As in he had written a letter and it now doesn't count, or the number of letters needed to trigger has dropped?

The number of letters needed to trigger has dropped.Grin

prettybird · 18/04/2024 19:03

The "independents" are apparently now the 4th largest party Grin

JessS1990 · 18/04/2024 19:06

BIossomtoes · 18/04/2024 18:51

I think the requisite number of letters falls with every MP they lose. Independent, ex Tory MPs might soon form the majority party at this rate.

15% of Tory MPs have to have written in letters.

15% of 346 is 51.9.

I think 346 is the current number of Tory MPs.
When there were 347 MPs, 53 would have needed to have written whereas now I asusme they would take it as 52. I doubt they round down.
So if the 346 figure is up to date then it has indeed lowered by 1 with this unfortunate event.

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/04/2024 19:06

It needs to be at least 15% of sitting MPs. So the fewer MPs the fewer letters needed. It was 53 letters needed but now 52.

Tory majority now down to 49.

Yay, our maths agrees.

Not a Scot but it’s “Mingies”, isn’t it?

Chirruping? Are we crickets now?

You are whatever you think you are.

I wonder does that mean that you could also be whatever someone else thinks you are?

It’s all so… intangible..

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2024 19:22

Usually, except Nick Eardley on the BBC said Menzies. So now I'm thrown into disarray....

The famous newsagent is also said Menzies. Or Menzieses in Glasgow.

BIossomtoes · 18/04/2024 19:24

I used to work for a company that supplied Menzies and we were warned very firmly to always call it Mingies.

Saucery · 18/04/2024 19:24

Local news pronounces it Menzies.

Do the Tories have a special factory, with a production line of grifters criminals sex crazed racist insane nutjobs being turned out every few minutes, it does appear that the government has a wonderful knack of recruiting these people.
yy John Crace I would actually run away with him.

Maybe they could open a theme park with the surplus when they lose the General Election. Conservative World.

Not sure who would visit it though. Maybe ex Eton boys with particular pecadillos?

I wish I was married to John Crace. 💕

I know I know, you 💓 Crace, and the best books are those that tell you what you know already - so you’ll have no time for this review.. However, it is good to read stuff you might not won’t agree with, cognitive processes engaged more etc.

I'm just finishing up the latest Russell Jones book which has kept me diverted. When you see it all written down it's quite quite mad.

Fuck me, that's some next level protecting of women from a Tory supporting magazine right there. Loving it.
