So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

I love tattle.

i have two influencer friends. One has over 1m instagram followers. Both pretty big in that world. Neither has a thread on tattle. They’re both just nice girls showing the clothes they like off. Aren’t insane with ads and when they do, they’re genuine. They’ve both been at it a few years but to me it shows that Tattle don’t start on people for no reason. It’s not jealousy or just a need for hatred. The bad / “vile” comments are often deserved when you see how deceived you’ve been by some people.

I’d say posting an old photo is one thing but posting a copy of someone’s earnings from companies house is quite another …

What about a teenager with a developmental delay posting videos of herself dancing on tik tok? Is that a guys enough reason to start on someone? To the extent that she’s suicidal? I mean, she’s putting herself out there so deserves it after all

I like it. It gives space to vent about horrible people.

I live near an influencer- absolutely awful woman who pimps out her children on the internet. But saying what I want to say about her locally / in the school playground (kids in same school) would cause distress for her children. And they have enough of that. She's a neglectful, narc of a parent too. So having a space to vent helps.

It does go too far. But it's a part of the world created by the moral vacuum of the influencers themselves.

I can relate to this completely. The difference being, where I am, all the school mums are in awe of this influencer and blow smoke up her arse 24/7. Sometimes it's nice to see that not everyone falls for this fake guff and nonsense.

No it’s not.

The rule of tattle is it can only be people who monetise social media.

There isn’t enough protection for those with development/learning delays or mental health issues using social media.

blue345 · 07/04/2024 12:35

I think we'll look back at this time and be surprised social media promotions weren't more regulated. You're selling something, fair enough, but there's so many undisclosed ads or ad written in a tiny white font tucked away so you can't see it. If you're persuading people to buy a product, be honest and say you've been paid to promote it rather than pretending otherwise. Ditto for selling makeup using a filter on the video so you look like a Disney princess not a real human being.

I genuinely think some people think influencers are their friends rather than sales people. They build a community which isn't wrong in itself but it can start to become a bit cult-like where there's a massive pile on if someone dares to criticise their idol and don't get me started on be kind.

But the part that scares me is the use of their children. They're not old enough to consent yet I've seen one influencers' kids on the loo, in the bath, they've shared their private medical diagnoses, where they go to school. I couldn't sleep at night knowing that I've monetised my kids' privacy, let alone those that will sadly alter and use the photos for nefarious means, and I think this should be more tightly regulated.

BlancheSaysYes · 07/04/2024 12:37

I like the Stacey Solomon real body reel on Instagram, from yesterday, I think, where she shows that, despite looking slim and petite and toned, she still has wobbly bits like most of us. I shall have to see what the Tattle lot on her thread over there think about it. I think she'll get slated whatever she does, because she's an ordinary girl who has made an extraordinary amount of money, and appears to live a charmed life.

Well, maybe you should take that up with the government 🤣

Thanks for answering.

I also don’t use SM enough to care for all these smaller random people.

There’s rules such as 1) account can’t be private - so if you have 10m followers but are private only, you can’t have a thread 2) minimum number of followers and then the monetisation aspect.

They don’t pick on kids 🙄

anyway, I only read the Molly Mae thread and as a parent I’d be more concerned about her influence on your kids, because they are awful people.

Moveoverdarlin · 07/04/2024 12:42

I quite like it, although I haven’t been on for a while. Some posters on there are very witty. There was a few influencers I used to follow and they went from being nice, relatable women, to Uber wealthy, buying Aston Martin’s, reviewing handbags that cost 6 grand and I just thought it was all so forced and false, they no longer showed any kind of imperfections whether that was a laundry basket from B and M on the kitchen worktop or their fat mother, everything was so curated. Anyway, Tattle always sniffs out the idiots and can see through it.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 07/04/2024 12:42

I don’t know any influencers and so don’t follow any of those threads on tattle. The off topic page has some good discussion threads though.

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 07/04/2024 12:43

BTW agree wholeheartedly about that it’s awful when anyone uses their children on social media before they’re old enough to give consent or just use them for content (especially anyone who has a child going through some sort of medical procedure, I totally can’t fathom that).

Question?

Say an instagramner with a middle of the road page was gifted say, clothes, furniture, etc. had a jealous relative, friend who dropped a thread on Tattle making mischief. Would members see through this or proceed to destroy them?

I think you are using the MN pile on format and I am not sure that Tattle works that way. I think people generally follow the thread(s) on the influencer that they are already following as Tattle is mainly accompanying daily commentary by regulars with interest in the same person.

I've looked at the Mrs Hinch and Jack Monroe threads but since I follow neither they are meaningless to me. Likewise with the Katie Price & Alice Evans/Ioan Gruffudd threads.

I think it would be boring if people were just posting vile insults, whereas if you wanted to say, discuss and critique Harry & Meghan's every move with like minded people then that would be the ideal site to do it.

