A Get Things Done thread

Needanewjobsoon · 29/04/2024 09:44

I am a chronic procrastinator and feeling lonely today so all I want to do is hide in bed and play on my phone.

I have a Ton of sorting to do (mainly resources for work) and my house is awful.

I was just thinking instead of hiding in bed feeling lonely and overwhelmed I'd start a thread in case anyone else fancied company today while Getting Things Done.

I'm going to Go Downstairs at 10.10 and make a cup of tea and Get Started.

(I know some people probably don't find life so overwhelming but I currently am!)

OK I'm probably talking to myself but I'm taking the rubbish out, about to make a cup of tea and start my first pile.

Hello to anyone who fancies company while they Get Things Done.

Hello! I'll join your thread. I have a pile of things in my house that need putting away and i need to hoover. After i finish my coffee...

frozendaisy · 29/04/2024 10:36

I am digging up part of the garden to put in another part of the garden.

I tell myself it's natural gym resistance exercise which helps.

As does coffee.

You always feel better being proactive than wasting a decent day on the phone. Think of the end result.

Needanewjobsoon · 29/04/2024 11:09

Yay company!

So I said I'd do 30mins and stop but have actually pottered a bit and done an hour.

I have yet to start the Piles Of Doom but first thing on my list was making the table clear to do so (!) and I've managed to empty bins, sort and put laundry on and do a few other bits of putting away (honestly our house is a state. I need a few days on the house AND a few days sorting work but today is A Start.)

I've made the cup of tea I was going make and having a 10min break then going to start on one of The Piles. I think it's overwhelming cos there's just so much and it's hard to start and make order as there's not much space so it's a bit like Teris but it will feel so good when done :)

Loving the company so will check in again around 12.30ish.

How are people getting on?

I've moved the washing along so onto next load and wiped down some of the white goods. Had lunch etc

Ive got 2 hours before pick up and getting overwhelmed as need to sort my resources piles (literally so much to go through) and clean the kitchen and find homes for lots of little bits.

But this leads to me not getting started so need to accept it won't all get done 😔.

I'm sat back at the piles to sort. And going to set an alarm for an hour so I can clear up the kitchen a bit then.

OP posts:
Needanewjobsoon · 29/04/2024 14:39

So got another "pile" done and 3 more to go.

I've unloaded the dryer and movednext load on.

Kitchen needs another wipe.

I need to have a shower but have lost the energy /got a headache now. 🙁.

I so want to get finished but where so many things are in process the kitchen (where I'm also working) currently looks awful 😭

Well done on what you’ve done! Don’t focus on what you haven’t done. You’ve done lots!

I am a huge procrastinator too. And have a very short attention span. I set my self half hour segments too sometimes and like you sometimes do more. And sometimes less!

I am about to do another half an hour sorting my bedroom and wardrobe. It’s been a big job. Walk-in wardrobe is pretty much done. Bedroom is a mess. But I have some charity shop piles for tomorrow sorted and am feeling there is light at the end of this particular tunnel!

Peridot1 · 29/04/2024 14:48

There is a lovely supportive thread about just getting one thing done that I’m on. Come join us if you like. It’s called Daily Project Round 5. We tend to waffle a bit but you don’t have to. You can just post a list of things you want to do. Even if that list only has one thing on it!

Anothe · 29/04/2024 14:49

Can I join too. Just saw my to do list says things like clean car..dated in January 😳

Spinlet · 29/04/2024 14:53

Hi, joining in if I may. I have chronic fatigue so baby steps. I'm having a good day, I've wiped down the kitchen and ordered the food shop for tomorrow.

Next on the list is sit down for 30 mins, then 10 mins tidying in the living room and run the hoover over.

Needanewjobsoon · 29/04/2024 14:55

Ooh peridot yes will join that thankyou.

