The post I reported repeatedly referred to Jewish settlers and Jewish people.

Got it - thanks. :) With that, I agree.

There is also helping deescalate a situation - Iran retaliated and hopefully, the impact of the retaliation was reduced.

It could have been so much worse if more drones and missiles had got through.
There has been a lot of signalling that something was coming.

Personally I'm hoping that when Israel fires at Iran, the US/UK and others with the capability will also shoot down Israeli missiles. That could possibly lower the temperature.

Doubt that. Guessing it will give US a chance to turn on Iran? Of course, they have armed them behind the scenes, but that’s just making an opportunistic buck. Then most will follow US’s lead.

I doubt it as well.

I wish the UK would stay out of this one.

I wish the UK would stay out of them all, really.

Anonymous2025 · 14/04/2024 12:09

I will openly say on this but in this situation I will stand with Israel and anyone thinking the west will stand with anyone else but Israel is deluded . Even other countries around Israel stand with Israel , Jordan openly said the same , Saudi Arabia shot down drones , I doubt Iraq will have much to do with it . France USA and the U.K. will always come to Israel aid and so will the rest of NATO .
This does not mean I support Israel in the way they are dealing with Palestine or Netanyahu but when push comes to shove , Israel is the only westernised democratic country at the gates of the Middle East , and I’m not sure I want those gates open .
I am trully hoping for a deescalation in the next few days and hoping USA doesn’t use this as a excuse to destroy Iran’s nuclear program and try and deter Iran from building any future nuclear weapons . As for people claiming the new WWIII , saying China will join etc , I find it doubtful China would actively join any war from the Middle East .

I will say one last thing before I leave this thread.

I have the most moderate politics you could imagine. I had a lot of sympathy for the Palestinian cause, and their lack of real choice in leadership and education, and I have never flinched from looking at both sides and saying when I think the Israeli government has been in the wrong and where there have been errors in the past and where they need to step up and be a lot better.

However, having read thousands of posts like yours over the last 6 months, I now fully realise that the level of blatant misinformation and refusal to look at both sides, from 'the other side' is mind boggling.

The inability to have any compassion for the Israeli /Jewish side. The ripped down posters. The whataboutery.
The inability to see that there can be two sides to history and the truth is in the middle.

Posts like yours have led me to see how blinded and full of hate people are. I now believe that there is no hope for peace or justice for the ordinary Palestinians who want to live in peace. The Islamists and the far left /Marxists will never allow it while Israel exists.

There is no hope of a 1 state solution, not that there has ever been hope of that actually working. And no hope of a 2 state solution. There has been too much brainwashing and radicalisation for Israel to be allowed to exist.

I finally have realised in the last 6 months that antisemitism is a real thing, I was always one to deny that and say it was paranoia. And I have realised that Jewish people need to stick together and defend ourselves and how important it is that Israel exists and is strong.

And posts like yours and the earlier post I responded to have played a full part in that. So, congratulations on your part in promoting peace and tolerance.

You are 100% right .

ArchaeoSpy · 14/04/2024 12:32

by the dictionary def its not ww3 or even close

Barbadossunset · 14/04/2024 12:46

The whole region is on the blink of catastrophe because two despotic regimes have been allowed to go too far.

Duckinglunacy Who could - and how - stop it going so far?

The naivety in this thread.

peace means taking sides, it always has. But enjoy your nights sleep saying oh violent men and ohh stay out of it. Men were the canon fodder of two world wars so you post comfortably whilst licking your chops eating on here.

Quite.

And also worth a shout out to the people on the “peace marches” who celebrated the attacks on Israel whilst simultaneously calling for a ceasefire. Makes you think it wasn’t about peace was it?

EsmaCannonball · 14/04/2024 12:48

I look forward to Stop the War and the Ceasefire Now people turning their attentions onto Iran and thousands of people turning out every Saturday to protest Iranian aggression. Because peace is what they want, right? If Hamas was winning the war they'd still want that ceasefire, hmm?

I'm sure if it escalates beyond one attack from Iran in response to an attack from Israel people will march for peace. Nobody wants to see innocent civillians killed no matter their nationality. Right now though all that has happened is posturing. There really isn't anything to march for. If Iran starts occupying Israel, killing over 1% of their population, purposefully starving them and removing all medical care with the support of my government I absolutely would march against it.

Lifesd · 14/04/2024 13:19

@TextureSeeker would you March for the release of the Isreali hostages? Or against what happened on 7/10?

Alexandra2001 · 14/04/2024 13:25

Morning

As posted by me last night, see above - I was almost spot on about one drone getting through

Around 290 drones fired and ten cruise missiles - almost 99% were shot down and landed in open areas and a handful were allowed to land in open areas.

Iran has just proved to the world that it has 5th rate drones and is no match for modern warfare.

Thankfully only one injured a 7 year old school girl by falling deris.

Israel can now strik at Iran with impunity if they wish but the wont but they will take out more leaders

This is the end of this self inflicted humility by Iran

Iran is now officially a lol stock

End

You'll have to tell that to the Iranian backed Houthis, Hezbollah and of course Hamas.

Houthi attacks on Western shipping is causing added inflationary pressures inc forecourt fuel prices, this is going to screw up our recovery from the on-going Ukraine war.

Iran is also very close to having a nuclear weapon, aided by the Russians.

Your optimism is premature.

TextureSeeker · 14/04/2024 13:26

Lifesd · 14/04/2024 13:19

Sure. Marching for a ceasefire means a release of all hostages and an end to all fighting, it should have happened long ago.
I'm not sure about the point of marching against a terrorist attack that happened 6 months ago though, I think the attack on 7/10 has been condenmed widely it hasn't been supported by any Western governments, I'm not sure there is much to march about there?

But the UK is already against Iran and isn't bankrolling it.

MushMonster · 14/04/2024 13:47

There cannot be anything wrong at all in wanting ceasefires, stops to wars and peace talks and sorting things within peace talks and agreements.
Why there are so many people that reacts negatively to a ceasefire petition still baffles me, but here we are.
Peace is for civilians. And this is what most of the world want, see the numbers of people supporting ceasefire petitions. Even when some have faced personal consequences for this.
War seems to be what the governments and military parties closely involved in this want. They want to assert and expand their powers. And they will not think twice of using their own population and others to this end. Also, dividing public opinion is a successful tool, which they all use.

Lets get factual here. Clearly, yes, very clearly I am chatting about last nights drone attacks invited by the Israeli PM, a weak PM in order to remain in power IMO. Iran was always going to escalate this because of that and the weak pm knew that.

In the past, IDF have killed several top genrals/etc belonging to iran without having to attack Irans Embassy.Consulate and that is a fact

Iran has made a fool out of it self as the work can see its barking is much worse than its bite. Iran has a pea-shooter armed forces that are only really capable of attacking via proxies against unamered people

I hope the UK now actually pushes for peace

I'll be sure to explain to my lovely Iranian friends- a family of 4- that when they fled the lovely Islamist regime they were actually fleeing the good guys. They particularly value the explanations they receive from the chattering classes in this country. Keep up the good work

Personally, the UK should not be involved and we'd save hundreds of millions and not be top target for terrorists and Pootin

Number 10 and Co need to shut up and concentrate on England and the NHS waiting lists etc

The ignorance on Iran regime on this thread is astonishing right ?

GoonieGang · 14/04/2024 14:04

I am going out on a limb and putting the blame on Hamas for their initial attack on Israelis.
I also think if Trump was still in power, Putin would not have made a move on Ukraine.

MushMonster · 14/04/2024 14:07

Everything is pointing at Trump's return later in the year.
I do not think he can magically put this one back in the box!
