?.

PossumintheHouse · 08/05/2024 19:25

Gaff for house. I hate it. HATE.
Not keen on 'bap' for bread.
Or saying 'bet' to mean OK.
And 'sick' when referring to something great is also cringe. I'm borderline on the word cringe. 😂

Agree with nosh and leccy.

Edit: Adding 'sound' in replacement of good.

I use gosh! But it's a hangover from my customer service days. Easier to say gosh than swear.

'The back of 10' I still have no idea if that means 9.59 or 10.59 or something else. Just say the time!!!
Not even sure that is slang as it is longer than saying the time!

I am guilty of saying 'gosh really' to my (little) children when they say something nonsensical and are looking for a big response.

WildFlowerBees · 08/05/2024 20:34

'Makes my teeth itch' it's such a stupid thing to say.

Bubs, bubba and little one. Hubs, hubby. People who say 'like' between every word. I don't know why but I absolutely hate the word meal.

Deipara · 08/05/2024 20:37

Sick!
That's sick bruv!
😫

Picky tea. Only ever read it on here but urgh.

I had to turn the radio off yesterday as there was a show called. Jane McDonald's Picky Tea

Also hate brew, cuppa, cuppa. And of course hubby Envy

LaVidaEsUnaBuenaAventura · 08/05/2024 20:50

Oh god @Februaryfeels whenever my ILs mention putting the kettle on they all sit around going 'a cuppa teaaaa' in a weird faux cockney accent before any of them goes to the fucking kitchen.

I mean. Wut. It makes me want to run away 😆

LondonFox · 08/05/2024 20:53

Bruv
Fam
Good stuff

Unless you are selling drugs all sound idiotic.
