Israel need a taste of their own medicine. They are despicable. The sheer hypocrisy of people on here now worried for Israeli’s. Where is your concern for innocent Palestinian civilians who have been murdered for months on end?

There are people on this thread who have family in Israel. You are the hypocrite calling people despicable as you clearly have zero empathy for Israeli civilians.

This! I'm sick of it. I have family in Israel too.
And believe me, people there are very very scared.

All parties are avoiding a regional war. Iran used language that made it clear last nights attack was a revenge strike rather than a "gloves off" escalation. Regional war has so far been avoided.

Are they? is Israel doing all it can to de escalate? & anything Iran says has to be taken with a ton of salt.

300 missiles and drones (if true) is hardly a measured response.

What on earth did Israel think would happen after bombing and killing Iranians in their embassy?

This all seems to be about Netanyahu's political survival and keeping him out of court, the wider implications seem to have passed him by.

A consequence of all this is that it means even less support for Ukraine in their fight against Russia, as the US and other supply Israel instead... that'll have far far bigger implications for Europe.

I understand there is an aid package that is being held up in Congress and it has funding for Ukraine and Israel - this may mean it gets passed now

I will say one last thing before I leave this thread.

I have the most moderate politics you could imagine. I had a lot of sympathy for the Palestinian cause, and their lack of real choice in leadership and education, and I have never flinched from looking at both sides and saying when I think the Israeli government has been in the wrong and where there have been errors in the past and where they need to step up and be a lot better.

However, having read thousands of posts like yours over the last 6 months, I now fully realise that the level of blatant misinformation and refusal to look at both sides, from 'the other side' is mind boggling.

The inability to have any compassion for the Israeli /Jewish side. The ripped down posters. The whataboutery.
The inability to see that there can be two sides to history and the truth is in the middle.

Posts like yours have led me to see how blinded and full of hate people are. I now believe that there is no hope for peace or justice for the ordinary Palestinians who want to live in peace. The Islamists and the far left /Marxists will never allow it while Israel exists.

There is no hope of a 1 state solution, not that there has ever been hope of that actually working. And no hope of a 2 state solution. There has been too much brainwashing and radicalisation for Israel to be allowed to exist.

I finally have realised in the last 6 months that antisemitism is a real thing, I was always one to deny that and say it was paranoia. And I have realised that Jewish people need to stick together and defend ourselves and how important it is that Israel exists and is strong.

And posts like yours and the earlier post I responded to have played a full part in that. So, congratulations on your part in promoting peace and tolerance.

I'm about to have a baby and this all feels very bleak. What kind of world am I bringing my little boy in to? This, and the news about nuclear weapons I heard on Friday afternoon is making me feel very scared.

Hope for everyone who has loved ones out there, that they will be safe. ❤️

This is a really normal feeling when big events happen around birth. My eldest was born when the Malaysian airliner went missing, and I was overwhelmed by that at the time, and my youngest was a week old at the Brexit referendum and I sobbed onto his tiny head all night. Big scary events feel bigger and scarier with a new baby in the mix.

But what about people who have family in Iran? In Gaza? In neighbouring countries?

The whole region is on the blink of catastrophe because two despotic regimes have been allowed to go too far. Both nations (Israel and Iran) have wanted the excuse to go to town on each other for such a long time. And the west has watched on and enabled.

Primroseoil · 14/04/2024 09:34

Well Matthew Syed says yes the risk is significant. He says Europe / NATO needs to start spending its full agreed budget on defence. It's not exactly cheering.

NeatTaupeShaker · 14/04/2024 09:40

Under International law, any embassy in any country is considered territory of the particular country it is representing.

Thus, Iran is justified legally and morally in striking back at Israel, a country that has spent years engaging in terrorism against Iran, including assassinating civilian workers and scientists.

I wish the UK would stay out of this one.

We should be calling for restraint and peace.

Iran has shot itself in its middle foot
IE, the hundred plus drones launched, possibly one will land in Israel hopefully in an open area. This will show the world how weak Iran is and its bark is much worse than its bite.

Morning

As posted by me last night, see above - I was almost spot on about one drone getting through

Around 290 drones fired and ten cruise missiles - almost 99% were shot down and landed in open areas and a handful were allowed to land in open areas.

Iran has just proved to the world that it has 5th rate drones and is no match for modern warfare.

Thankfully only one injured a 7 year old school girl by falling deris.

Israel can now strik at Iran with impunity if they wish but the wont but they will take out more leaders

This is the end of this self inflicted humility by Iran

Iran is now officially a lol stock

End

takemeawayagain · 14/04/2024 09:51

Netanyahu is a complete liability. I feel bad for the Palestinians and the Israeli's living through these terrible times.

OTOH - Iran could have predicted this would happen but would have been able to show to its people that it retaliated.

Let's hope that Israel don't do anything to provoke further escalation.

The poster was reacting to the awful and ill informed comments by a poster who stated ‘Israelis got what they deserved’. Theres an awful lot of anti semitic and vitriol aimed at Jews, whilst most of the Jewish community take a dignified stance. It’s important to accept it’s not a race to the bottom, and both sides are suffering. This constant hate and vilifying of Israel is just making people go the opposite way with their opinions on this situation.

I completely agree with this. He is doing Israel no favours at all. Hateful and spiteful man.
I have both Jewish and Iranian heritage (along with Irish and British!) I am not on any "side" and my family is proof that peace and love can exist beyond territories and boundaries.
Men, puffed up, big men with guns. Playing a real life game of Risk. They need to put their fucking egos down and start talking, for everyones sake.

@BouncebackBetty glad you’re not my sister. Your sister is in a safe room but you think “Israel deserves this”? Another person who cannot see the difference between the State of Israel and an Israeli.

Read my replies. This is precisely what I have been saying.

Many Israelis do not support the current government. Nowhere did I say 'Israel deserves this' You are twisting my words. I said ' It has asked for it ( and yes, i should have been more clear in saying the government) meaning the government has provoked it.

Israels getting what it wants, they've been indirectly attacking Iran for months, the US will join in to support Israel

I hope the UK now actually pushes for peace

Can you explain how Israel have been attacking Iran for months? Just trying to understand this.

Because humans are selfish and the world is broken.

The middle east is always a tinderbox. Lucky so many are safe here. Scary times.

1dayatatime · 14/04/2024 10:09

Question: given that some posters feel that Iran had a right to retaliate against Israel for the attack against the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Would these same posters feel that the US, UK and Jordan should not have interfered with the Iranian attack by shooting down its drones?

Israel has been striking Iran for some time now. Nothing too full-on but enough to cause some damage and also to target certain individuals that Israel wish to kill. It has been happening for years.

MidnightMusing5 · 14/04/2024 10:15

Just like Iraq with its weapons of mass destruction . Any excuse to start a war
