I'm a wuss. I've hidden the loo roll from my lodger

Instead of simply having a conversation. I've taken to keeping it in my bedroom instead of the bathroom, maybe she'll then bloody buy some.

She's lived here some, two months? Maybe slightly longer and never bought any. One night I'd ran out unexpectedly because she'd used the last and I went and borrowed a roll from my local pub.

When she first moved in I asked if she wanted me to continue to buy communal goods (of which loo roll was mentioned) or take it in turns and she confirmed the latter but hasn't.

I guess I feel that she has less money than I have, and doesn't drive and I do. But I also work fulltime and run a small business.

I feel I can't say anything to her but I know I MUST do.
Tonight (she's at work and won't be back until I'm in bed) I am going to send her a mesg and ask her to buy some. I am.

Honestly, just grow up. You sound awful.

CHEESEY13 · 18/04/2024 09:49

It's just bog roll but I get that a small and insignificant niggle can escalate into a major stand-off in next to no time.

I personally would just supply the darn things before I'd risk it getting out-of-hand , petty and even spiteful.

Unless it's not just confined to this one domestic item. Do they 'help' themselves to other stuff?

StarlightLady · 18/04/2024 09:50

Do your visitors have to bring their own loo roll too? I repeat what l said up thread, it is an essential along with hand soap.

Perhaps a different scenario if lodger has her own en suite, but even then it seems mean.

So, no loo roll in bathroom, option 1, find some tissues; risk of blockage. Option 2, wipe on your towel.

Sounds scratchy.

And cruel.

I used to get pissed off years ago when my then-lodger used to take the loo paper I provided into her room instead of her buying tissues!

It was ages ago & I have no idea how it was resolved now.

Does this not also apply to the lodger who used all the toilet roll and left nothing for OP? and then not buy some supplies?

While I wouldn't necessarily have done it this way @Creeperofhabit, I do think it's time for a conversation.

The OP did it ON PURPOSE so a completely different scenario to the lodger.

She's a lodger! That means she's living in your home, not sharing a home equally. You are technically supposed to provide and launder her bedclothes and clean her room (see Gov UK on difference between lodger and tenant.) Put the bloody loo roll back!

And in future, just hike up the weekly charge by £5 to cover loo roll, washing up liquid, washing powder etc.

Where are you seeing the info about technically laundering bed clothes and cleaning her room etc.? Everything I've read just says that you should specify in the agreement whether the landlord or the lodger does those things (which OP has done). I can't see it anywhere on the gov.uk site (but appreciate I might have missed it!).

hottchocolatte · 18/04/2024 19:21

Rather than just taking it and leaving the short you could tell her tomorrow (when she's got chance to go shopping). Will you be buying loo roll today or shall we just buy our own?

having said that I was not aware of that PPs have noted about buying everything for a lodger.

perhaps you should have included it in your costings

Creeperofhabit · 18/04/2024 20:28

Maybe I should, I had a conversation about it instead and we agreed we'd buy things ourselves.

It's been about 24 hours since I posted on this thread, and yet I'm still reading the thread title as "I've hidden the loo roll from my todger", every time I see it on my Threads I'm On.

Needanewjobsoon · 19/04/2024 03:00

You're each going to have your own loo roll??

Do you know how petty this makes you sound?
