Take That or East 17?

Which one were you? Personally I was East 17. I was born in 1984 so too young for the whole teenage lust thing with TT.

I remember my neighbour downstairs who was around 5 years older than me writing Take That all over a notebook with lovehearts everywhere and thinking...

Erm... take What?! 😄

(I was obsessed with MJ and had either Bad or Dangerous in my walkman 247 so had no huge interest in bands anyway!)

Both! But really only E17 as I am friends with one of them.

Atomickittyxx · 27/04/2024 07:34

Definitely E17 for me couldn't stand take that still cant! Robbie Williams makes me cringe and if I had the chance to slap Gary Barlow you can bet I'd take it 🤣🤣, loved blur!!

ManchesterBeatrice · 27/04/2024 07:35

Early 1980s.

Couldn't be arsed with either.

You need to spill which one and how!

hby9628 · 27/04/2024 07:43

Take that over E17 if I had to choose but I actually can't stand TT now

Oasis all the way. Going to see Liam in June and I can't bloody wait.

Fizbosshoes · 27/04/2024 08:09

TT all day long but I did like East 17.
I also went to the concert yday @kjv1234

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 27/04/2024 06:57

Neither. I was Carter USM, PWEI, Neds etc

To answer the OP my hometown heroes East 17 but this jumped out at me as a great idea for a thread for the bands that got lost in the grunge/britpop explosion. Saw Carter at the Pink Toothbrush in my fake tan and band t shirt!

Sarah2891 · 27/04/2024 10:12

Didn't like either. I preferred the Backstreet Boys!!

TheNortherner · 27/04/2024 10:12

TT all the way. I'm from the north, was a teen (same age as Robbie) when they hit the scene and preferred their music and attitudes.

burnoutbabe · 27/04/2024 10:20

Early 70s. At school it was Duran v spandau.

I loved house of Love and deep.

But also remember dancing at university to relight my fire and something Barry manolis inspired.

So in fact both. I prefer backstreet boys now and saw in concert 10 years ago (with all saints)

burnoutbabe · 27/04/2024 10:21

I do find it amusing that Howard Donald sang the final song at the king's coronation concert.

Can you imagine a 19 year old Howard ever imagining that? (A young Gary Barlow probably would be able to be that ambitious!)

100% Loved Oasis. Saw them at the Rose Bowl in Milton Keynes in my youth and they were amazing.

JDswife · 27/04/2024 11:57

I went out with Brian Harvey for a bit…..🤐

RabbitsRock · 27/04/2024 11:59

I didn’t really go for either back then but have loved Take That in their “ mature” years. Saw them in 2019 with Rick Astley & going again in June. This time they’re supported by Olly Murs.

Plump82 · 27/04/2024 12:01

That That all the way. Born 1982 and was at their first proper tours when I was really young with my poor mum!! Roll on next Friday when I see them again!!

The Osmonds or Jackson 5 would be my era.
😂😂😂

Anyway... Take That, obviously.

xsquared · 27/04/2024 18:26

Neither at the time, but TT were better looking and more talented than E17 in my opinion. I don't like rap and the dance style of E17 either so it would be TT if I had to choose.

OrangeLemonLime24 · 27/04/2024 18:28

East 17 all the way - then.
Take That all the way now!

hby9628 · 27/04/2024 20:32

@Toooldtoworry I've seen them a couple of times. I think the last time was Heaton Park for my 30th birthday. I'm now 45!
I'm just so excited that this is a definitely maybe tour....the soundtrack to being 16......sigh

hby9628 · 27/04/2024 20:33

@RabbitsRock I bet Olly Murs will be amazing. I'm tempted to get tickets for their tour to see him.

21ZIGGY · 27/04/2024 20:34

The seriousness with which i take this thread is off the charts.

Take That all the way

Zero competition

For all time

Gladneighboursisback · 27/04/2024 20:38

1980 East 17

Searchingforthelight · 27/04/2024 20:41

TT
But credit to E17 for cleaning up well for that Stay another day video

madnessitellyou · 27/04/2024 20:42

East 17 here, but mostly because everyone else at school was fawning over Take That and I liked being contrary.

However, Take That's actual songs were in a different league to East 17's as I've concluded now.
