So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

@SoundTheSirens She's allegedly taken money as donations from people on the promise of receiving something and didn't deliver. All while pretending to be this poor, down-on-her-arse saviour. (Changed wording before I get my ass sued).

WimbyAce · 07/04/2024 09:35

I used to go on there before I found mumsnet. Were a couple of threads that I enjoyed regarding "celebs" who do my head in.

It really doesn't matter what you think, "not a proper job". Who cares what your friends and relatives think 😂Why is their opinion so important?

It shouldn’t matter but that’s what a lot of people think like it or not.

And when the bubble bursts they’ll have to get off their arses and get jobs where they do pay tax and NI.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 07/04/2024 09:37

I can’t see the influencer bubble bursting. If anything, it’s growing.

As I said upthread, my niece is a successful influencer. She gets recognised when we go out. Is it a job? Not really, although posting content (all that setting up of the camera to pretend to wake up and get out of bed) takes time.

Is it unethical? Undoubtedly. My niece promotes things she has absolutely no interest in, even food delivery companies she’d never use.

Absolutely everything she does is monetised, but she does pay tax. Of course, she has a savvy accountant, so she pays minimum tax on her 6 figure income. But that’s no worse than the vast proportion of high earners. She should probably declare all the freebies but doesn’t.

She’s 22 years old. Has a degree she’ll never need and is having an absolute ball and becoming seriously wealthy. Good luck to her and all of them, I say.

Why should it matter what anyone thinks? Just thinking that it is not a job, doesn't mean it isn't.

I could think that about a lot of jobs, wouldn't make it true.

If you're pearl clutching at the 'bullying' don't look up Becki Jones then...

That one is particularly vile. She really does nothing wrong except eat. She isn’t hurting anyone and the comments on her Tik Tok let alone Tattle are horrendous.

Hoplolly · 07/04/2024 09:39

A lot of 'influencers' have registered companies filing tax returns, it's all public information, and they do pay tax and NI.

Charlize43 · 07/04/2024 09:40

I found Tattle quite educational revealing many things about Instagram Influencers, the lies they tell, the physically altering filters they use and especially the vile way they exploit their children in adverts to make money.

I do agree that legislation is needed to protect children online and their rights to privacy.

Of course, there are nasty people on Tattle and it can be toxic, but probably about the same as Mumsnet.

AllstarFacilier · 07/04/2024 09:40

Tattle is horrible, full of nasty little trolls who would back down in real life if they saw the person they’re trolling and probably ask for a photo. The people on there are obsessive, they’ll trawl through videos of a YouTuber to rip apart, even if that person uploads daily. The people who post on there must be unwell.

Those TikTok comments are awful. I don't know why she has been targeted like that. Though she seems to brush it off and is using it to her advantage now as the comments = views and engagement = £££.

TheSpoonyNavyReader · 07/04/2024 09:41

I do not post on Tattle and sometimes the posters go over the line.

However, the PTWM thread is eye opening, the way she has conned people, wrote 3 books on how terrible her step sons mother is while saying she supports the very women like her step sons mother. The constantly asking for donations, the Paypal scam, the pay per view of her life. Using her kids sex lives as content. PTWM sent me over to tattle with her crying about trolls.

It was eye opening.

Until reading this, I didn't know that Stacey Solomon's older children live away from the rest of them.

Of course instagram reality is completely manufactured. As the whole 8 Passengers thing shows.

Edited

Absolutely - if it’s all to be believed, there’s the Patreon offering rewards that never materialise, the Kickstarter book saga that apparently took years to publish a lesser-quality version of a book published in the meantime under a publishing house label, the donations reported to have gone straight to her PayPal for a court case that never happened and is now timed out from starting…she’s exceptionally good at raising money for her favourite cause, you have to give her that.

She doesn’t let it stop her and more power to her.

I can't understand people getting worked up about influencers. They are only influencers because people (you) are watching them and talking about them. If you don't like them the best thing is to switch them off.

What I do have a problem with is multi level marketing. That is a scam and has people calling themselves global business coaches when they are really exploiting vulnerable and often unwitting mothers who have no idea that they are just fodder to feed the pyramid scheme.

