I'm a wuss. I've hidden the loo roll from my lodger

Instead of simply having a conversation. I've taken to keeping it in my bedroom instead of the bathroom, maybe she'll then bloody buy some.

She's lived here some, two months? Maybe slightly longer and never bought any. One night I'd ran out unexpectedly because she'd used the last and I went and borrowed a roll from my local pub.

When she first moved in I asked if she wanted me to continue to buy communal goods (of which loo roll was mentioned) or take it in turns and she confirmed the latter but hasn't.

I guess I feel that she has less money than I have, and doesn't drive and I do. But I also work fulltime and run a small business.

I feel I can't say anything to her but I know I MUST do.
Tonight (she's at work and won't be back until I'm in bed) I am going to send her a mesg and ask her to buy some. I am.

This is so petty. It's loo roll! If you want her to buy some ask her but don't hide the one that's there from her.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 17/04/2024 19:43

Just say to her the turn taking doesn't seem to be working so from now on you'll each buy your own

icelollycraving · 17/04/2024 19:43

Jesus. Just message and say to buy some.

chocmatcha · 17/04/2024 19:43

I did this in a house share as a student. Just had my own personal loo roll to take with me. Not a problem you soon get used to it

checkedshirts · 17/04/2024 19:44

Does the house owner not provide the loo roll?

oopsboops · 17/04/2024 19:44

That's so petty. Just say and be clear.

I'd leave if my landlord did that. Awful

Kalevala · 17/04/2024 19:45

Can you estimate what you use then alternate buying a 9 pack a month on the first shop of the month or something?

TerriPie · 17/04/2024 19:47

🤣 Love it! As they say 'don't get mad, get even'.

Maybe take the towels out the bathroom though in case they improvise

CrushingOnRubies · 17/04/2024 19:47

Shes been there 2 months, how many packs off loo roll have you gone through in 2 months? Can't be that many surely let alone enough to already make this an issue

Notreat · 17/04/2024 19:47

If she is your lodger I would expect toilet roll to be included in her rent

ManchesterBeatrice · 17/04/2024 19:48

Oh god no, don't enforce a buy your own rule.

Have a kitty.

bluecomputerscreen · 17/04/2024 19:48

raise her rent and buy loo roll.

PoppingTomorrow · 17/04/2024 19:48

Just message her and ask her to pick some up (doesn't matter that she can't drive!)
And keep a spare in your room in case of emergencies

TinyYellow · 17/04/2024 19:49

I don’t think it’s petty to ensure you have something as essential as toilet roll when someone else has been selfish enough to both never contribute any and use the last of it.

Send the message OP. It’s completely normal to send people messages asking them to pick things up on their way home.

Sounds scratchy.

SpringOfContentment · 17/04/2024 19:52

I'd message and say the taking turns buying communal stuff isn't working, rent going up X per week, and you will provide it all.

Mumaway · 17/04/2024 19:52

I fairly sure the live-in landlord in a lodger situation should be providing loo roll, kitchen roll, cleaning stuff....Mine always did

PineappleTime · 17/04/2024 19:53

She's a lodger. You buy the loo roll. And the washing up liquid, and the soap, etc

Agree.
She's your lodger, op, not your flatmate.

AntiHop · 17/04/2024 19:59

You are being ridiculous. Woman up and talk to her. FYI when I've been a lodger the home owner has bought that kind of stuff.

Grin

Not if you drug the cat.

This.

It's not a flat share. She's a lodger.

raise her rent and buy loo roll.

That is what was going to say.

Toinduceornot · 17/04/2024 20:04

I’ve had lodgers and always provided toilet rolls as well as cleaning supplies? It’s not a house share.

DrJoanAllenby · 17/04/2024 20:06

How spiteful of you.
