‘Uni’ (vs university not sure why I find this annoying)
hollibobs

the wife
bellyache
wine o’clock
’on socials’

Ooh, I hate “uni”, too. I thought I was alone.

@Flyhigher . Yes of course I have. I find the expression deeply unpleasant Even when I repeat my mother/father/brother/friend etc died, I found people were still reluctant to use the term.

Each to their own, I suppose.

Guess everyone is different.
I really couldn't say it at the time. Hated it. Feels so cold and final.
Passed feels gentle and a bit spiritual.

Tinks15 · 30/04/2024 22:36

Hubby/hubs
bruv
baby girl
baby boy
babe
chick

ABitMadYeah · 30/04/2024 22:36

I overheard a young couple talking in a cafe earlier today and she said to him ‘FYI, my dad is coming for dinner on Saturday’.

Using ‘FYI’ in a face-to-face conversation - NO!

Thegoodbadandugly · 30/04/2024 22:52

SleepingisanArt · 28/04/2024 16:50

Ick - nobody over the age of 5 should use it.

I agree with you it sounds so childish.

Misorchid · 01/05/2024 02:23

Do your research

pambeesleyhalpert · 01/05/2024 02:43

Unalived themselves

gindreams · 01/05/2024 04:07

Jammies for pyjamas it makes me feel almost unwell

Scorchio84 · 01/05/2024 04:20

muddyford · 28/04/2024 17:05

Passed instead of died. Passed what? Large turd? Driving test? Signpost?

Making memories. Just cringe. And more cringe.

Reaching out. What's wrong with contacting?

Me too, I hate euphemisms for death (exception recently with Bluey) I just think it's so confusing, no one is sayimg give all the gory details but I'd rather be as honest as possible with a child

Scorchio84 · 01/05/2024 04:27

gimmegimmegimmeagin · 29/04/2024 13:23

Yous - as in "what are yous up to today". There is no such word😣

I know you're right but it's a massive part of the vernacular over here, nearly as a point to denote the difference between Dubs & boggers (ye)

Onthebeachinmymind · 01/05/2024 05:28

Reaching out (simultaneously patronising and desperate)

any writing in a house that tells me what something is or what to do in a room (eg ‘eat’, ‘bath’, ‘soak’)
Or that starts with a phrase like ‘in this family we… ‘dance like no one is watching’ etc

Gin/ Prosecco o’clock

muddyford · 01/05/2024 06:34

'Passed away' is better but you rarely hear that. I worked in a hospice and some deaths are a 'passing', but not everyone goes like that. It's more abrupt or more of a struggle. And where children are concerned you can't afford to confuse them, as you said.

CelesteCunningham · 01/05/2024 08:36

pambeesleyhalpert · 01/05/2024 02:43

Unalived themselves

Used to get around censoring on some social media platforms that don't allow mentions of death and in particular suicide. It's not done to be twee or funny or euphemistic.

scousemouse92 · 01/05/2024 09:40

Hope this finds you well

maudelovesharold · 01/05/2024 09:44

A ‘cheeky’ whatever - Prosecco, usually.

pambeesleyhalpert · 01/05/2024 13:57

@CelesteCunningham oh I didn't know that! Thanks!

SauronsArsehole · 01/05/2024 13:58

‘For cheap’

OssieShowman · 01/05/2024 14:07

Give it up for …. Introducing a guest, then applause.
