New thread. I took the liberty - the old one was at 999!

I just think using the phrase 'hairy bollocks' isn't in the spirit of these threads and shows a visceral hatred of transwomen that doesn't help anyone, no matter where they stand on the issue.

What?

‘Visceral hatred of transwomen’? That is a bizarre and frankly, offensive conclusion based on my description of a males’ anatomy.

I do hate predatory men (are there any women who don’t?). Not all men are predatory. Not all men are trans women.

But the vast majority of predators, are men.

And it is these predatory men that we don’t want in women’s safe spaces (for example).

We don’t lock our doors because every one is a burglar. We lock them because some people are burglars.

Saucery · 17/04/2024 16:37

Why are you spamming the thread with Gen Crit 101, @Lion400 ? We’re all familiar with the arguments for and against allowing transwomen into women’s spaces.

Spamming? You do realise that I am replying to people?

Meh, you say Replying, I say Shoehorning Irrelevancies…..let’s call the whole thing off…

Are you? One wouldn’t know it.

Is that you Lloyd? Owen? Oh no, not Owen..

Saucery · 17/04/2024 16:43

One might need to follow the threads, read the room etc.

Today's Newscast is talking about bringing in legislation to stop convicted paedophiles claiming access rights to their own children.
That was a bizarre legislative gap, whereby paedophiles were prevented from accessing children in general but had enshrined rights to access their own children. The father's rights to access superseded the child's rights to safety and protection.

pointythings · 17/04/2024 16:51

It's the zero sum thinking and utter lack.of nuance that puts me off. In GC world, if you don't see the trans issue as 100% of everything and the only thing that matters politically, you're a TRA. It's madness, it achieves nothing, it just deepens divisions. There's a lot of work to be done to make things work, protect women's spaces, protect children. The Cass report is a good start. But until the loud people on both sides start listening, nothing will happen.

I detest TRAs. I also detest people who cannot talk about transwomen without needing to use derogatory terminology. You don't need to bring descriptions of genitals into a discussion. Doing so says a lot about you and frankly devalues the valid points you make.

pointythings · 17/04/2024 16:52

@InMySpareTime that piece of legislation was long overdue. Protection for children and women from a Labour politician, who'd have thought?

Extraordinary. Harman obviously had a fit of the head staggers. 🙄

Exactly what the intent is.

Could you demonstrate where Labour are ‘obsessing over trans rights’ please? I must have missed it.

In the heads of a small number of people who are deeply exercised by knowing what a woman is.

Do we know yet how Sunak intends to finance the NI abolition? I can't remember.

He doesn't know.

He may even have the awareness that knowing the answer doesn't matter because he is never going to implement it.

BIossomtoes · 17/04/2024 17:02

Could we possibly shelve the trans issue for a bit? These threads used to be a welcome respite from it.

Starmer brought in genitals. Before that I’m not sure I’d even written the word penis in relation to politics. Maybe called someone a dick (Yes. Yes I definitely called JRM a dick).

If we are talking about trans women, and women’s rights infringement / removal / erosion, as unseemly as it is to some people, the root of it all is penises. Males. Male hormones.

That is the issue. It is impossible to consider why women rights are being eroded, without acknowledging the obvious.

True. It is just more pie in the sky.

IClaudine · 17/04/2024 17:11

I am just catching up a bit here as didn't see PMQs. But Starmer batting very publicly for Rayner must mean he is very certain she really hasn't done anything wrong.

BREAKING: The Commons rejects ALL four Lords amendments to Rwanda bill.

Fourth amendment proposed those who worked with the UK military or govt overseas, such as Afghan interpreters, be exempted from removal to Rwanda. Shameful. #RwandaBill
