Where is your oldest coathanger from?

I just realised that one of my coat hangers is from MK One, which I haven't shopped at since I was about seventeen (and hasn't existed for many years Sad).

Does anyone else have any 'vintage' coathangers? I feel weirdly attached to my MK One one, now. We've clearly been through a lot together.

Apart from a couple of wooden inherited hangers from independent tailors, l think my oldest one is from Miss Selfridge. I do have 2 or 3 from C&A, but l think they are much newer. C&A are still very big in mainland Europe.

Strand Palace Hotel, circa 1960, one of those complicated gentleman’s
huge heavywooden hangers for a suit, purloined by a non gentlemanly Dad,
now supporting a heavy winter tweed coat, thanks Dad.

Does anyone remember the smell and sounds of granny’s wooden wardrobe?
eyewatering camphor, mothballs, lavender sachets, screeching metal rails
rattling with metal hooks on ancient curvy wooden hangers which my fastidious Mum would have binned. Sadly.

What a great thread.

I have a lot from Johnsons dry cleaners. DH and I used to wear suits to work that were dry cleaned regularly. The hangers must all be 25 years old now.

When my familiy's store closed down they auctioned off all the stuff left inside, one hanger with the name of the store on went for £80. (Probably to a family member?)
My deceased Dad's wardrobe must gave had loads in, as he had all his suits made there.
This us making me cry !

B Wise clothing. My parents didn’t have a lot of money and we used to go there for clothes. I hated it and always wanted to go to more fashionable places.

I love the people still have wooden hangers with their names on, might make a couple for my children as a useful item to stay with them.

LOADS of my clothes were from B-Wise - couldn't afford anything else! I'd quite like a hanger from them, now, even though at the time I was mortified that I had to shop there (along with Ethel Austin).

My grandfather's. He'd be about 130 now.

This thread is unexpectedly hilarious - loving the granny in the wardrobe and the poster who has an item that makes her look like Rose West 😅

I have a crochet covered hanger of my nan's from circa 1940 and then an assortment of BHS, top shop, Tammy Girl, Bay Trading, Oasis. Some more vintage than others.

And not what was asked but I also have a Henry's Cat book from St Michael.
