Antisemitic tropes seem to be popular with RW Tory women. Remember Miriam Cates at the NatC conference?Hmm

Omg are they going green/purple/white? Angryall in on the "party for women's rights" then. Gross.

The Conservative Home site has has the trans flag colours. Talk about hedging your bets.🙄

Just catching up but had to react to this. I ❤Lea Ypi and can't believe such an erudite, articulate woman is written about in such a crass way by some bloke who seems to think he's writing for some 6th form rag.

That was just a grotesque male. Many of them about. God I’d hate to share a changing room with that pervy specimen.

The link I posted wasn’t that one. It was referring to work by a man many folk on this post seen to like.

Edited

To be fair though, the other link does give quite an insight to the quality of writing in the Spectator. And we mustn't forget who edited it for a season before thrashing the country with his Brexit lies.

L1ttledrummergirl · 18/04/2024 23:32

I'm watching question time. Loving this audience so far. Especially the lady taking the tories to task over the NHS.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2024 06:57

Truss was on my local news last night repeatedly being asked if she was doing anything as a constituency MP. She said 'as I mention in my book' eight times.

When told what her constituents are saying she replied basically that the constituents did not know what her constituents thought because she knows what they think. And that the Conservative voter standing against her as an independent is 'not a Conservative'.

Zonder · 19/04/2024 07:05

That woman. She has some kind of personality disorder that must be called Total Lack of Self Awareness.

Anyway what are her constituents saying @Piggywaspushed ?

Jason118 · 19/04/2024 07:34

She also mentioned 'in the constituency at weekends' knocking on doors, I'd love to know how that's been going!

He’s a sight more Conservative than she is. If he takes that seat it will be the Portillo moment x 💯

I see DEFRA has delayed Brexit checks for the 6th time.
Implementing the checks would create 'significant disruption' and fuel price inflation - not something the Government wants in an election year.

So delayed again til October - but what is the betting that they will be delayed a 7th time and left as another gift for an incoming government?

As far as I understand them we do need the checks for biosecurity so they can't continue to be put off.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/04/2024 08:05

But what happened to the world beating customs checking that we had last week when we were definitely ready for the checks.

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2024 08:08

Quote from Government spokesman 48 hours ago -
“We are confident we have sufficient capacity and capability across all points of entry to handle the volume and type of expected checks, while inspectors have undertaken extensive training to ensure goods are treated safely and with care.”

Something must have happened in the last 48 hours!!

Well, exactly. The Spectator published that article. That's enough for me not to bother. Besides, they're Tory supporting, so they're not going to be reasonable about anything John Crace writes. Just as a review in the Guardian wouldn't be reasonable about a compilation of Crace's opposite number at the Daily Mail.

Another quote was

“A Defra official also cautioned against disclosing it to the media, saying one of its main aims was to avoid negative news stories.”

There is a FT link in this tweet (c&p doesn't work for me, probably because it is an archive one)

That she doesn't care about the constituency!

Apparently she says she does 'in her book'.

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2024 08:32

Well if it's in her book it must be true!
Ideally her constituents would buy and read her book so they could appreciate how much she has done for them

BIossomtoes · 19/04/2024 08:38

And he thinks that’s going to help him?

Th Plan is working Blossom

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2024 08:45

Reforming sick notes is sensible BUT it’s got almost nothing to do with rise in people who are on disability benefits or out of the labour market entirely due to ill health. Remember a sick note signs you off temporarily when you HAVE a job - it doesn’t sign you on to benefits

x.com/torstenbell/status/1781222924277661793?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Of course what might be useful is an increase in numbers of GPs and doctors, better access to medical services, investment in NHS infrastructure & technology and in mental health services (particularly for children/teens).

Otherwise I'd suggest that Sunak's speech is just a load of old flannel.

bombastix · 19/04/2024 08:48

What I notice is that the economy is now looking really really shagged in terms of housing. Literally I do not think a lot of people can afford their mortgages. Where I live, the amount of high spec, suspiciously cheap property is striking. People are trying to sell up and fast.

A bit of anecdata but looks like in this bit of London at least people are very overstretched

IClaudine · 19/04/2024 09:04

God this pisses me off.

As that Tweeter says fit notes (they are not called sick notes, haven't been for years) are needed only when a person initially claims ESA.

Then there is a (horrible, humiliating) face to face interview with a health professional. They then send a report to a decision maker at the DWP. The decision maker decides whether or not a person should continue to get ESA in the long term. If they decidey'yes' fit notes are no longer needed.

So it is the DWP which "signs" people off as "long term sick".

Notonthestairs · 19/04/2024 09:16

According to Mel Stride people "drift" on to long term benefits.

So either Mel Stride doesn't understand the system or he's deliberately misleading voters.

IClaudine · 19/04/2024 09:20

Thank god they will all be gone soon.
