So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

I’ve recently discovered Tattle. I’ve not signed up (nor will I) but I admit I like the fact you can comment negatively on someone you don’t like and not get piled on for it.

I'm not an influencer - not sure why you're talking to me as if I am 😂.

Why are you defending it as being a job then?!

valensiwalensi · 07/04/2024 08:54

I think its a mixed bag

if you are going to monetise your social media then you should be held accountable and fair game to criticism - you are NOT allowed to comment on people’s social media pages - that’s against the rules. If people decide to read about themselves that’s on them.

however there are some pages that for me are just way way too far and just nasty for nasty sake like Bekki Jones.

Blankspace35 · 07/04/2024 08:57

I love tattle. I go on here and there. I absolutely love the eastenders thread. And how you can discuss ‘influencers’ and their general begginess. I looking forward to the fall of influencers. They only influence me to not buy from the companies sending them free stuff all the time

Dollenganger333 · 07/04/2024 08:58

There are lots of jobs I don't agree with but they are still jobs.

shoppingshamed · 07/04/2024 08:59

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/04/2024 08:35

A lot of people tax dodge from it too. Don’t try to defend your ‘job’ sweetie!

What an odd comment, there are tax avoiders in all kinds of jobs but that doesn't negate the fact that they are jobs and are done equally by people who do pay tax.

And who says 'sweetie" ?

Dollenganger333 · 07/04/2024 09:00

And who says 'sweetie" ?

Someone who posts more on Tattle than they do on MN 🙃

justasking111 · 07/04/2024 09:03

Seriously though surely there's more to it than attacking influencers. Some attackers maybe rivals.

I like Instagram it's a mixed bag. I don't follow home makers though.

You said she deserves it, you just tried to hide that judgement under a veneer of I’m a nice person. You failed. She doesn’t deserve it.

Never said I was a nice person 😎and I'm not hiding any judgement, I totally judge her!

I don’t actually but… well not anymore.

Yes we could all bang on about Starbucks and Amazon and Mr Bloggs in the high street not paying taxes but influencers and bloggers grind some people’s gears because they appear to sit on their arses posting tat and probably don’t declare their earnings for tax.

I appreciate this post makes me sound more invested than I am which I really am not! Honest guv.

Yes, that the problem with social media - the influencers and their audience can use it very effectively to bully people into shutting up when they might have valid points or questions.

Like I remember when I was on Twitter Jack Monroe had a go at some guy (who made a questionable comment, but it wasn't abusive, he was a poor communicator), and swarms of her followers descended to give him absolute shit. It was only when it was pointed out to her that the guy was in a care-home with some learning difficulties (if I recall correctly), that she apologised. But no-one should get dog-piled, with it condoned by their great leader 🙄

But honestly social media often sickens me with how sycophantic and fawning it is - all these people posting effusive praise for very little and sometimes the downright stupid, as if the person can do or say no wrong and is made of unicorn shit.

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/04/2024 09:07

No - not just influencers @ShiteRider

I never looked at any threads except the Jack Monroe ones and the Harry and Meghan ones.

I don't watch any influencers and wouldn't know who they were talking about.

They didn't give Jack Monroe the lickings of a dog, and IMO she deserved it. I haven't been on for about 5-6 months though (computer problem when I accessed the site, for some reason) and have no idea what's happening now.

I might pop back.

So theres no way i can ever join? Just got to lurk in the shadows forever ha ha x

They do open membership sometimes. I lurked for months then saw some new members and managed to join while it was open.

ButtercupFlower · 07/04/2024 09:07

It’s a really awful place - I’ve seen friends mentioned on there in such an awful way that it made me feel sick.

Hoplolly · 07/04/2024 09:09

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/04/2024 08:54

Because it IS a job?

Icantbedoingwithit · 07/04/2024 09:09

It can be vicious at times . I don’t agree with pulling people down over their looks but there are a few questionable influencers on there whose actions are called out and rightly so including one Scottish one who is an absolute melt, has done some awful things, peddles her SEN child for views and tells the most way out lies all the time. In those cases it’s justified imo.

Otherstories2002 · 07/04/2024 09:10

Hoplolly · 06/04/2024 22:29

It's brutal, but in the case of Knee Deep...fuck me. Have some dignity. She has opened herself up to it. Not saying she deserves it, but if you put it out there. I feel for her kids I really do.

If you put what out where? You deserve what…? Please do expand because I cannot see this going anywhere acceptable.

I’ve seen a friend of mine’s daughter on there, her dad is a photographer and has a drink problem caused by a traumatic death in his childhood, his daughter is ripped to pieces on there and I don’t know her that well now but she’s a fairly harmless young woman in her early 20s. I’d probably do what she does if I were her age.

I'm not an influencer I'm a social worker but I can agree it's a job. They work, they get paid. It's a stupid job but it's a job. Many jobs are stupid and unethical but they are still jobs.

MississippiAF · 07/04/2024 09:12

There’s an ‘influencer’ at DC’s school. Her DH has left her after he disagreed with putting their entire life online (not that she has acknowledged this online, her ‘brand’ is happy families’) and her kids don’t get asked on play dates as no-one trusts her not to film, as she’s done so in the past. Her huns comment about her amazing life, in reality she can’t look anyone in the eye at drop off, she doesn’t seem to have any friends, her DH is living with her DM so they’re not impressed either.

All for a few free trips to farm parks and hello fresh discount codes (that anyone gets?) and ‘PR invites’ to envelope openings.

She’s on tattle and it’s clear people who know her post on it. Why anyone puts themselves up for this is a mystery.

Hoglet70 · 07/04/2024 09:13

I love Tattle, it's great entertainment. Anyone who puts their whole life in the public eye has to expect it to be commented on and some of these Insta-Mums are bloody awful and need a massive wake up call to the potential damage they are doing to their poor kids.

Also anyone that pretends Mumsnet isn't absolutely brutal on occasions can't be reading it properly.

Hoplolly · 07/04/2024 09:09

Because it IS a job?

Oh come on. It isn’t really. Not a proper job!

Most of my friends and relatives if I’ve ever bothered mentioning it to them do not think it’s a proper job. Sorry to disappoint you.

Ok beg to differ. It’s a stupid and unethical job.

Like I said before I think the blogger/grammer bubble is set to burst soon anyway.

Disappoint? Are you and your mates the arbiters of what is and isn't a job? Nobody is disappointed that you don't agree with them.
