So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 06/04/2024 22:19

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

What an odd assortment of reactions. The OP was generalizing and virtue signalling about "ooh, how nasty those people on Tattle are." Of the thousands of people who post there, some are mean. Others are quite compassionate. Just like here. It's a gossip site. What did you expect?

I haven't explored Tattle. I stay on one popular thread that is devoted to one grifter who is a compulsive liar unable to keep her lies straight (which is how it was discovered that she was a grifter). The thread is a lot slower since the grifter pretty much disappeared after being definitively exposed, but I still check in regularly, because the posters on that thread can make me howl with laughter. No one is bullying or abusing the grifter. No one is reaching out to her. No one is sending her messages, and no one has been "banned" for doing so. No one told this grifter (who regularly used to make it clear that she read Tattle obsessively) to go there and read about herself. We are laughing at an inept minor crook who put herself ALL over social media, and tried to put herself all over TV, and was hoist by her own petard. She lied and lied and lied and got caught. And frankly, it's hilarious. Fin.

Some Tattlers ought to cover their digital footprint more carefully before they ridicule and bitch about unsuspecting members of the public, specifically on the Popsy threads. One bully in particular is a primary school teacher. I wonder what the staff and parents would say if they found out?

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 20:43

@SpareOne

Who? Is it Rebecca Meldrum?

Probably not a lot!!

Doubt tattle is even on the radar for most

That sounds weirdly like a threat. And like something er, bullying and abusive. And obsessive. But here we are on mumsnet, not Tattle! Go figure.

EdnaAlGaib · 07/04/2024 20:55

I used to find tattle quite amusing but I think it’s getting quite boring now, just desperately searching for new people to attack. The last straw for me was when they decided a woman who’d come on mumsnet looking for support while her daughter was gravely ill was ‘a grifter’ - despite no evidence of that at all - and even when the daughter died they still wouldn’t let it go, even to the extent of finding the funeral notice for the daughter - duh, that proves the story was real then doesn’t it? - and then because it asked for donations to the hospital that treated her it was used as proof that the whole thing had been made up to make money. For a hospital.

I appreciate not all on tattle are awful but there are some I really think are a bit unhinged.

I'd disgree that I was virtue signalling, I'd only read the one thread about KDIL and I'd challenge anyone to read that and say it was anything else than bullying like her or not. I mean the title is literally this "Skanky Belbin what a pig, begging idiots to go to her gig."

That said I've had a look at other threads and there are indeed some very funny posters on there and the tone is very different. Much like Reddit and MN

The 'wiki' sections are eye opening - particularly with regard to Sali Hughes and Jack Monroe.

Breaktimebitches · 07/04/2024 21:08

I think much of what is discussed on Tattle is fair. I think people are putting themselves up for that sort of scrutiny and I think in the case of the ‘Sharenting’ influencers, the threads are often talking about the well-being of these kids. Remember, this area of social media is unregulated and many of the children are too young to express an opinion about what is posted.

A PP said it’s just a hobby for most of these vloggers, it’s not a hobby, it’s a full time job and there isn’t always transparency about #ADs and #gifted and they are being paid for plugging products or getting a cut of commission with followers using their codes.

Tattle is holding up a light to these influencers and I think that personal insults aren’t on, questioning the motives and well-being of the children is reasonable.

I agree that there are many people who blog for nefarious reasons and don’t declare the relationships they have with advertisers, however going after, for example, people who put their photos on the mumsnet style and beauty board and discussing their camel toes seems a bit beyond the pale. I do wonder what the point of that is supposed to be.

Indeed, that's a fairly gross thread title.

NotGoingToLie · 07/04/2024 21:40

There are some appalling parents out there doing dubious things in plain sight. I am thankful for Tattle for bringing to light the hideous antics of the likes of the Saccone Jolys and how they have exploited their poor children.

That sounds like something the delightful doxxer on Instagram would say. Almost painfully pathetic.

PriscillaPresssley · 07/04/2024 22:08

I think the reason I like Tattle is that I read more of the off topic and general sections, and I find those very different to here.

