How many of you have tried coke?

I’ve never ever been into drugs. I won’t touch them. Mainly bc I have anxiety and ocd. But I’ve been out with my mates who love to do coke when we’re out, and I always say no, but last time I was genuinely tempted to just try a little bit.

If you’ve tried it what’s your experience. Worth it or nah?

It's a no from me. I did my fair share of E in the 90s out raving and that was fun, but found coke fuelled evenings out ( I only did this twice) extremely depressing and the comedown is AWFUL. It seems a lot of the people who enjoyed it can't seem to have a night out without it , even decades on in their 40s and 50s. So probably very addictive. An expensive way to behave like a twat for several hours and feel like utter shit the next day in my opinion.

Dontjudgeme101 · 25/04/2024 08:26

I have never tried drugs. It’s a mug’s game.

babyhiding · 25/04/2024 08:28

I've never tried it and appreciate this post is for those that have but honestly i know people who were on them for years and how horrible their lives have turned out. It's a very expensive habit, some go for the cheaper options which is even worse. Families broken, job and livelihoods lost. It's not worth it.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 25/04/2024 08:33

Used to try some now and again about 15 years ago. It was good fun but you grow out of it and it's crap now and expensive so I wouldn't bother.

Cosycover · 25/04/2024 08:33

My friends and I used to do it all the time in our 20s.

Not going to lie, some of them took it too far and have fucked their lives and are still doing it now late 30s. Staying awake all weekend and spending all their money (and money they don't have) on it.

It absolutely can destroy lives. But I enjoyed it at the time. And honestly didn't find it hard to stop. It just stopped naturally as we got older.

YoghurtPotWashingMachine · 25/04/2024 08:36

Someone up thread asked the op why she wanted to try it and what the appeal is. Isn't it obvious? Millions of people take it because it makes them feel good. It wouldn't be so popular otherwise.

I find it infantalising to suggest drugs can't be fun in the moment. It's getting people to recognise the harm and downsides it can cause that's important.

backinthebox · 25/04/2024 08:45

@JaninaDuszejko would seem most of the people on this thread have eyes that slide quickly over the seedy criminal source of their ‘fun’ drugs and are not interested in the bad things that happen from cartel executions in Columbia and Mexico to County Lines ruining drug runner kids’ lives in the U.K. It’s all just a bit of fun! 🙄 It’s not. There are no nice legal safe ways of getting drug from point of manufacture to customers’ pocket, whether you are talking about coke, LSD, ecstasy, weed, or any other illegally produced or sourced substance you want to stick in your body for a quick hit. Somewhere along the way someone will be exploited, intimidated, subjected to violence or even murdered in order for some stupid person to get their bit of fun. But it’s easier just to not mention that, isn’t it? Anyone who thinks taking drugs is a harmless bit of fun is a total dick imo.

CharlotteLightandDark · 25/04/2024 08:45

I’ve tried it quite a bit but it’s not my bag (ha!), definitely makes people tedious and self obsessed and I find it tends to be the more arrogant yet slightly insecure types that are drawn to it.

I’m definitely not anti drugs though, love me some weed and psychedelics 🍄✌🏼🌈🌟

Waitingfordoggo · 25/04/2024 08:49

I had a real taste for it in my early 20s. Needed to start taking more of it to get the same effects, and then started taking it more frequently to cushion the comedowns (which really are every bit as terrible as PPs have described- horrendous). Got to the point I was using it most days. Got into debt. Luckily saw the problem at that point and was able to extract myself.

I get addicted to things very easily and have been addicted to all sorts of things over the years. I have just always been dopamine-seeking my entire adult life. Also suspect I have ADHD but no diagnosis as yet.

You sound like a similar character to me OP- I’d stay well away from coke. Actually I think everyone should stay well away because of the human rights atrocities involved in the production and distribution of the drug.

MrsWhattery · 25/04/2024 08:58

It’s a bad idea, for all the reasons mentioned. It’s dangerous, it’s unregulated, it’s most definitely tainted with exploited labour and worse. It’s addictive and you really don’t want that.

I tried it once at a party in my 20s, when I was an idiot! So I can tell you what it was like for me. I felt buzzy and warm, like a tingly feeling, and slightly euphoric for about a minute. But then it affected the back of my throat and made it feel numb, and I couldn’t swallow, which made me feel really panicky and was horrible. Others reassured me and it passed, but I thought wtf I wouldn’t pay to feel like that.

and that was before the bloody horrendous hangover! I felt awful, like I had flu, for 2-3 days. It was totally not worth it - and being addicted to it must be awful. That’s when I was 100% sure never again!

Noseybookworm · 25/04/2024 09:04

Don't try it - people on coke are so BORING just talking shite and annoying! If you're ever tempted again, take a look at the photos of Daniella Westbrook. If that doesn't put you off, I don't know what will! Get yourself some new mates, these ones will drag you down. Sounds like you need to cut down on your drinking too 🤔

MrWarmth · 24/04/2024 22:54

Haven't had it in years. I prefer Pepsi Max.

😂

You beat me to it 😂

JusWunderin · 25/04/2024 09:09

Never tried it. There’s a word that MN really really doesn’t like when I think of anyone that is tempted to or has tried coke. Starts with C ends in V

Meadowfinch · 25/04/2024 09:10

Nope.

AmaryllisChorus · 25/04/2024 09:10

DrunkenElephant · 24/04/2024 22:57

It’s not a great drug.

it makes you a self centred cocky arsehole who loves the sound of their own voice.

Its expensive and addictive and can fuck with your mental health.

It really isn’t worth it.

This. All the people I knew on coke would make an entrance as if they were royalty and then monologue about how utterly brilliant they are. Insufferable arrogance.

Isit7yet · 25/04/2024 09:11

I tried it once, it didn't really do anything apart from sober me up. My friends were very confident and energetic etc I think I have undiagnosed ADHD, I read this can happen when taking stimulants

HumanBurrito · 25/04/2024 09:11

No because it is grossly unethical at every step of the supply chain.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/04/2024 09:14

No such thing as a 'great drug'
Why would you even socialise with people who take it?

Jennalong · 25/04/2024 09:16

Never taken any drug ( other than from Drs ) including a spliff, don't drink , don't smile etc .
Having said all that , I'm not super healthy or even particularly well so who knows if it has an impact to ongoing wellbeing .

I'm lost

ToxicChristmas · 25/04/2024 09:20

Never, and I was the odd one out. I didn't smoke either and EVERYONE smoked when I was a teenager in the 90s.
The campaign that really scared me was the one featuring the girl who had overdosed and died and her mum released the photo. The image has stuck with me. Her name was Rachel Whitear and she died in 2000 I think.

usernother · 25/04/2024 09:23

Never and never will. I think it's a bit skanky.

DogandMog · 25/04/2024 09:25

I think I have ADHD and coke never affected me the few times I’ve tried it, even when my friends were feeling star-jumping euphoria. Genuinely get “higher” from a nice mug of coffee. Apparently it’s an ADHD thing, many are also immune to other “-caine” type drugs, such as lidocaine in dental/local anaesthesia. I noticed on my dentist’s medical history form it asks about ADHD, and the penny dropped this might be why. I remember reading about a boy who was having a minor toe operation, kept asking for more numbing as it wasn’t working. The doctor didn’t believe him initially, but poked him on his toe and the boy described the exact location he felt it. Think it’s something to do with how potassium channels at the cell membrane work differently in people with ADHD.

MrsAnneBlythe · 25/04/2024 09:28

My best friend tried it once on a night out and had a stroke as a result. It has changed her life forever. Don't risk it.
