Take That or East 17?

Which one were you? Personally I was East 17. I was born in 1984 so too young for the whole teenage lust thing with TT.

I remember my neighbour downstairs who was around 5 years older than me writing Take That all over a notebook with lovehearts everywhere and thinking...

Erm... take What?! 😄

(I was obsessed with MJ and had either Bad or Dangerous in my walkman 247 so had no huge interest in bands anyway!)

Honestly? I was Pulp, Terrorvision and Nirvana. I was 🙄 at the girls who were upset about Robbie leaving Take That

MuggedByReality · 27/04/2024 20:44

Neither. Boy bands were never my thing, (I was more into Indie bands & classic rock) but I acknowledge that Gary Barlow is a talented songwriter & songs like Back for Good, Never Forget & Patience have stood the test of time.

Extreme for me. Was totally obsessed.

Havingawobbley · 27/04/2024 20:58

I was born in 1982 and was Take That.

The rough, naughty girls always liked E17 🤣

LoreleiG · 27/04/2024 21:12

My friends and I liked indie music and would not have openly admitted to liking either TT or E17 but secretly did, especially Take That. I am seeing TT this year.

The thinkers went for PJ and Duncan.

😂

Take that. I was scared of east 17. Looked like gang members

bradpittsbathwater · 27/04/2024 23:50

Born in 84 too and definitely east 17!

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/04/2024 00:09

I was a teen in the 80s. The important question was Spandau Ballet or Duran Duran?
(It was Duran Duran of course).

Shut the front door! Spill

Ha! He’s very small. Makes up for it in the, ahem, important department. He’s very very VERY rough! I met him when he was filming for the Pepsi Chart Show in the 90’s and he stood next to me (I was serving drinks) when Robbie Williams was being interviewed. He made some comment like, he’s such a dick, so I said: I LOVE Robbie! He’s gorgeous. He turned to me, handed me his number and told me he’d convince me that he was better! Hahaha!
He had this gorgeous flat in Buckhurst Hill and drive this enormous Jeep, no idea how because he’s very small. I met his baby daughter when she was only little, and I watched backstage when E17 performed in GAY in London.
We weren’t together long, he lost interest in me (I’m not famous or a model) and he scared me a bit.. we are really from different worlds. I bumped into him from time to time around London, once in Camden and he gave me a hug and said hi. Not sure he’d recognise me today, although if you asked him about “that Jewish bird from Leeds” then he’d know who I was!
I’ve got a ton of stories about him, and a few other 90’s celebs… I’ll save those for another time ;)

1982 born, I liked E17, but loved (and still do) Take That, can't wait to go and see them (again, twice) next month!

artfuldodgerjack · 03/05/2024 09:20

Take That!!! I knew East 17 (well one in particular as my parents were friends with their parents) and wasn't at all impressed with them.

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 27/04/2024 06:57

Neither. I was Carter USM, PWEI, Neds etc

Me too! And the Wonder Stuff, Stone Roses, goth, 80s electronic and rave. I was 16 in 1990 and a complete snob about boy bands.

CornedBeef451 · 03/05/2024 10:21

For me it was NKOTB. I did see E17 in Wolverhampton because my friend's younger sister wanted to go.

ClipClopperDontStopper · 03/05/2024 10:22

The clips of Take That on their recent tour have me howling. People saying they look like The Wiggles.

I was far too cool for either Take That or E17. I was an indie girl. But I remember two of my friends on opposing boy band sides squaring up to one another. Grin

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 10:28

E17 saw them a couple of times. Never liked TT even now!!
