Take That or East 17?

Which one were you? Personally I was East 17. I was born in 1984 so too young for the whole teenage lust thing with TT.

I remember my neighbour downstairs who was around 5 years older than me writing Take That all over a notebook with lovehearts everywhere and thinking...

Erm... take What?! 😄

(I was obsessed with MJ and had either Bad or Dangerous in my walkman 247 so had no huge interest in bands anyway!)

Neither. I was Carter USM, PWEI, Neds etc

ShillyShallySherbet · 27/04/2024 06:59

East 17. I am a few years older than you but I really did not get all the fuss over Take That at the time, now I look back and really like their songs but at the time I found them a bit cringe and thought East 17 were much cooler.

I started university in 1984. 😂
East 17 largely passed me by apart from Stay Another Day which I bloody love.
Take That as whippersnappers - nah.
Take That the reboot without Robbie. Line them up and I'll have them all. 😂

East 17 for me. I remember going along to see Take That at the Radio one road show and not really getting the hype.

Willmafrockfit · 27/04/2024 07:01

cant stand take that
dont really know east 17,

sorry
i remember ds child minder being upset that robbie had left, but i was ignorant of it all

CharityShopFinds · 27/04/2024 07:01

What happened to Boyzone?

MrWarmth · 27/04/2024 07:02

Stay another day was more iconic to me as a kid, I was born in 1984. Take That songs don't stick in my mind in the same way. Robbie Williams' "angels" was another iconic song

WillimNot · 27/04/2024 07:03

1982 and I loved both!

What happened to Boyzone?

Boyzone made me cringe. I remember even very young rolling my eyes and thinking "oh fuck off" whenever I flipped a magazine page and saw them featured!

E17, saw them 3times but did really like Robbie. Bit older than you

AprilDecember · 27/04/2024 07:06

The thinkers went for PJ and Duncan.

Hoglet70 · 27/04/2024 07:06

I didn't take much notice of Take That until the Pray video!!!

The only East 17 song I can think of is the Christmas one - Stay Another Day?

Tiddlywinkly · 27/04/2024 07:10

I was born in 1983. I didn't understand the love for Take That, but I agree their songs, in retrospect, are good. I saw Mark in club in 2002. Petite guy.

I thought East 17 was cooler, but I didn't fancy any of them. Brian tried it on with my friend at a uni show in about 2002-3. That was a no from her!

toycat · 27/04/2024 07:10

East 17! Yes again born 85, so slightly too young to be arsed about TT. I remember watching all the teenage girls crying on the news when they broke up and being bemused

CeeJay81 · 27/04/2024 07:13

I was TT(born 1981), so right from Take That and party, I was also was Boyzone after that. Was a real teeny bopper in my youth lol I don't like TT now though, fancied the pants off Gary Barlow back then but now he is just a tax avoiding Tory.

Thereshegoesagain · 27/04/2024 07:13

I was a massive indie chick then, but also loved both (but only saw Take That live (twice))

Toddlerteaplease · 27/04/2024 07:16

Take that! We hated E17!!

ShiftySquirrel · 27/04/2024 07:17

I'm a year or so older, neither for me either.
My best friends at primary and secondary loved Take That and Boyzone, but I wasn't keen on ballads and preferred Blur and Oasis. On my wall I had Damon, Peter Andre and 911!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/04/2024 07:17

Gary Barlow was my favourite.

Toooldtoworry · 27/04/2024 07:17

E17 over TT. I never understood the hysteria over TT, buy then I've never understood the hysteria over any band or thespian.

Toooldtoworry · 27/04/2024 07:18

*but

kjv1234 · 27/04/2024 07:18

TT all the way. I'm off to see them tonight!

ImaMumtoaboy · 27/04/2024 07:22

Born 1977.
E17 all the way. It's funny I was never a take that fan but I'm a huge Robbie Williams fan now.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 27/04/2024 07:28

Indie here too - loved Blur

Couldn’t stand Take That and East 17 were barely on my radar, though I do appreciate TT now.

Piscesmumma1978 · 27/04/2024 07:30

East 17! I was born in 1982. I still have Smash Hits magazines with them in.
