Where are all the posh, wealthy folk holidaying this year?

I'm neither but the wealthy middle class families in the Dc's class are headed to Greece & Ibiza.
One of the families was skiing in Austria at half term, the other family skiing in the French Alps in the Easter hols.
Also they have numerous UK trips to St Ives etc during the summer..

Happy to be getting away to Spain this year. But I do get wanderlust watching where the people with money & means go!

The truly posh love a UK destination - Scotland for deer stalking, north Norfolk, some areas of Cornwall etc...
Abroad - some places have always attracted that lot (lots of France like Dordogne, most of southern France, Tuscany, Sardinia, Carribbean over new year/Jan).

Roarasaurus · 14/04/2024 11:49

Worked for a lot of wealthy, posh people over the years. They seem to do skiing in the Alps Feb/march, Balearic island villas, second homes in France/Devon/Cornwall for summer. Carribbean in winter months. Maybe Bali or South Africa occasionally. They often have family property in various beautiful locations of the UK too.

What do you consider wealthy ?
we are holidaying in South east Asia this year and I don’t consider myself post / wealthy , to me the hols you’ve mentioned are typical hols destinations that many people can afford so I’d not consider them posh / wealthy.

posh wealthy is who can afford 10-15k hols without the need to save a penny

I would class posh & wealthy as more middle class who prefer to head slightly off the beaten track & always say the village their going to rather than the country as they just expect people to know where it is.. Eg we're off skiing to Oberlech etc rather than just Austria..

The Caribbean is only for winter sailing holidays. The summer months are humid and bring hurricanes, so most tourist resorts are cheap and quiet then.

Fingers crossed for some sun here in the UK. Nowhere nicer in a decent summer.

takemeawayagain · 14/04/2024 12:33

We went to Ibiza, I think it's over rated unless you want huge clubs. Cafe Del Mar is bizarrely underwhelming, can't understand the hype - we didn't stay in San Antonio but found it soulless.
We're going Greek Island hopping in the summer. We're not posh or wealthy though, just comfortable and prioritise travel. We go abroad pretty cheaply about 5 times a year.

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 14/04/2024 12:44

I'm going to Greece next week, but I'm not posh. Or wealthy. I'd rather be wealthy than posh.

MistyBerkowitz · 14/04/2024 12:48

I think you e got confused ideas about he middle classes, ‘posh and wealthy’. Old money peoole around here tend to go to their west Cork places.

Haha at the wealthy never going to Dubai 😂

Maybe they meant that posh or upper middle class dont go to Dubai?

Sgtmajormummy · 14/04/2024 13:13

You need to be rich to own and run a yacht in the Mediterranean, even if you’re sailing it yourself.
If you want a yacht with a crew (skipper, deck crew, cook and housekeeping) it’s beyond most people’s budget.
So the mega rich use it part of the summer and rent it out to their chums the rest of the time.

tiredandabitfat · 14/04/2024 13:16

I love the people who are coming on and just listing their holidays, without clarifying if they are posh or wealthy or both.

Like it just goes without saying Grin

TakeOnFlea · 14/04/2024 13:28

"Italy. Sardinia, Ligurian Riviera or Sorrento.

Its not cheap and therefore attracts a certain type of holidaymaker."

Really?! It's a standard 7 euros for a pizza, 9 for a simple pasta dish, 2 for gelato. Accommodation can be cheap if you book an apartment independently and flights are bargain basement with Ryanair to Italy.

Much cheaper than a uk holiday.

StoneHenge85 · 14/04/2024 13:31

Frinton!

Clearinguptheclutter · 14/04/2024 13:34

There’s a an awful lot of posh folks in Abersoch, west wales. They’re mostly second homers though so go to Abersoch for a big stint of the summer without it being their “main holiday” which I suspect is in St Barts or Mustique or similar

BoneshakerBike · 14/04/2024 10:41

Winter- not summer unless you own property

I am wealthy-ish. Already been to Greece this year. Got Japan, Singapore, Greece, Albania, USA booked for the rest of the year so far.

Edited

Albania is the new Greece & Croatia! @BoneshakerBike

Not posh or wealthy, we are possibly what people would class as middle class we are off to Turkey, and Croatia. Friends who I would class as wealthy are off to places like Zanzibar, Turks, cruising or the Indian Ocean.

ememem84 · 14/04/2024 10:47

I work for the very wealthy (family office type work)

choices this year are:

shooting in scotland
golf resorts - Scotland/spain/west coast of Ireland
Sri lanka
jordan
nepal
cruising Alaska

That is the life 😅

We are off to Tanzania and Zanzibar, just got back from skiing in Italy, and then Switzerland.

We're not posh or wealthy, but we're comfortable and lots of our disposable income goes on travelling. This year we are going to/have already been...

Norway for New Year, including a days skiing at Skimore (3 nights)
Skiing in the French Alps followed by two nights in Paris at Easter (9 nights)
Luxembourg in May half term (3 nights)
Dubrovnik in August (3-4 nights planned, no DH or kids, just my best friend and I)
Northern France at the end of August (6 nights)
Sofia around September (3 nights planned, DH and friends trip)
Dorset October Half term (Haven, 3 nights with friends)
Skiing in Italy over Christmas (4 nights)

A mix of transportation. We interrailed for Easter Skiing, we'll drive to N. France (via Chunnel) and Dorset and the rest are/were flights. All are booked apart from our individual trips.

Please report back on Luxembourg, considering doing a weekend with DH & the kids, flights are very cheap

Gosh . I knew I wasn't posh or wealthy but I am beginning to feel very hard done by .😥

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 14/04/2024 11:08

Please can you define posh and wealthy so I know whether to answer or not?

I mean not upper class or aristocratic. Wealthy as in can afford multiple trips & posh as in middle class to upper middle class.

Everyone I’m talking to is going on not one, but three or four holidays this year, and they are not even wealthy people!

Wtf is going on at all?

The weather has been especially shite!!

We went away for a week at Christmas, just done 4 nights in Spain, about to book another 4 nights in May half term then either October if we get a good summer or August if it pisses down as usual.

I spend a long time comparing flights and accommodation prices, I enjoy it and it's not as expensive as you think if you just look at packages.

We have decent enough salaries (not the 6 figure mn standard) but far from wealthy.

LittleMonks11 · 14/04/2024 13:56

Agree with the flights full everywhere - I'm happy to go anywhere this spring/summer but flights SO expensive to anywhere. Thinking of driving our leccie car over to the continent now to save millions of pounds. Just back from USA for Easter and our £3.5k (with Avios) for 3.

Barleysugar86 · 14/04/2024 13:57

From talking to the Directors in my large company, Southern France, Thailand and Malaysia. I'm assuming their Thailand holiday will look nothing like the Thailand holidays of my youth however!

Cristall · 14/04/2024 14:04

The CEO who owns my employer goes to South Africa. His secretary disparagingly said that people still have “servants” there and there’s an upstairs-downstairs mentality that he enjoys. He also goes to Switzerland a lot.
