was that proved? or was it just speculation

Unless those who came into contact with them at that time have for some reason decided to fabricate what was an open secret I dont think there's any doubt about that

Noseybookworm · 11/04/2024 19:04

Good. I'm not a religious person but I hope he's BURNING IN HELL!!!

Who could forget that 911 call that was played at the trial - the absolute terror in Nicole's voice as he tried to smash his way into her house, it was chilling 😢

Oh, I see I have given the benefit of the doubt that @misszebra was ignorant of the facts rather than a knobhead

gettingbackonit23 · 11/04/2024 19:06

Boo hoo what a shame

Flickersy · 11/04/2024 19:09

He did an absolutely atrocious thing, but I do think it's worth bearing in mind that there's a family grieving right now. The only ones who have any right to be celebrating are the Goldmans and the Browns.

SpecialOPs · 11/04/2024 19:19

There was a theory he was covering for his oldest son. Jason, that I read about years ago. Is that what you’re referring to in calling him an Incredible father’ @misszebra? Not sure if it was ever debunked.

TBH there were a lot of disturbing ‘coincidences’ involving Jason from that night if what I read is true - he was annoyed with Nicole, carried knives as a chef, had a temper problem that he was medicated for, wore hats similar to the one found at the scene and had a dog the same colour as the dog hairs on it, called OJ that night, was lawyered up before being interviewed. Theory is the LAPD would not admit they may have been wrong about OJ.

Not defending the man as he was at the very least an abusive, violent scumbag as proven by Nicole’s hospital admission, his first wife claimed he was violent to her too, and the book was in horrendous poor taste but if true about his son, it could be credible.

So many are dancing on this poor mans tombstone before hes even been buried. He was a true icon, and from what I've heard an incredible father. So many years in the court of public opinion, I am sure he is truly at peace now.
I hope none of you ever get wrongly accused of a crime, with the lack of sympathy I have read here.

Good wind up.

MotherOfRatios · 11/04/2024 19:35

I think it's wrong to suggest he wasn't a household name because he certainly was a household name in America maybe not in the UK before the trip but he wasn't America for various reasons.

I am mid 20s and I wasn't born at the time of the trial, but I'm black and having an American father and a British mother the racial dynamics mean I am very aware of the situation.

it sad, especially knowing that they told him to come off his arthritis medication so his hands would swell, so the clothes wouldn't fit.

it's very sad Nicole wasn't believed or protected

They aren't going to read this thread are they?

I don't think either the Brown or Goldman families will be celebrating. Reminded of their losses and sadness, but not celebrating. Those of us who are lucky enough to have survived male domestic violence will be thinking of them, not Simpson's family.

dolphinette · 11/04/2024 19:43

Ding dong the bitch is dead.

mondaytosunday · 11/04/2024 20:10

He was as big as David Beckham during his football career. Huge. He did have all his assets seized when he lost the civil case.
I think they threw the book at him for the kidnapping trail - he got 33 years. I don't understand why he was paroled after only 8 years though..

Accordinf to the radio earlier 33 was the maximum sentence and I think they said 9 was the minimum

Stickyricepudding · 11/04/2024 20:47

Wasn't Kim Kardashian's lawyer father involved in the OJ Simpson case in someway?

Edited

Yes he was one of his lawyers. Kris was a friend of Nicole’s and spent the trial sitting with the prosecution and her family.

Wow.

I remember the car chase & trial clearly. It really was a turning point for the media, for celebrities and for the US legal system. The case blurred the lines between crime & entertainment for the first time & led to a new era of sensationalist 24\7 rolling news.

Simpson proved that if you were famous enough & rich enough to afford the best lawyers it was possible to create a big enough smokescreen by talking about race & identity politics to obscure the actual case evidence and literally get away with murder. Years later Michael Jackson used exactly the same playbook to get acquitted of paedophilia charges. Both were 100% guilty, of course.

KvotheTheBloodless · 11/04/2024 21:15

I wonder if he was ever sorry for what he did - or whether he managed to genuinely convince himself that he was somehow innocent.

pambeesleyhalpert · 11/04/2024 21:17

I'm 32 and know who he is. There was a really good show about his trial but I can't remember the name. Anyway I'm glad he's dead

ThePoshUns · 11/04/2024 21:25

Good riddance to bad rubbish

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 11/04/2024 21:32

I thought I'd read he got away with it because black people in California were anti law enforcement after a police attack on a black man, Rodney King I think. It was filmed and caused riots. The majority black jury supported Simpson, sort of two fingers up to the white establishment. No idea if it is true.

As I remember it, it was understood that if he was found guilty, California would burn.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/04/2024 21:58

Evil bastard who paid his way out of trouble.

My thoughts are with those he murdered.

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/04/2024 22:41

Totally not sad at all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/04/2024 23:37

The prosecution was out-lawyered;
the state didn't put enough resources into the prosecution;
the police screwed up the investigation and mishandled evidence;
police were biased and lied;
racial tensions in LA tainted the jury;
judge Ito allowed the accused to handle the evidence;
and a murderer went free as a result.