The replies when someone is struggling tend to be supportive and helpful, whereas I would be shite scared to post a problem on here as someone immediately picks up on some irrelevant background issue to lambast you with.

Yes Tattles celeb and influencer sections can be brutal if hilarious but they do seem to be a supportive community to each other, you do get good folk here of course but I find it to be a bit mean girl vibe.

Jeez the person who mentioned the princess of Wales there should take a look at the comments here!

To be fair that thread was also mentioned on Reddit. It wasn’t just Tattle.

I don't care what teachers do in their personal life (within reason) and that extends to make cutting comments on Tattle. Many of us have opinions on celebs, whether online or chatting to friends, and it's not that different to MN as a forum. The influencers no doubt hate it when people point out their lies but that's on them.

The thread I'm on has recently celebrated two newborns, supported several posters going through different stages of cancer and shared stories about their SEN experiences. Some posters are very funny and, like MN, I ignore any posters that take it too far. There is also a lot of support and sympathy for the influencer in question's two young sons who've had no say in being performing puppets.

BeretRaspberry · 07/04/2024 23:53

I’ve just skim read the last thread on PTWM - she’s someone I had my eyes opened to. She’s just shared, for everyone to see, a report on her 15 year old daughter’s autism diagnosis. That’s now on the internet forever, for everyone, including the child’s peers to see. It’s sickening. This is the sort of thing that really needs regulating.

Squirre · 08/04/2024 02:57

I don't follow the influencer threads as it's not something I'm interested in but I do like reading some of the off topic threads on tattle. Influencers are in that funny middle ground of being public figures but not celebrities in the traditional sense. Those threads seem more like bitchy gossiping than bullying (with ofc the exceptions you get in every public forum) but like others have said this kind of thing does allow genuine issues (misleading ads/grifting etc) to be discussed as well. Imo its not a bad thing for there to be scrutiny where children are involved and the influencer is selling a lifestyle/products etc. Nasty comments aren't exclusive to tattle. You could pick any random AIBU thread to show you that. Mumsnet/tattle/reddit etc all moderate in different ways and have different priorities. I don't think any are purely bad or perfect.

Oh no, if my child’s teacher had been slagging off someone on the internet they didn’t like, on an annoy mouse forum, that the person didn’t have to read. I’d be straight on to the governors to get them sacked. How dare they have an opinion on something!

Oh wait….. I‘m not a wanker.

I don’t give a shit.

Fucks sake, really? Don’t be daft. It’s not like they are sticking shit though letterboxes.

I fucking hate Ryan Gosling. His eyes are too close together and he gives me the creeps. I guess I should go and hand in my notice now I’ve said that on the internet.

She’s disgusting for doing that. Absolutely no need, other that to increase engagement for herself.

”Raising awareness” my arse. Could you imagine being a teenager and having your private medical information all over the internet? That child isn’t old enough to consent to that.

Despicable.

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 08/04/2024 06:54

This was actually the last time I read Father of Daughters (not that I was ever a huge follower ) when his daughter was diagnosed with T1 diabetes and seemingly the first thing he did was put it up on Instagram for his followers to see under the guise of ‘spreading awareness’. I mean maybe his daughter was on board as she’s a bit older but I can’t imagine having a child with such a life changing situation and the first thing you can think to do is get it on the internet.

But that’s how they live.

Always looking for potential content. Everything is fair game to them. He was probably already thinking up the instagram caption as the dr was giving the diagnosis.

The site is brutal

Sometimes I go for a read of threads if the show is on but it's never nice and I leave

The radfords and cassey Clark are horrid

The comments and names they get called and their kids

I tend to avoid tbh

Tho seems you can't link threads on here

I rem sometime last year , I put a link up for a tattle thread about radfords on the post on here - and my post imm got deleted and think said check guidelines or something similar

OpheliaLibra · 08/04/2024 08:13

Longtime Tattle lurker and, I’ll admit, I’m waiting for the next open registration to finally post. Personally, I find most threads there are like anywhere else where people have opinions, some being more extreme than others.

But if you’re ever looking for why some feel the way they do, their wikis are amazing, i.e., on the Alice Evans thread.
