How many of you have tried coke?

Lilllypad11 · 24/04/2024 22:47

I’ve never ever been into drugs. I won’t touch them. Mainly bc I have anxiety and ocd. But I’ve been out with my mates who love to do coke when we’re out, and I always say no, but last time I was genuinely tempted to just try a little bit.

If you’ve tried it what’s your experience. Worth it or nah?

No and saw what it can do, supporting those whose lives it had ruined. Yes, you'll always hear from those that say it does no harm, maybe not to them, but to far too many others it does! https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/cocaine-use-and-its-effects

Saying this nicely. You need to work on why you need to get paralytic drunk and put yourself in the wrong mindset to be around drugs.
Don't do Coke and... Get new friends

makeanddo · 25/04/2024 09:48

No because drugs scare me, a lot. I find watching anything about drugs very upsetting, I found the baby reindeer episode with drugs disturbing. I also think I have an addictive personality so am convinced if I did it, even once, I'd be addicted. I can't take co-codemol as it makes me feel spaced out and sick.

HumanBurrito · 25/04/2024 09:54

Given the disproportionate impact of the gang warfare, county lines etc on young Black men I would say partaking in the coke trade is actively racist.

SmileyClare · 25/04/2024 10:07

Are you taking medication for your ADHD?

Interestingly, cocaine affects people with ADHD differently.

It mimics the effects of ADHD medication (most prescribed contain stimulants) so instead of feeling the typical high energy and euphoria most users love, a couple of lines for you would likely make you feel slightly calmer. Hardly a fantastic buzz!

ADHD affects your regulation of dopamine and you will not have the same effects from cocaine as your pals (unless you take it in very high doses)

People with ADHD are more likely to develop an addiction- this may be partly due to the way it medicates your ADHD symptoms- a form of self medication.

I don’t think you’d be on the same “level” (mood state) as your friends if you did a couple of lines so it’s likely to be disappointing. 😬

In my early 20s I was in NYC frequently and coke was everywhere - people didn't really get 'drunk'. I loved coke, but I found it hard to stop on nights out - I would frequently binge on it until 10am in the morning before then taking something to take me back down again so I could sleep. And then I would wake up and start the whole process again. I loved everything about it, the smell of the money rolled up, the metallic aftertaste. It made me feel confident and energised.
It was seen as glamorous - we were friends with famous musicians and artists, there was always an after hours with plenty to go around.
I never felt the urge to take it when I was back home or on my day-to-day life. Once I came out of that whole part of my life I probably took it a few times on a few random nights out but I never sought it out. Partly because it was really expensive in the UK.

Frauhubert · 25/04/2024 12:00

I prefer a double espresso to be honest. Very underwhelming drug. That’s why you need to keep having more and more as you are expecting for something amazing to happen but it doesn’t. I don’t get addicted to anything and coke is meh. I don’t see the appeal and the buzz is very short lived. My drug of choice back in the day was mdma, at least you really felt like you were tripping. Also impossible to do often as the comedown is too much whereas I see how people can get into a habit of doing coke frequently as the comedown is not awful.

Ifyoucouldreadmymindlove · 25/04/2024 12:03

Used to dabble a fair bit with a few things in my teens, twenties and freedom thirties. Wouldn’t bother now as any sort of come down is utterly grim and I have a grown up life. Also has an annoying quality of making you feel sober, so you drink more and then have a truly awful hangover.

YoghurtPotWashingMachine · 25/04/2024 12:43

I was surprised to see how many posters said the come down was awful. I never found it was. MDMA was more fun but took a couple of days to get over. As a pp said, cocaine seems to keep you sober so maybe too much drink was the culprit? Or it's been cut with speed or something.

In my experience, most people who try it will dabble and move on when they have responsibilities. A significant minority can't, particularly in certain industries, and it ruins their lives. Interestingly, I once read women and more susceptable to becoming addicted. Not sure if that is true.

CountingCrones · 25/04/2024 12:51

Have you seen what tedious, bombastic arseholes cokeheads are? However much fun it might feel, no one needs to be that much of a wanker.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 25/04/2024 12:58

Coke did nothing for me except irritate my nose....but then i only did the odd line so maybe didnt do enough.

TheNoonBell · 25/04/2024 13:06

Tried it many times with friends who won't socialise without it, usually just half a line to perk me up. I don't like the buzz it gives that much so it's not really my thing and I always get sinus issues for a week afterwards.

sparklealways · 25/04/2024 14:28

Done it a fair amount yes!

