Where are all the posh, wealthy folk holidaying this year?

I'm neither but the wealthy middle class families in the Dc's class are headed to Greece & Ibiza.
One of the families was skiing in Austria at half term, the other family skiing in the French Alps in the Easter hols.
Also they have numerous UK trips to St Ives etc during the summer..

Happy to be getting away to Spain this year. But I do get wanderlust watching where the people with money & means go!

We have our own boat, so a lot of Sailing.
Apart from that 4 summer hols planned.
Perhaps Africa in October Half Term.
Skied at New Year.

Soigneur · 14/04/2024 14:07

Our place in Val Thorens for Christmas and Feb half term. Our place near Antibes for summer.

Elebag · 14/04/2024 14:11

I thought that St Barts and Mustique were the dead posh places.

LittleMonks11 · 14/04/2024 14:26

This thread full of new best friends I'm going to make 😂

Honestly....bar the likes of Benidorm and other traditionally tacky places like that I think they holiday in the same places as everyone else but stay at the higher end places/villas.

This. You can go to Spain in a way that is only affordable to the wealthy, or you could stay in cheap and cheerful places in Greece or Ibiza.

We're going to a mountain spa town in Andalucia soon. DP is doing 'big boys downhill mountain biking' of the type that requires body armour and a full face helmet that I'm too incompetent to attempt.

I'm going to go on some nice walks and read/eat tapas in the sun, might have a spa session then we'll go out for dinner in the evening. I might spend a couple of days in Granada, but because we're not posh or wealthy I'll get an apartment or hotel for about £50 a night or so, I did look at staying in the Parador (state run national monuments converted into hotels) but it was about £400 per night Shock. So we're going to Spain, but our holiday will look nothing like a week's AI on the Costas but it won't cost any more.

Wealthy people often go to places like Cornwall or the Scillies, but people on more modest incomes would often look at the cost and think 'you can go abroad and have guaranteed sun for less, so we'll do that instead'.

It does also depend on whether travel, or a holiday is important to your family. I wouldn’t want a holiday home as that would drive me mad, but lots of people feel they’ve ’made it’ when they have one. It would be cheaper to buy one than what we spend on trips, but it’s not appealing.

You said posh and wealthy? That's not middle class

Right?? Middle class ≠ posh and wealthy by definition.

Sallysoup · 14/04/2024 14:53

I'm as working class as you can get btw. Working class does not equal poor 😂or limit the number of holidays you are allowed, or the standard of accommodation.

Winter- not summer unless you own property

I am wealthy-ish. Already been to Greece this year. Got Japan, Singapore, Greece, Albania, USA booked for the rest of the year so far.

Edited

I do the UK only so far, for many reasons. 🙂

The rich family we know are so stratospherically rich they decide at the last minute. Literally a few days before. Mexico? Vietnam? Then if they don’t like it when they get there or the weather isnt right they hop off somewhere else. Blows my mind!

Coastal Kenya
The Hamptons
Sardinia
Scilly Isles

We just came back from Greece (Peloponnese). The EasyJet plane was full of the poshest old people you could wish to meet. Linen clothes, proper hiking walking sticks, imaginative scarves, strident swearing in posh ('fack!' etc). Despite being a bit obnoxious as a group, they were obviously having the best time and seemed so happy, even when annoyed by Greek customs.

Greece in April was an absolute revelation - only ever been in August before so was completely taken aback by the sheer gloriousness of Greek springtime.

Ditto a Cypriot springtime, so colourful!

Friends of mine have a villa on an island off the coast - they never have any trouble there.

DrCoconut · 14/04/2024 15:06

Bodyshame1980 · 14/04/2024 15:08

That is the life 😅

Should add that this is all stuff I’ve booked for clients. Not my own trips.

im off to Disney Paris in October for my big birthday. That’s my trip this year.

KnittedCardi · 14/04/2024 15:25

We are not that posh, or that wealthy, just well off MC, but we do like a nice holiday as far away from where everyone else goes as possible. We go to South Sardinia, to a secret location, not a big hotel, or a resort. It's bliss. It costs about £10k for two weeks, half board, travel etc.

KingscoteStaff · 14/04/2024 15:30

Posh but not wealthy: Staffordshire for Christmas, Scotland for New Year, Lech for Spring half term, Thurlestone for Easter, Cap Ferrat for summer.

Nibblering · 14/04/2024 15:40

We’ve had a year packed with travel, which isn’t usual but post-Covid wanted to seize the moment.

2023
March/April - Madeira
May/June - Seychelles
July - DS1 Norway with a relative
August - Kefalonia
October - Valencia
December - Vienna
December - Barcelona

2024
February - Marrakesh
April - Sri Lanka
August - Nice
October - Sicily
December - Seville

It’s going to go back to being calm in 2025 though!

Babachew · 14/04/2024 15:56

Not Scillies, or Scilly Isles please.
It's The Isles of Scilly.

Don't they all go to the Caribbean? Hang out on rich folks' islands together?

Nope, wrong season. Christmas / New Year in Caribbean.
