So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

But who is tattling under their real name?

There are several people who post with identifiable usernames, for example KatieK1990 - could be a woman called Katie or Kathryn born in 1990. Probably a man called Kevin though, to be fair GrinThen people post all kinds of information about themselves, where they live, where they work, they upload photos of their pets and forget to crop them, or they'll upload facebook or twitter posts with their username on display. That seems to be how the doxxer manages to find out everything about certain posters and that's why I'm glad Mumsnet has the name changing facility.

ArrrMeHearties · 07/04/2024 17:09

I love reading tattle. It is better than here I'd say as there is no pearl clutching and people can be adults about what they post

This thread inspired me to have a look, haven’t been on it for ages.

I’ve been laughing so much DH is asking what I’m looking at. I forgot how witty tattlers are.

What happened with Simon Harris? He's that bloke that does charity fundraisers all the time like for the RNLI, isn't he?

I think this explains it. I was shocked.

ChorltonsWheelies · 07/04/2024 17:35

The book threads are great and the Literary Luvvies one give me a laugh too. Some of the threads are awful, yes, but also there isn’t the contrariness and nitpicking of here - people looking for support are treated far less callously.

Pippa246 · 07/04/2024 17:55

@Chunkycookie - yeah I know. Ironically she was asked to go into a school to give a talk about Internet safety! It’s just such an alien way to live to me - it was on another thread here a few weeks back but I think lots of so called influencers will look back in horror at what the put online about their DC in particular.

Ellysa · 07/04/2024 17:57

I thought you meant Tatler 😂

No idea what Tattle is, sounds crap.

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 18:01

Well can't be that 'crap' considering the amount of mumsnetters begging for codes so they can post on it!!

loropianalover · 07/04/2024 18:06

Theres always a few that take it too far on the Tattle threads and ruin everything. I don’t mind scoffing at shit Instagram ads or lamenting that an influencer got yet another free holiday but there always has to be a few that bulldoze in and talk about calling child services and saying (with NO proof) that they believe X claims benefits, cheats on their spouse blah blah blah. They’re always there within seconds/minutes of the influencer posting as well, it’s an obsession.

I hate that you can’t say something simple like ’oh her wedding dress is actually nice’ or you get lambasted with ‘she’s a cow she’s rotten I wouldn’t wipe my floor with that’.

dutysuite · 07/04/2024 18:06

I like Tattle. Influencers don’t like it because it exposes them. I don’t like knee deep in life’s content…someone announcing to her followers that her “minge stinks” is not my cup of tea.

whynotwhatknot · 07/04/2024 18:11

ah i dont want to get anyone in trouble woll just be a viewer for now

anyone know how often they let people join?

Justgorgeous · 07/04/2024 18:16

Never heard of it but I did hear some women talking about Naomi Banjo the other day and they seem to think she is featured quite heavily on there. I think she is a dancer’s wife.

Omg, she’s broken every internet safety rule in the book 🤣🤣

Eurgh. Who said that?

I read Stacey Solomon talking about driving round Scotland with a campervan full of poo and it put me right off my cornflakes Grin They'd gone on holiday, all 7 of them, in a relatively little campervan, so I would imagine the chemical toilet was pretty fusty after short while.

‘That you Liz?’

Standard shit for brains Tattle response.

I see that said on MN so you're also slagging off posters here.

Pretty standard MN one, too, to be fair.

ginandbearit · 07/04/2024 19:06

What you do get on Tattle which you don't seem to on here is forensic dissection of dishonest money grabbing behaviour from bloggers and the many life coaches etc who prey on vulnerable women (mostly) . Yes the mlm threads highlight the scams and pitfalls but Tattle really gives a good searchlight to the dubious practices and values these people have . The relentless exposure of Sarah Akwisombe's failure to deliver the goods with her coaching courses was brilliant to see and warned off potential buyers .

It doesn't.

And I think something needs to happen to protect children, to give them rights to their privacy, when they have parents that will exploit them for money and clicks.

But if there's nowhere you can voice your doubts or disapproval of people's behaviour isn't that problematic too? I mean you've got someone on this thread saying their influencer-relative promotes products they would never use, you've got this Simon Harris guy whose shenanigans seem shady from that news article, you've got people who ask small businesses for discounts in exchange for reviews and if refused then do hatchet jobs on them, you've got bullshit and misinformation. It's not all harmless guff that should be passed over.

I don't agree with people ripping the shit out of others for their appearance, but there's got to be some balance between that and just "being kind" and looking the other way.

whiteferrari · 07/04/2024 19:40

Sleepydoor · 07/04/2024 15:06

The difference is that on mumsnet you'll have posts on the same thread telling off the posters ripping the celebrities to shreads, but on tattle those posts will get deleted for tone policing.

The reason for that is because tattle has rave threads too. So if you like a certain celebrity/influencer then you comment/post in their rave thread.

Mumsnet don’t have dedicated threads for people. That’s why you’ll get a mix of opinions/likes/dislikes.

BlancheSaysYes · 07/04/2024 19:43

There's not a choice between Mumsnet or Tattle. Both can coexist peacefully alongside each other. I'm pretty sure most of us have accounts on both forums.

I think this is the truth. They fulfill different purposes and Tattle tends to trollhunt in a way that isn’t allowed on Mumsnet. I know they’ve spoken about me in the past (as have some others), but I’ve reached the point where I understand and I don’t blame them - if you thought someone was lying on the internet, especially if you thought they were lying about being sick or about dying, especially if you’d lost someone, of course you’d hate them or mock them or be angry as fuck. If you thought some celebrity influencer on Instagram was taking advantage of people and we all know someone who’s been taken advantage of, or even just had our goodwill taken advantage of, then it makes sense you’re going to pick them apart and/or be angry at them. And for the most part, the people on Tattle are witty about it.

And just like Mumsnet, there are areas where users support each other, which is a good thing. Do I love their tone sometimes? Maybe not, but my opinion doesn’t matter - the site users are the ones who decide and just like Mumsnet, or Reddit, or Netmums, or anywhere else, it’s just a forum where the users make it what they want it to be.

Wonderfulstuff · 07/04/2024 20:06

The worst thing you can be on Tattle is fat/anything other than a size 8... which is pretty similar to MN tbh.

That said some of the stuff on Tattle is fair e.g. not declaring ads, people exploiting their kids etc but some of it is vile especially when they turn on kids calling them ugly etc. I know it wouldn't happen without the influencer posting content of their kids but still crosses a line for me.