I really only have mon/tue either off or wfh but those days I struggle to get going

Good luck spin let and anothe

I did a fair amount of soil shifting

Put washing online first thing this morning the second load to hang in house has just finished

Just sorting recycling for the week

Needanewjobsoon · 30/04/2024 15:03

Yay well done frozen.

I did so well yesterday in the end.

Im really struggling today. Even if I class it as a "crash" day I'm not sure what to do with myself. All I seem to want to do is eat. And faff. I could do with a movie or something I think.

I'm failing to get started on anything productive and getting All The Thoughts around being rubbish which doesn't help. Grrr. Pick kids up later today so I really am literally wasting a whole day (been in bed..)

Spinlet · 30/04/2024 23:50

well done with the soil @frozendaisy and for all you achieved on Monday @Needanewjobsoon . Hope you have a smooth run at work this week.

I did ok today, I did a couple of errands out and about. Tomorrow I'm wiping down glass doors and mirrors, and doing 2 bits of paperwork I've been putting off.

frozendaisy · 01/05/2024 14:55

Planted up a vegetable bed today, the pea and bean one, I think the soil has warmed up enough.

More soil shifting tomorrow.

Haven't touched the house but I don't care will do an hour or two listening to the news roundup on radio 4.

I find that really helps PM is on radio 4 5-6pm Mon-Fri it talks in depth about the day or yesterday's news. I find it reduces doomscrolling, but I don't care about celebrity or culture war type stuff. So I tidy kitchen and cook whilst catching up with current affairs at the same time.

My main stumbling block is putting clean dry clothes away. I can get them clean dry, away is master boss level in my mind.

Castlerigg · 19/05/2024 10:47

Hope no one minds me jumping in, haven't RTFT but I'm tidying my kitchen today, and if I don't tell anyone I won't get on with it. What's everyone else up to today?

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 19/05/2024 11:35

@Castlerigg

I’ve spent the last two hours tidying the dining room and kitchen, folding washing, and taking things to the garage that belong in the garage.
I haven’t even started on the actual cleaning yet! My house has been a tip for a long time as I’ve been ill.
Have you managed to get anything done?

Joyfulincolour · 19/05/2024 12:41

Well done @Castlerigg for posting. This thread is just what I'm looking for today!
I'm going to make a sandwich for lunch & eat it in the garden, then I've got a PowerPoint presentation to write for a job interview. I've got all the info for it, just procrastinating about sitting down to write it! I think the reason I'm struggling is because it feels like work & I don't want to work on this lovely, sunny day!

Needanewjobsoon · 19/05/2024 12:50

Oooh well done everyone!

I've found a new interest in my garden so was up early listening to birds and gave painted the table and chairs.

But that oomph of enthusiasm has stopped and I sat on the sofa scrolling.

Realistically my house is a mess. But the garden is fun...

GetShitDoneToday · 19/05/2024 12:52

Joining in too.
I need to sort so much stuff.
I need a list I think.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 19/05/2024 15:04

I’ve just put a big tray of vegetables in the oven to roast, so at least I have a healthy meal sorted. Next I need to;
Hang a load of washing on the line
Do bins and recycling
Tidy the kitchen
Make the bed

SmokeWithoutFire · 19/05/2024 15:15

I needed to see this thread this morning I think! I have not achieved a lot. Currently having a cup of tea in the shade admiring the bit of garden I mowed last weekend. Grin

I reeaallly need to hoover the house today. Blush

Castlerigg · 19/05/2024 23:12

Well, I got the kitchen a bit tidier, but there's still a bit left to do. However, I did pay my car tax, complete a stupid compulsory government survey thing, and change the kids' beds.

Well done everyone, whatever you've managed to get done today, even if it's not as much as you'd hoped.

Rummikub · 19/05/2024 23:39

I wish I’d seen this earlier too.

im awful at getting things done.

you are all being very productive!

Castlerigg · 19/05/2024 23:44

@Rummikub Maybe you could line up a couple of jobs for tomorrow? I'll be at work but I'll put away a few more things in the kitchen before I go, and put a wash on.