It's great at the time. Nothing better than the buzz of sneaking off to the loo with girlfriends to have a cheeky one and then all chatting shit for hours. I look back fondly on those times.

I however haven't done it in ages and I think my days of it are well & truly done.

I hate the thought of missing a whole night of sleep which it always leads to and can't stand the comedowns/ hangovers.

Now my pleasures are walks, my kids, scented candles and good food... oh and early nights!

katebushh · 25/04/2024 08:00

I'd be more concerned with what the 98% is it's cut with. You have literally no idea want you're stuffing up your nose. As pp have said, the first line might be great but after that you're chasing the impossible.

This absolutely. Why would you want to do that? God knows what's in it.
I will stick with a glass of champagne or two.

it looks like a great drug but I know I’ll prob be addicted. My mates all are.

A great drug? Really?

I reckon the drinking and staying up too late are big factors. Also, I think it gets worse the more frequently you're doing it because you're on it again before your brain has had sufficient time to recover from the previous hammering.

RomeoRivers · 25/04/2024 15:29

I used to be very anti drugs and like you all my friends did it, I was forever lecturing them 😂

I tried it once and it did nothing to me, my friends did the same stuff and said they felt it, but I’m quite a confident social person anyway. What really put me off though is it upset my stomach, thank God I was only with my cousins, definitely not a ‘cool vibe’!

LlynTegid · 25/04/2024 15:47

Never. When I was younger I wanted to be the odd one out as not having tried illegal drugs, nowadays because I don't want any more people killed from the illegal drug trade.

purplediscoblue · 25/04/2024 16:27

Alcohol is the best on its own . I am a happy drunk without drugs and have so much fun

I read a book called kilo ,that's from source to the edge of country before being trafficking.the manufacturing processes and ingredients before being cut again on destination is horrific that's before the murders, prostitution,in source countries....not the slightest glamorous.

Why would you want to take any drug that is managed by criminals? I work in pharmaceuticals, it costs millions to make a safe drug. We do tests to show our drugs are actually what we say they are and we do experiments to work out the shelflife.

We also do a whole raft of safety tests. We test for bactetia, endotoxin, viruses, DNA, protein contaminants, and residuals that we use in the process (so if we use chemical X at the beginning of the manufacturing process we have to show that it is removed by the end).

We have documentation from all the manufacturers of the raw materials and consumables that they are safe and don't contain TSEs, or leachables (you know how people get their knickers in a twist about hormone like chemicals in plastic baby cups, every piece of plastic we use is tested to show it doesn't do that). We then test all the chemicals ourselves as well to show they are safe before we use them.

When we make a drug it's in clean rooms that have regular environmental monitoring. Everyone wears plastic disposable clothes that don't produce fibres. Every single thing that is done is recorded and countersigned. Any changes to how we say we'll make the drug, however small, will be investigated (so for example if we used different plastic tubing we'd need to document why). At the end of making the drug our quality people review all the documents (this takes weeks because there are 10000s of pages). To make sure we are doing this properly we are regularly audited by teams of experts from national and international organisations before we can sell the drug.

Do you really think the Columbian drug cartels do all that? Or do you think that the coke you buy on the street has no guarantee to be what you think it is or to be free of contaminants that can kill you? It's absolutely stupid to take illegal drugs.

This was really interesting to read, so thanks! I enjoyed the detail you put into describing some of the process of putting a drug on the market.

BelindaOkra · 25/04/2024 19:35

It’s a bloody awful drug (loads of threads on here/know plenty of RL instances).

Lurkingandlearning · 25/04/2024 19:49

You probably don’t see them the day or two after when they are in a foul mood. My experience of coke users is when the fun stops they are grumpy at best, but often paranoid and hostile. Just don’t

Mouldyfoot · 25/04/2024 19:56

i wouldn’t do it, overrated.

plus many people don’t realise if you do coke and alcohol it creates Cocaethylene in your body, which is even more dangerous

Carsarelife · 25/04/2024 20:03

Never tried it but I dated someone for a year that was addicted to it and I never even knew. He used to keep sniffing and he used to say "oh this bloody cold I can't get rid of it" and I must have been so naive at the time. Anyway he was an asshole actually. Full of his own self importance. Only his opinion mattered etc. Never again.
