So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

There’s an ‘influencer’ at DC’s school. Her DH has left her after he disagreed with putting their entire life online (not that she has acknowledged this online, her ‘brand’ is happy families’) and her kids don’t get asked on play dates as no-one trusts her not to film, as she’s done so in the past. Her huns comment about her amazing life, in reality she can’t look anyone in the eye at drop off, she doesn’t seem to have any friends, her DH is living with her DM so they’re not impressed either.

All for a few free trips to farm parks and hello fresh discount codes (that anyone gets?) and ‘PR invites’ to envelope openings.

She’s on tattle and it’s clear people who know her post on it. Why anyone puts themselves up for this is a mystery.

I also think it’s gross to monetise your children online - in regulated industries like theatre or TV children are now protected - there’s nothing to protect them from being exploited.

i mean, I’ve seen people post videos of their babies sucking fingers or their little girls doing cartwheels knowing full well it’s being saved thousands of times by perverts. One dad influencer refused to remove a video after hundreds of comments people warned him what was happening and he said “not taking it down as the more they (the pervs) like the video the more I get paid”.

MississippiAF · 07/04/2024 09:20

I hope all the children of instafloggers who’ve had their whole childhood plastered all over the internet for gratuitous clicks grow up and sue their parents.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/04/2024 09:20

It sounds awful. I'm no fan of influencers, but why do they need 'holding to account' unless they are doing something actually fraudulent or illegal? If you choose to follow these people and are naïve enough to assume that they and their lifestyles are all as they appear on Instagram, that's your own silly fault. Frothing and bitching about it online seems pretty pathetic tbh.

That’s disgusting if she can’t be trusted not to film other people’s kids on play dates. That’s partly the issue with grammars and bloggers, they believe their own hype.

This one woman I know, her new DH loves to travel. Good for her, she didn’t do it much before especially when her DC were young so it’s good she can do it now. Now someone’s obvs told her she can do this as a side line so she does, and most of her stories were ok but a bit bland and samey. However she’s now gone down the rabbit hole of dressing and acting like other bloggers and I swear she thinks she’s someone simply because some of her life is on insta.

Couldn’t agree more. This is exactly why no one is friends with her.

Nw22 · 07/04/2024 09:21

I’ve briefly seen it and I cant bring myself to care about comments about pathetic influencers.

PaulAnkaTheDoggo · 07/04/2024 09:21

What I have found, and why I don’t think I could join, is some of the threads start informative, then when things die down a bit it just becomes personal insults about the person. Comments on personal appearance, rehashing everything from before, until the individual does something again that they can complain about. It truly is a nest of vipers. But incredibly addictive reading. The Harry and Meghan threads are delusional though. Alice Evans interesting and filled with useful information not reported in the Daily Mail. The Taylor Swift ones, I think even as a rave thread they won’t be able to help themselves and it’ll become a massive pile on eventually. It’s actually quite interesting seeing the same posters stick to the same threads, mental how many some of them post though, seem to be online all the time.

A lot of people tax dodge from it too. Don’t try to defend your ‘job’ sweetie!

A lot of cleaners tax dodge. Still a job.

That is absolutely vile and shows what’s wrong with the world today. That man would be the first on tv if his DD is kidnapped and harmed by a murderer/paedophile.

Cleaners perform an invaluable function.

Vacuous social media whores do not.

Anxiouslump · 07/04/2024 09:23

Oh yes it is a super nasty place. They are horrible about a young foster carer / new mother that I casually follow too. Definitely bullying.

Icantbedoingwithit · 07/04/2024 09:23

It is a job of sorts I suppose but the bubble will burst, it’s waning as it is. It’s easy money. A lot of the time unethical. You are paid by views and selling tat to people waffling about how good it is. There are some great Tik Tokkers however who raise awareness about important topics and are not trying to direct you to their Tik Tok shop.

Axcording to a post I did yesterday cleaners don’t do cash in hand anymore and don’t tax dodge. So which is it?

They’re in advertising. Still a job. Whether you approve of the job or not.

Crunchymum · 07/04/2024 09:26

Just been over to have a peek and it's not very user friendly? (although I find the format of both X and Instagram not very user friendly)

I found MN as it was slated on another website. I came over for a look and never left but can't see me having the same problem with Tattle.

And not being able to join? WTF is that about?

babyproblems · 07/04/2024 09:27

I think tattle is bullying and the lowest of the low. It just showcases the worst part of social media imo. People’s behaviour on there is awful; and tbh I have read it a couple of times and both times wondered how much free time those people have to have such deep views on other people’s lives! Mumsnet obviously also an online forum but much more lighthearted and imo not comparable. I can well imagine tattle threads leading to self harm and serious mental health crises in the people that are being ‘discussed’ on there.

Sunquest · 07/04/2024 09:27

At least you can disagree on MN. The Tattle lot have to go over to the Tattle Reddit sub to slag each other off.

They 100% do. Not all. But many do. My own cleaner will only accept cash. Cannot imagine why.

Jobs aren't defined by whether they are useful or we could strike off lots of occupatikns

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/04/2024 09:13

Oh come on. It isn’t really. Not a proper job!

Most of my friends and relatives if I’ve ever bothered mentioning it to them do not think it’s a proper job. Sorry to disappoint you.

It really doesn't matter what you think, "not a proper job". Who cares what your friends and relatives think 😂Why is their opinion so important?

If you choose to follow these people and are naïve enough to assume that they and their lifestyles are all as they appear on Instagram, that's your own silly fault. Frothing and bitching about it online seems pretty pathetic tbh.

Here’s an example from a few years ago (this will probably get taken down because she periodically searches her own name on SM, but here goes):

J-a-c-k M-o-n-r-o-e, despite having been paid tens of thousands of £££ by her own admission in the months immediately preceding, made several carefully-worded posts on Twitter to give the impression she couldn’t afford to buy a £20 shopping trolley. A woman who Tattlers on the JM thread quickly identified (from the lady’s other tweets) as being a pensioner on the breadline herself, donated £20 to JM out of her Winter Fuel Allowance to buy it.

It’s an open secret JM reads her own Tattle thread (she even joined in once) so without breaking the Tattle rule of taking it to the subject’s own SM, Tattlers absolutely excoriated her in their posts, spelling out how immoral it was that her poverty cosplay was conning people substantially poorer than her into donating to her ever-open, ever-rattling “tip jar”. JM claimed shortly afterwards she had repaid the woman her £20.

Without that clamour on Tattle, she’d have happily pocketed that money from a well-meaning but naive follower.

Dollenganger333 · 07/04/2024 09:31

I can't understand people getting worked up about influencers. They are only influencers because people (you) are watching them and talking about them. If you don't like them the best thing is to switch them off.

What I do have a problem with is multi level marketing. That is a scam and has people calling themselves global business coaches when they are really exploiting vulnerable and often unwitting mothers who have no idea that they are just fodder to feed the pyramid scheme.

As you can't possibly know the payment preference of every single cleaner what validity does a random post you made have?

We can all post anything we like, doesn't make it true

monicagellerbing · 07/04/2024 09:32

If you're pearl clutching at the 'bullying' don't look up Becki Jones then...
