Where is your oldest coathanger from?

I just realised that one of my coat hangers is from MK One, which I haven't shopped at since I was about seventeen (and hasn't existed for many years Sad).

Does anyone else have any 'vintage' coathangers? I feel weirdly attached to my MK One one, now. We've clearly been through a lot together.

I have one covered with felt, with a stuffed teddy bear head on it that was a Christmas present 51 years ago 😁.

Tesco.

They’re all plain black. Every single one matches. Probably had them around 12 years.

A 1940s one from a London tailor. It belonged to dh's grandfather.

Greywitch2 · 14/04/2024 18:03

I've got some satin covered stuffed ones, that I think my Gran might have given me (I'm almost 60).

I've also got some solid wooden ones with a bar that I think are probably from the 1950s/60s?

Electra Palace Hotel in Rhodes from 1992.

Simplepink · 14/04/2024 18:04

Manzana · 14/04/2024 18:12

a 1930s, 1940s wooden one from Brenner Sport, my dad used to work for them

A gents outfitters at London Bridge that closed in the 60s. DW's grandfather got a suit from them c 1956.

I found one from C&A the other week. I used to love their 'clock house' brand as a teenager

Twolittleloves · 14/04/2024 19:32

Haha I LOVE this post 😂 My current most elderly hanger is a Topshop one (haven't shopped in there in many years, as it was all getting too small sizing for me and showed too much flesh!) I used to have some of the old grey New look ones, and various ones with 8/10/12 stickers on which were aincent too, but I got rid of them because they just depressed me 😅

Greywitch2 · 14/04/2024 19:41

I'm going to have to go through my wardrobe this evening now!

I have a sudden urge to check for the names on hangers and see where they came from.😁

leafinthewind · 14/04/2024 19:43

I've got one with my dad's name on it from when he went away to university in the '60s. Love this post!

I was expecting more posts along the 'CLOCKHOUSE' line than the actual proper antique line, but all comers welcome!

I think I'd like to have a good old St. Michael one. It'd match a skirt I bought on Vinted that unfortunately makes me look like Rose West.

florenceandthemac · 14/04/2024 20:05

Chelsea Girl also changed to River Island in 1988

Impatientwino · 14/04/2024 20:07

I have a C&A one! I've kept it as I have such fond memories of dragging my mum round there on Saturdays pleading for something new!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/04/2024 20:08

Funnily enough, I came across a Racing Green hanger today in my wardrobe and thought, 'how old is that?' It's at least 21 years old.

TheFairyCaravan · 14/04/2024 20:08

DH has got a wooden one that FIL took with him when he joined the RAF for national service. It’s got his service number written on it.

He’s, also, got one from when he joined the RAF in 1986 with his own service number on .

That is so cool

DMIL had it before she got married and wrote her name in it, though goodness knows why. She would have been married 62 years this year.