Actually you’re right there. MLM is far worse.

I once made friends with an Arbonne rep (she was actually at a pub music gig where I was) and she targeted me. I met her boss, went along to one of the recruiting events and quite soon saw it was MLM. So I distanced myself. I know of several friends and a cousin who’ve done this briefly as it looks like an easy money spinner.

I don’t actually watch instagrammers or bloggers. The only one I do have an issue with (check my PP’s if you’re interested) is one ex friend/acquaintance who’s now travel blogger and I think is going into influencing and from what I’ve heard does think she’s some sort of celeb in her own mind and world. Which is great but then to accuse someone who’s known you for years of stalking you because you think you’re important, is to my mind, unhinged. So that’s why I’m not keen on them as it can make some people’s minds and lives full of themselves and the drama around it.

It’s why Katie Price, Kerry Katona etc are “famous”, because they publicise their lives. I actually quite like Kerry after I saw her ripped to bits by Philip Schofield and Holly W on this morning when she was quite clearly on her meds for bi polar and they were trying to twist the story.

That is surprising. Thought she’d want them with her.

I sometimes go on there to read about The Radfords. They can be mean bit some is justified. I don't like it when personal re the way the little kids look. I don't post

Exactly. Even though I don't like or follow influencers, I can understand their point of view far more than I can understand that of some of their followers. Influencers are just trying to make money in a way which they presumably prefer to a regular job. Fair enough. Followers who have parasocial relationships with a succession of random grifters whom they idolise, then bitch about? They're the crazy ones.

I'm pretty sure that Tattle will now delete posts that say mean things about minors? It is definitely in the rules now.

Max28W · 07/04/2024 09:50

The issue here is lack of any regulation of the 'influencer' role in society today. Tattle exists because it is filling a discourse gap...so you get everyone on that site contributing to the conversation and some in not very helpful ways, some are bullying and way over the top, some are common-sense opinions.

I struggle to understand how the same rules that apply to kids in the performance industry don't apply to online influencing accounts ?

How the same rules about unauthorised advertising in performances on TV in theatre are not applied consistently in the online space?

There are some very dark things that have come to light ...that no-one can do anything about in regard to safeguarding children's images online (timestamps, influencer created open mouthed images of their kids, seo with weird titles like 'teens first time') .

Until our archaic government catches up with all this and there is a proper debate about it within society ...sites like Tattle will continue to exist. It's not ok we should be having conversations about this at a higher level.

I know an influencer of a similar age and hugely syccessful, can’t say who she is because it’s not right but she’s been on reality tv.

She owns a swanky flat (mortgaged) and has done well for herself but also has a drink problem and her next thing is chasing the next money/fame opportunity. She’s actually lovely but her dad (I like him and he’s an old friend) is very questionable and she’s actually a bit unstable herself. Living your best life and having a ball is great but you need to think long term too and watch out for the pitfalls.

And a lot don’t! I know personally of a few who don’t and boast about it.

How’s that any different from a lot of people? Tradies, big corporations, self employed fitness instructors, beauty therapists, psychics, MLMs, declutterers, models, actors, TV presenters.

This behaviour isn’t restricted to influencers, it’s all over the place. I don’t particularly ‘get it’ but I don’t get a lot of things, bongo bingo, bottomless brunch, take that, Taylor swift, ‘tweakments’ - they’re still a ‘thing’.

Icantbedoingwithit · 07/04/2024 09:54

SEN kids or any kids for that matter should not be peddled out for views especially as a clapback when you have been called out for doing something shady to garner sympathy. These kids can’t consent. It’s vile and manipulative behaviour and should be called out.

Was it Constance Hall, the lass with loads of kids?
When I used fb loads of the quirky school mums shared her posts and I found from what I read lots of the posts were actually absolving parents from parenting under the guise of "being human" etc, sat uncomfortably with me. Of course we all make mistakes and fuck up but we shouldn't have that as our standard day because we're human 🙈

No, I don't know her. Emmylou Loves. She screeches BoPo but send out very mixed messages and poor children looks so unloved and unhappy.
