Where are all the posh, wealthy folk holidaying this year?

I'm neither but the wealthy middle class families in the Dc's class are headed to Greece & Ibiza.
One of the families was skiing in Austria at half term, the other family skiing in the French Alps in the Easter hols.
Also they have numerous UK trips to St Ives etc during the summer..

Happy to be getting away to Spain this year. But I do get wanderlust watching where the people with money & means go!

I would really hate formal entertainment as part of a holiday but when my children were little, they loved the kids club wherever we went - usually Eurocamp. I’m not sure that’s still a thing.

In the last couple of years, we've been to Ikos in Greece and Spain, St Anton and Zermatt for skiing and just come back from Barbados (food in the supermarket was so expensive it made Zermatt prices look like Aldi).

My wealthier friends have places in Salcombe and Rock so go there more than travelling abroad. Norfolk is also popular.

kezzykicks · 14/04/2024 18:13

I live in a wealthy, but not posh area. The holidays I have seen families in my children's school going to over Easter have been skiing, Barbados, road trip across America and Mexico.

Wealthy but not posh here, I’m going to New York, Turkey and Greece this summer.

Can I come? 😅

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/04/2024 18:17

I work with UHNWI, so Succession style wealthy. Recent trips some of them have been are:

  • Sports holiday in NZ
  • Amangiri, UT
  • Montego Bay
  • Park Hyatt, St Kitts
  • Ritz Carlton in USVI or Grand Cayman
  • Athens
  • Patagonia

That's when they're not at their ski chalets or their beach houses or their Yachts.

" wealthy middle class families in the Dc's class are headed to Greece & Ibiza."

Errm... neither wealthy nor middle class people are likely to go to either, unless they a property there. Or they are not at all wealthy.

It's all about the postcodes. Some will be urban estates (nul points, even with pools) and some will be lush secluded yet convenient enclaves.

TheaBrandt · 14/04/2024 18:34

Wealthy do go to Greece and Spain that’s where the best weather is in the summer many long haul places are rainy. I know this from the horses mouth!

Mum friend who I imagine is 10 times richer than the incomes of all of us on this thread added together 😀 suggested Greece for the summer looks like she will take dd2 as her dds companion result .

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/04/2024 18:35

What's the appeal in Salcombe? It's just a few shops and a pub. Sheringham isn't that much better unless you're obsessed with steam trains or avoiding lumps of cliff falling onto your head if you decide to have a walk up to Henry Blogg's statue and see the neverchanging lifeboat museum.

iAmBarbara · 14/04/2024 18:36

lots of uk travel in my experience, particularly Cornwall (Rock, St Ives etc)

Papyrophile · 14/04/2024 18:38

No one goes to Salcombe unless they have a boat to sail. It doesn't need to be huge. But it is beautiful easy safe sailing.

Papyrophile · 14/04/2024 18:40

It's also fine to rent a canoe/kayak. Nobody will judge.

Garlicked · 14/04/2024 18:50

I'm spending June at our house in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Not sure about July: I fancied driving over to Switzerland and seeing where we end up, but DH is keen to visit the Norwegian islands in summer. We can borrow a friend's boat for the month.
August mostly at home, having people over.
Might spend the first two weeks of September at our beach house on Corfu, catching the last of the summer sun.
My annual shopping trip to New York in October. DH goes off to do a sport thing.
We're visiting friends in St Lucia this November.
No plans yet for December. Last year we had Christmas in Mexico, but it was a massive hassle with social engagements as well.
I like to be somewhere warm through Jan - Feb! Currently thinking Zanzibar for February; DH is keen to get some ski-ing in January so I might have to compromise.

... In reality, I'm spending the whole year at my tiny flat in Noweheresville, UK 😂

Well. I've got my new pool (thank you everybody). So personally, I'll be splashing about (in the shallow end) with my flamingo rubber ring. Fortunately the pool is heated (thank you again) so it should be really pleasant, although the months ahead do look a little stormy (according to my advisors) but then what do they know!

After all inflation's down (although not on my rubber ring I hope, ha-ha) Labour's in a bit of a pickle with their 'housing policy' whilst the Liberals - well who knows?

Bring on the Li-los, I say!

Le pool de noir....

🤣🤣🤣 I'd rather go anywhere on holiday with humour like this than be bored rigid in the Seychelles with the posh.

WildFlowerBees · 14/04/2024 19:19

V wealthy family I know took their plane and went to Formentera, Greece a retreat in India and LA. I don't think there's a particular place but there are places where the 'High Value People' go because of the exclusivity of where they're going.

TeenLifeMum · 14/04/2024 19:20

Puerto Rico seems popular with the doctors and surgeons (consultants) this year.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 14/04/2024 19:21

We are going to Mallorca.

Next year Eurodisney. Only a week as I’ll still be recovering from Mat pay.

Our nursery fees halve next year when eldest starts school. Will have a nice villa holiday every summer after that! Not worried about school holiday bump ups. It’s nowhere near what nursery costs.

FishPie2 · 14/04/2024 19:23

Asolutely Vietnam but only for a month to do travelling by train. What a wonderful country this is, food, fashion and people. We have done it for the last 3 years and love it.
We have a place near Falmouth where we holiday but would much rather go to Asia - the rent in Cornwall pays everywhere we go.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/04/2024 19:34

@Garlicked I like your sense of humour- lol!!

MargaretThursday · 14/04/2024 19:40

We've just been to Butlins and we'll probably go to a caravan in Kent in the summer.
Will that do?