I was following an health influencer, ex reality TV, and stumbled onto Tattle which enlightened me to all the inconsistencies in her posts. Some of the posters on Tattle seem to have made it their main hobby and keep receipts so they are quick to point out the bare-faced lies. I also knew nothing about 'face tuning and filters' or about the tricks 'influencers' use like creating fake dramas to drive traffic to their site/adverts; buying followers, etc. As I said earlier, I found Tattle quite educational (I'm 57 so I'm not an expert on SM) as it is not all nasty abuse. I've actually seen more of that on MN where people can be nasty to each other on a personal level.

I'd probably be interested in reading the crime threads and wasn't even aware they were any on there.

And yes, Tattle is another timewaster like Mumsnet.

TheBunyip · 07/04/2024 12:47

Simon Harris
Jack Monroe
Sarah Akwinsombe
Clemmie Hooper
PTWM

just off the top of my head, people who were “earning” huge amounts of money by being inherently dishonest. I don’t think any of them would have been exposed without Tattle

i don’t care one bit about people having secret nannies or posting out of real time. And would never spend my time reading criticism of how someone dresses or eats or shags or shops or works out.

I do mind about people exploiting, usually vulnerable in some way, other people to dishonestly obtain money.

And I also have a huge problem with people monetising their children but that’s on them tbh.

volvoxc40 · 07/04/2024 12:48

Influencers make money and evade tax so IMO they're fair game. If you don't like it and want privacy, put down your phone and work at McDonalds.

I personally don't upload my image or business anywhere because I know I'm a person worthy of mocking, criticism an ire but I still don't want to have my life and character ripped apart and be spoke about as though I'm not human. Don't like it, don't post. It is that simple.

category12 · 07/04/2024 12:50

What happened with Simon Harris? He's that bloke that does charity fundraisers all the time like for the RNLI, isn't he?

Chunkycookie · 07/04/2024 12:51

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 07/04/2024 12:10

Referring to someone as a ‘c..t’ is just nasty not ‘nasty’.

Well, she doesn’t have to read it, does she?

I’m sure we all have people that slag us off behind our backs. The difference is, it’s probably the two women at work who don’t like you for some reason, or your friends husband who thinks you are a cow.

You put yourself out to the public, you grow a thick skin or you give it up.

Moralcompass1 · 07/04/2024 12:55

Just looked at knee deep. Wouldn’t follow and it seems harsh for her kids. The Tattle response seems insanely harsh.

Some potentially harmful influencers seem to manage to avoid criticism, despite some ethically dubious promotions. For example pilotmadeleine who pushes a sickly sweet image and then promotes Saudi Arabia, shills fast fashion and uses their young child to promote products (the lack of informed consent is horrendous). Some of the giveaways look like follower generation and never seem to be followed up on.

There is a quirky clothing company that has a facebook page for fans. People talk about their purchases but also put an awful lot of private family stuff out their presumably thinking it's a safe space.

Tatle contributers have found this and are absolutely brutal about the looks and lives of these people. The posters are not in the public eye nor are the celebrities. I think some may be a bit lonely or have issues they cat talk about in RL. Tatle mocks them and gives them un pleasent nicknames.
It's quite appalling and humiliating tbh.

Icantbedoingwithit · 07/04/2024 12:56

If your past life is shady, you have been accused of all sorts of underhand dealings, use a slimming filter making out you are 3 sizes smaller than you are, make up lies about other companies, say every single skincare and make up item is your go to but use something completely different the next week, use your SEN child in a black and white, pity me video with sad music when you get called out… then you are fair game.

It’s in the public domain. Anyone can look it up. It’s hardly a secret that someone has unearthed.

At least you can disagree on MN. The Tattle lot have to go over to the Tattle Reddit sub to slag each other off.

There isn't the ridiculous reporting/deleting for next to nowt on Tattle, though.

i know the thread although haven’t been on it recently.
Tattle also found that one of the members is a nazi with a fetish and was seemingly using the mainly female group to get his kicks. It is also focusses on the business itself because they use some horrible selling tactics.
I don’t like the sharing of peoples posts from that group on to tattle but people do need to realise that when they share a post in a group with thousands of members that it is not private, perhaps the group admins need to take some responsibility for allowing vulnerable people to post some really quite personal things in a group about dresses.

TheFairyCaravan · 07/04/2024 13:02

I like some of Tattle. Some of it is horrendous and goes too far. The Harry and Meghan threads are vile. They are completely deranged on there, they truly believe everything Lady C says as if it’s gospel. They’re in the camp that they might have used a surrogate with one poster saying if only Meghan had allowed the royal obstetricians in to have a look, when she was in Labour, then there’d be none of these rumours. I mean, wtaf? Why should any woman have to allow any doctor to have a look at her vagina, just to appease weirdos on the internet so rumours can be put to bed?

Stacey Solomon conflicts me. I don’t post on her threads and very seldom read them. I rarely look at her instagram, tbh yet she, well Joe, openly stated that one of her kids opened the window of the motor home while they were going down the motorway and it flew off. That window was in the bed area above the drivers cabin, where there’s no seats or seatbelt's. Had that have been Katie Price, it would have been in every single tabloid and she would have been slated. But Stacey is a bit ditsy and down to earth, so endangering her children and having them live up the garden is ok, when it’s actually not.

SheepAndSword · 07/04/2024 13:03

@notacooldad oh no, what's that one called?
