If you were given a box full of every item you've ever lost, what would you look for first?

Mine would be a stuffed toy that was lost in a house move when I was 9. (I don't need a psychologist to tell me it represented more than an actual toy!)

The necklace I wanted to wear for my wedding. I wore it every day but took it off in case I lost it before the wedding. I know exactly where I put I but it was never seen again 😔

SwedishEdith · 20/04/2024 10:55

A top I had from East about 30 years ago. It wouldn't fit anymore and I probably wouldn't like it now but it just disappeared one day.

Snooperdoop · 20/04/2024 10:56

My dad's letters. I still have two of the most hilarious and to be honest I'm not completely sure whether the others are 'lost' or I was just too stupid to realise I should keep them. So maybe they wouldn't be in the box anyway!

An earring that my grandmother gave me, lost in a hotel in Brussels many years ago

YeahComeOnThen · 20/04/2024 10:58

My mind

WingBingo · 20/04/2024 10:58

A pearl necklace. Was ages before I realised I didn’t have it.

Medschoolmum · 20/04/2024 10:59

My toy bunny that I left on a coach when I was around 5. Cried over it for years and years.

Giggorata · 20/04/2024 11:00

A dangly bit off a necklace that I scrounged off my rather unwilling mother decades ago.
I don't know how it came off, because I treated it as the precious item it was.🤷‍♀️

My Earbuds I put down (at home!) 3 weeks ago and they had just vanished 10 minutes later.

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 20/04/2024 11:01

A fork from the kids' cutlery set, we still have the knife and spoon, they hold so many memories.

WonderingWanda · 20/04/2024 11:01

My memory, I can't even remember any of the things I've lost.

Whatwouldnanado · 20/04/2024 11:02

My great grandmother’s wedding ring. It slipped off on the walk to work, I’d lost weight from gastric flu.
A little leather jewellery box with my grandmother’s watch in it. It’s vanished from my drawer.

JustJoinedRightNow · 20/04/2024 11:02

A pair of socks of my son's that he took off at the door on an overseas holiday and put inside his shoes - went back half an hour later and they were gone. Shoes were still there. His favourite monster truck ones.

That was just weird

judgementfail · 20/04/2024 11:02

A photo of me and my dad I took to work for a bloody 'guess the child' quiz never to be seen again

The gold cross I borrowed off my mum as a teenager, without her knowing, to hang on an earring like Bros. It fell off and it was a gift from her recently deceased Mum when she was young.

My favourite top I put in a 'keep'pile when moving half way around the world. When I unpacked it wasn't there. I still think about it and I need it!

peachgreen · 20/04/2024 11:03

My grandpa’s mechanical pencil. It was the one thing I took after he died. I still hang on to the little pots of leads in the forlorn hope that it’ll turn up, despite the fact that I’ve moved house (and countries!) several times since.

judgementfail · 20/04/2024 11:08

I wonder where these lost things end up. Maybe there's a lost things heaven of toy bunnies, photos, letters and jewellery.

BouleDeSuif · 20/04/2024 11:09

My grandma's watch. She gave it to me before she died in the early ish 80s and I had it for years and years but it got lost when I ended up homeless and had to leave a lot of things- it was in a box that got left behind and I didn't realise until too late.

Taytocrisps · 20/04/2024 11:09

A little cuddly tiger I got for DD when I was pregnant. We bought it in Spain, in some fancy department store. We had it when DD was a baby and possibly as a small toddler. At some point it disappeared and we never found it again. We never threw it, out but it hasn't turned up in the intervening years. I wonder if a visiting cousin took a fancy to it and made off with it?

Hellendegenerate · 20/04/2024 11:10

Several photos which disappeared over several 🏠 moves in the last 30 years. No mobiles when they were taken so real prints and my fault for not getting round to creating albums.

One ear ring from my favourite pair and it was very unusual so can't even buy another pair.

The most recent is a pair of specs.

Chickenwing2 · 20/04/2024 11:11

A sixpence my FIL gave me before he died, that I was to wear in my shoe for my wedding. I did, but lost it on my wedding day.

PollyannaWhittier · 20/04/2024 11:12

A bottle of temperature colour changing nail polish (sparkly deep purple -> cerise pink !) that my Auntie bought me when I was about 6. Mum was furious Grin and it mysteriously disappeared a few weeks later Hmm. She still swears blind she didn't throw it out, so hopefully it would be in the box.
Everyone says I'm very like my Auntie, and (maybe because of this) she always had my back. She died of cancer when I was 13 and I miss her. (I'm actually crying now thinking of the adult relationship we could have had)

Lovelynames123 · 20/04/2024 11:13

A silver bracelet that my grandmother gave me, which had been hers😢

DeanElderberry · 20/04/2024 11:14

Payslips from the job that is not admitting I worked there, with a bad effect on my pension entitlements. All the earrings.

FortunataTagnips · 20/04/2024 11:17

Family photos from my dad’s side of the family. I’ve never actually seen them, but apparently they were amazing - taken in Russia and Poland, lots of rabbinical-looking men with big hats and beards (not sure about the women)!
My grandmother had them all and they disappeared - either destroyed by her (quite possible) or lost in her final move to an old people’s home.

Aside from those, a favourite rag doll that disappeared when I was a toddler.

Auntieobem · 20/04/2024 11:22

The watch my granda gave my granny when they got married and which was given to me when she died. Lost it on a night out in Dundee about 28 years ago.
