When will the rain stop?

I think we need a new thread everyday on the relentlessness of the rain until we get two dry days, in a row( sorry about the length of the sentence).

OP posts:
CityofRojas · 16/04/2024 18:52

Probably about three days before the hosepipe ban.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2024 18:56

The floods in Dubai are almost biblical, but some is down to cloud seeding apparently. Some of those pics are scary.
My fear is higher food prices with all this and I like it cooler / rainy

JamSandle · 15/04/2024 13:20

April is all about April showers though!

Showers of hail? Two days in a row it’s hailed really heavily here, madness.

I can now currently see blue skies 🤷‍♀️

I've always been a 'there's no such thing as bad weather if you have the right clothing' kind of a person, and my kids are pretty weather proof, but even I've been beaten by this relentless wet. Can't motivate myself to do anything!

lifeparadox333 · 16/04/2024 20:47

@evilharpy I was wondering the same about that too!!! Well I've been doing a lot of reading online about moving to Aus! It's an abs minefield, firstly I don't like their pension scheme it's not great and you'd need at least a 10% better paid job to make it work, need a hell of a lot to get a decentish place out there, renting a property is not easy as they're like rocking horse shit to come by and still need to make some payments towards the healthcare stuff totally dependent on visas so yep looking like we're stuck here in soggy Britain yay! 😭

lifeparadox333 · 16/04/2024 20:48

I've just seen something on Joey Essex 🫣 dare I say 🤣 IG about floods in Dubai! I guess that's not the norm there?! It did look very bad!

Supersimkin2 · 16/04/2024 20:56

Had anyone noticed their weather forecasts are always over-optimistic?

Moody Londoner here. Double-checked, spattering of light rain due, set off at 3.

Shattering thunderstorm by 3:05, rained ice cubes for three hours in blistering wind.

Bugger Apple weather.

lifeparadox333 · 16/04/2024 20:58

@Supersimkin2 I've noticed this since last summer, it's always saying it'll be good when it never is! I stopped planning days out when I realised it felt like it was rigged as I wasted a lot of money booking stuff and couldn't go or went and got soaked! It's dodgy!

I look outside now and gauge it for myself and do stuff on the day but I've not booked anything since last yr over here and glad I haven't as it'd be a waste of money!

lifeparadox333 · 16/04/2024 20:59

Have you all the seen the news about the Floods in Dubai?!? A whole yrs worth of rainfall in a day and more expected! The airport looks like lake Windermere!!!

LaPalmaLlama · 16/04/2024 22:05

The thing about Dubai is they don’t have drains on the roads ( because why would you? - it’s like why Uk doesn’t spend loads of money on snowploughs) so when they do get rain it all just floods and you have to wait for it to go down again. It’s not normally this much at once but I remember road underpasses getting flooded every time it rained there.

lifeparadox333 · 17/04/2024 16:35

@LaPalmaLlama That's a very good point tbh! Couldn't believe the airport tho was so bad!! 😱

GasPanic · 17/04/2024 16:57

Well not today.

There is a low probability of rain in my area on the weekend.

Mairzydotes · 17/04/2024 17:10

I don't think it rained at all where I live yesterday. We've had some showers again today.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 17/04/2024 21:02

Rain all day today again. Starting to believe the conspiracy theorists about weather control and cloud seeding Confused when all the planes were grounded during lockdown the weather was lovely.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 17/04/2024 21:04

JamSandle · 15/04/2024 13:20

April is all about April showers though!

Yeah April showers, as in a shower in between spells of sunshine. Not endless pissing rain. It didn't rain this much in December!

lifeparadox333 · 20/04/2024 06:41

I went in to Morrisons last nt and I don't know if they know something we all don't or they're going to potentially be in for some huge losses but they had tons of the disposeable BBQs as we walked in and the fridge section was full of BBQ food! This is usually the time of yr the weather perks up isn't it but it's so hard to believe when it's still so cold and wet! We had to defrost our cars yesterday morning!!! Fingers crossed we get some sun this wknd because we all need it now it's been too long.

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 20/04/2024 08:18

@lifeparadox333 it's not just Morrisons all the supermarkets and B&M etc. It's the same deal as with clothes..."now it's XX month we must get XX out on the shelves". It goes Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, Mothers Day, Easter, Summer garden/BBQ. Then it's Back to School then Halloween again. At some point near Christmas there is also the Snow Shovel and Toboggan season.
I hate it. I especially hate the way they do it with clothes as well and you can be desperately searching for a winter coat and boots in February but ask you can find is flipping bikinis and flip flops!

And breathe......
Just right now I can see blue sky and fluffy white clouds!

lifeparadox333 · 20/04/2024 09:37

@QuickFetchTheCoffee it's the usual commercial calendar of must get out the stuff at same time if yr but here it's barely 10c so no one will be Bbqing this wknd for sure and it's showing low temps also for nxt 7 days so looks like it'll be on sale by end of nxt wk unless people buy it up to freeze for when it finally warms up, come on sunshine!!!

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 20/04/2024 11:24

Nah, it doesn't go on sale does it? I think they just expect us all to still be barbecuing in the rain 😂in our lovely seasonal swimwear

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 11:30

On some brioche buns in m and s the other day ' get ready for summer' and bbq stuff!
They are ever hopeful

JamSandle · 23/04/2024 09:31

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 17/04/2024 21:04

Having just come back from continental Europe, I am disappointed it's still so gloomy here. I do think that people who are able to emigrate somewhere sunnier should do so, but it's obviously not that simple - at all!

lifeparadox333 · 24/04/2024 23:53

Oh the BBQ marketing is all out in force it's ridic it's practically Baltic outside still!!! Not a chance for at least another 10-15 days if that! My weather apps giving 10-15c temps the next 10 days are they stupid! They def need to stick to the May -Aug period only they must waste so much money!

CosmosQueen · 25/04/2024 05:09

The BBC website long range forecast says it might warm up a bit mid May 🙄, not before.
There are local farmers here who haven’t been able to sow crops that should have been done last autumn so there will be shortages.

lifeparadox333 · 04/05/2024 21:48

@CosmosQueen it's so bad! So many fields out there lying soaked and unproductive and so many farmers struggling it's been a very difficult 8 mths for sure!

IvyIvyIvy · 31/05/2024 12:05

fisherking1 · 10/04/2024 18:29

@cathibiscus Sorry no advice. It really is awful. We have had an awful summer and it has pretty much rained since July. As you say, it is the combination of wet and dark skies.

I love the UK but this is testing me to the limit and my normally stoic DH is eyeing up flats in southern Spain.

Edited

Real cockroach issue out in southern Spain the past few summers due to it being insanely hot and dry for way too long.
