Trying to make cake toppers for my dd Snow White birthday cake. If it was just at my home I wouldn’t care how bad they are but we’re going to a restaurant with a load of friends and I am a bit self conscious about this cake and everyone else seeing it and secretly laughing at it.

i feel like these are horrendous and thinking of just giving up and going Tesco ha! Pls tell me the truth should I give up while I’m ahead?!

They're great, a tad sinister but wonderful nonetheless.
I'm good at eating the cake but not making one and absolutely not making characters.

Search birthday cake fails on Google, that will make you feel like top dog, seriously.

TriceratopsRocks · 30/04/2024 12:38

Definitely use them. I've always had a go at whatever theme my kids asked for, to mixed results, but I'd say yours are about the standard I would manage. My eldest are in their 20s now, and only last month one asked for photos of some of his childhood cakes to show friends. They still remembered and loved them. I'm sure yours will feel the same - they'll be more special because they were made by mum.

Funnywonder · 30/04/2024 12:44

I think they look fabulously homemade. I honestly mean that in a good way. They are bespoke just for your daughter and made with love. And I definitely think, with a bit of practice, there is some real talent there.

I think they're great!

Homemade cakes are not supposed to be perfect. They're supposed to show that you love your kid and want to make their cake yourself and you tried to make a cake they'd love instead of buying a Tesco cake.

Please use them!

Ophy83 · 30/04/2024 13:05

They are recognisably Dopey and Grumpy. My family would be very impressed!

thecatwiththesilveryfur · 30/04/2024 13:05

Oh OP, I think they're wonderful! Honestly, your daughter will love them, and how amazing that you've put all that effort in.

(Confession of bias: I am about to present a five year old with the worst Spiderman cake ever made this evening. He won't care - it's cake!)

Bakedbeansandtoast · 30/04/2024 13:07

I think they're absolutely fab! Would be delighted if I had made them!

AgentProvocateur · 30/04/2024 13:18

I think they look great. I’m in absolute awe of people who can do things like this.

kitsuneghost · 30/04/2024 13:20

Love them. They are great

AhBiscuits · 30/04/2024 13:20

I think they are perfect. There's nothing wrong with a home made cake looking home made. I made a wonky pirate ship for DS that was held together with buttercream and prayers 😄He thought it was amazing.

DappledThings · 30/04/2024 13:21

I think they're brilliant. Anyone who laughs at them is an absolute knob

Libertysparkle · 30/04/2024 13:24

Dopey did make me laugh, but as a non professional cake maker I know how hard it is to make fondant people (and how long it can take). So you have done really well.
I think your child will love it. They don't care. Just shows how much you love them.

Summerpussy · 30/04/2024 13:32

That's brilliant,farfar better than anything I could do x

catwithflowers · 30/04/2024 13:38

FakeMiddleton · 30/04/2024 11:08

@Cherrymuffiny - I honestly thought your photo was the reference image and I'd scroll further and see your attempt. They're damn good. Honestly.

Moreover, if my mum had made cake toppers for me, my adult heart now would be bursting. Please keep them.

This exactly! They look fabulous! Well done.

LoveSandbanks · 30/04/2024 13:39

You MADE those? I think they’re fab. They have character which, frankly, is important. If family laugh at them family are the problem!

wherearemywellingtons · 30/04/2024 13:55

They’re so good! I’d be thrilled if I made them and tell everyone!

ODFOx · 30/04/2024 14:06

They look home made but the characters are clearly recognisable. A home made cake is almost always better. Just crack on, your DD will love it!

penjil · 30/04/2024 14:07

The one with the red jacket....his pupils need to be smaller.

Apart from that, they look good!!

Dartmoorcheffy · 30/04/2024 14:13

I think they are fantastic. I could never manage anything that good.

Shan5474 · 30/04/2024 14:14

To be honest I think they look great! They do look “homemade” but they are better than most people could do! My mum used to decorate my sister and I’s cakes when we were kids and I loved them ☺️ I still have the book she used to get the recipes from ☺️. It’s the effort that counts! And I bet those dwarves took a long time (lots of effort). Only thing I would say is that grumpy does look very angry because of the angle of his eyes/eyebrows. I would make Snow White and then see how you feel about her, no point giving up before the main character!

lalalaheyhey111 · 30/04/2024 14:18

I think they look great as well

Gcsunnyside23 · 30/04/2024 14:19

They are brilliant. The whole point of homemade is the effort you went to not how perfect they turn out. If they laugh behind your back I wouldnt worry, it's their choice to be horrible. Just laugh it off and tell them you don't care you just like trying to do something nice for your kids

shams05 · 30/04/2024 14:22

You can get snow white cake toppers from eBay and Etsy. Make the cake then top it with the ready toppers once you've iced it.
Those are really good , though I can't imagine having the patience to make them myself!

lovemycbf · 30/04/2024 14:26

I think they look great although they do make me chuckle as they are slightly comical
It's a difficult decision but personally I'd go and buy a cake topper

NailedTheCake · 30/04/2024 14:27

I love them @Cherrymuffiny! Please please could you post a pic of them, and Snow White, when they're finished?

I'll do you a deal, if you do I will upload a "nailed it" Yule Log photo which, believe me is worth seeing Grin I'm really fed up and can't even raise a smile atm but when I searched my phone just now to see if I still had the Yule Log photo, it actually made me laugh.
