Trying to make cake toppers for my dd Snow White birthday cake. If it was just at my home I wouldn’t care how bad they are but we’re going to a restaurant with a load of friends and I am a bit self conscious about this cake and everyone else seeing it and secretly laughing at it.

i feel like these are horrendous and thinking of just giving up and going Tesco ha! Pls tell me the truth should I give up while I’m ahead?!

I think they're fab honestly! I would be so so proud of them. I literally don't see how you could even improve on them? They have so much character and they're fascinating to look at. Keep going!

crumblingschools · 30/04/2024 10:55

If your DD will love them (and I am sure she will) then that is what counts. If your friends laugh or sneer, not sure they would be people I would want to be friends with.

DS would ask for requests for his birthday cake theme and I would do my best and he loved them and loved the fact that I (and sometimes DH) made the decorations. I look back at the photos of them fondly (but I would have wanted my money back if a professional cake decorator had made them!)

Cherrymuffiny · 30/04/2024 11:05

@ZipZapZoom dopeys traumatic shit, so funny. I honestly am unhappy with them. Looks like a mixed bag on who thinks they’re 1/10 vs 5/10 :-) appreciate all the responses though

Clearly making cakes is not my calling 😂 my family & friends will first laugh behind my back and then probably about 3 years later the stories of how they laughed at my shit cake will all spill out. Reasonable if the cake is that bad …

@Cherrymuffiny - I honestly thought your photo was the reference image and I'd scroll further and see your attempt. They're damn good. Honestly.

Moreover, if my mum had made cake toppers for me, my adult heart now would be bursting. Please keep them.

ZipZapZoom · 30/04/2024 11:09

I'm glad my comments gave you a laugh and you took it in the light-hearted manner it was intended.

Honestly who cares if people laugh, your child will just love the fact you made the effort and those memories make the best anecdotes later on. Why have a Dopey who looks perfect when you can have that Dopey. 😅

tiredandabitfat · 30/04/2024 11:09

No! They're great! She'll love them. I'd have been delighted if my mum did that for my birthday when I was young.

Even if they were shit, who cares?

Your daughter will love it, have a great time

marzipanlover81 · 30/04/2024 10:34

yes im afraid

decent attempt though

Ffs 🙄

Candleabra · 30/04/2024 11:10

I think they look great. Honestly, I don’t know when the tide turned and people expected home baking to look like a professional cake.
Id be very proud of those and impressed if someone else did them. If you know people who would laugh at your efforts then they’re not nice people…

kikisparks · 30/04/2024 11:10

I’d be really happy with myself if I could make those! The main thing is I’m sure your DD will love it.

DaftFlerken · 30/04/2024 11:12

I think they look brilliant & it shows way more care than just shop bought

WinchSparkle80 · 30/04/2024 11:12

way better than I could do, I would be secretly impressed if my friends could pull them off… and then tell them how impressed I was!

If you genuinely think friends might laugh at you behind your back about these…. please sack them off, they aren’t worth your headspace.

Bumblebeeinatree · 30/04/2024 11:13

I think they look really good and I'm sure your DD will love them. I used to make all my DDs themed birthday cakes, they may not have been perfect, but they are memories you wouldn't have if they had been bought. There was a particularly wonky Thomas the tank engine I remember...

sassyduck · 30/04/2024 11:13

They are pretty good!! Don't give up. Much more character than buying a cake from Tesco. Keep going....

CrushingOnRubies · 30/04/2024 11:14

They look great.

Before I even read the post I saw the picture and I knew exactly who they were.

CormorantStrikesBack · 30/04/2024 11:15

They are great. It’s this sort of thing which kids remember. That parents tried and put in the effort. She’ll appreciate it even if not now when she’s older. My mum always home made my birthday cakes and I remember them all.

hydrangeadangea · 30/04/2024 11:15

I love them!

PinkLemonade3 · 30/04/2024 11:16

I think they look great and better than most people could do. You’re not a professional baker, you’re someone making a cake for their child. Think about what you want her to learn from you.

LittleGreenDuck · 30/04/2024 11:16

OP, please can you come back and show us the full set when you've finished? Honestly, I think they're fantastic and I'd love to see the other five.

Words · 30/04/2024 11:19

I had never heard of a cake topper before. I think they look great.

Any attempt of mine would probably look like Morph Grin

BodyKeepingScore · 30/04/2024 11:19

I think they're wonderful! You've put so much effort in and she'll be thrilled :)

BodyKeepingScore · 30/04/2024 11:20

marzipanlover81 · 30/04/2024 10:35

but not very nice family if “secretly laughing” about to

when is party? could you get a cake made?

Her family would have to be pretty horrible to be "secretly laughing" at a mother's efforts to do something nice and thoughtful for her child's birthday.

Ooh yes please do show us the finished product! I bet it will look fabulous!

Cornflowers35 · 30/04/2024 11:20

I think they look fab @Cherrymuffiny .

I 100% could not do anything have as good.

I'm sure your DC will love them.

floppybit · 30/04/2024 11:20

I think they are brilliant!! Well done!!

wompwomp · 30/04/2024 11:21

They are somehow really very good and a bit 🫣 at the same time.
Really amazing considering it's not what you do. Not many people could do anything close to this good.
But also kind of bad 😂
