If you were given a box full of every item you've ever lost, what would you look for first?

Mine would be a stuffed toy that was lost in a house move when I was 9. (I don't need a psychologist to tell me it represented more than an actual toy!)

My favourite hoodie.

SquigglePigs · 20/04/2024 11:32

A small blue teddy called Smokey that I lost on holiday when I was about 8.

Swiftly followed by a pair of silver earrings that were a gift from my parents.

DappledThings · 20/04/2024 11:34

A tiny ammonite DS found in our garden when he was 4. I was going to have it turned into a pendant and it got swept off a shelf at some point. I was really disproportionately sad about losing that.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 20/04/2024 11:34

My Dad. I miss him so much

MistyGreenAndBlue · 20/04/2024 11:35

My great gran's diamond pavé ring which just vanished one day never to be seen again.

Or - hmmm actually maybe my musical figurine that same great gran bought me from America when I was a child. But I think that was actually stolen by house movers so maybe doesn't count as "lost"

Or just my great gran. She was fabulous. I miss her.

DuckBushCityLimit · 20/04/2024 11:36

DD1's Original Teddy, lost when she was about three. New Teddy came along to replace him, and is much loved, but we're all still a bit sad about it. He smelt funny and was fairly bald 😥

Echobelly · 20/04/2024 11:37

The scrapbook with almost all the photos I took aged 16-18. I told my mum she could chuck out everything under my bed after I'd moved out and forgot that was there. 😢

My beloved Nokia 3310. Left it on a restaurant table in NYC on my 18th birthday. I’m 38 now. I often wonder how much battery life it has left, wherever it may be .

Coastalcreeksider · 20/04/2024 11:48

My 1st birthday cards from 1955. My dad gave them to me several years ago and I'm buggered if I know where I've put them.

They are so sweet, so old fashioned but absolutely charming to look at the illustrations and read the messages from family long gone.

Gutted I appear to have lost them.😥

MuggedByReality · 20/04/2024 11:50

My red VW Golf which was stolen overnight from outside my flat in 1997. It was never seen again.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/04/2024 11:51

My strawberry enamel pendant from H Samuel in 1993 ( I’m 50% sure it’s under my washing machine) closely followed by Cuddles the bear.

RosePombear · 20/04/2024 11:55

My favourite ever teddy, I lost him when I was about 13 in a hotel and even now if I think about it for too long I get upset.

MagicSpaceTurtle · 20/04/2024 11:59

My WhatsApp messages from my friend who died recently. I bought a new phone and stupidly hadn’t backed up so lost everything.

On a lighter note, a ladybird book we had when I was little which just vanished one day - the Princess and the Pea.

KnittedCardi · 20/04/2024 12:00

My DM's precious gold cross and chain that she let me wear to school when I was about 10. Had to take it off for PE, and it disappeared. The school refused to accept it was taken. It was her Christening chain. She was livid with me and cried for days. Left quite an impression.

Abra1t · 20/04/2024 12:09

Fountain pens.
Bangle my brother gave me decades ago.
Small mouse purse I lost when I was about eight.
Gold cross my grandmother gave me which I wore to do a sport (what was I thinking?!).

ABwithAnItch · 20/04/2024 12:12

Ruby ring I lost as a child. My grandmother gave it to me, ruby is my birthstone. I have no idea where I lost it. Also a scarf I bought from monsoon probably 15 years ago. I loved it, went with everything and was perfect weight. Lost it out walking with DD as a baby. Think it was loosely tied to stroller and came undone. I was gutted.

Another soft toy one, or rather, 5 soft toys. My cousin (2 yrs older than me) had been visiting (I was about 9 yrs old) and his parents had come to collect him. They were chatting to my Mum in the living room whilst we were playing in the toy room. I dipped out to go to the loo, when I got back, some of my toys had gone as had my cousin. I went out of the toy room and the front door was open as was the front gate. No sign of cousin.

I went back to look for my toys and couldn't find them. Went and told my Mum my toys were gone. A search ensued, my cousin turned up again but denied knowing anything about it. He went home with his parents, whilst my Mum searched high and low for the toys, even under the house! Opposite our house (which was on a low cliff of sorts) was a turning place and several walks by which you could go down the cliff. There was also a place where you could just imagine the toys had been thrown over. That's what I believe happened to them, but they were never found and my cousin never admitted doing it. I told my Mum about the open door and gate, but she didn't believe me, goodness knows why!

My engagement ring

Bluebellsinthesun · 20/04/2024 12:27

My 12 week scan photo from when i was a teenager and pregnant. My mother took it and I have no idea what she did but I wasn’t allowed it - I was then taken for a forced termination 2 weeks later and I wish so much i still had that photo.

On my 18th I went to see my dad (I wasn’t allowed out it to see him as they had divorced) he got me a cake and got me a drink at the pub and someone took a photo and he posted it to me but my mother found it and confiscated it. I wish I had that too.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 20/04/2024 13:02

All the family photos that my Nan threw out because she wasn't getting enough attention.
Some things are unforgivable.

Tisfortired · 20/04/2024 13:05

My engagement ring, I think it was lost in the move about 6 years ago.

DS1s comforter, it was a beautiful blue and green ombré blanket that my best friends mum knitted him. He dropped it out of his pram and we never saw it again.

A teddy I loved as a child, it was little red riding hood then you could flip it upside down and pull the dress down and it would turn into the grandma and the wolf. It came with the book. I loved that teddy.

TM1979 · 20/04/2024 13:08

An SD card full of photos of my eldest 2 kids.
Followed by a claddagh ring I lost in the sea and a beautiful pair of earrings someone bought me for my communion.

drawnfrommemory · 20/04/2024 13:12

A black H&M jacket I left on a train in 2007. It was such nice jacket and so well made and cut it looked like it could be designer.

DelurkingAJ · 20/04/2024 13:13

The diamond chip earrings my parents bought me as a graduation present. They were in my flat and vanished. DM still owns the flat and I always hope they might reappear!

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 20/04/2024 13:14

David Cassidy's autograph 😂
