So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

If your past life is shady, you have been accused of all sorts of underhand dealings, use a slimming filter making out you are 3 sizes smaller than you are, make up lies about other companies, say every single skincare and make up item is your go to but use something completely different the next week, use your SEN child in a black and white, pity me video with sad music when you get called out… then you are fair game.

The issue for me is that just because you don't like someone doesn't mean it's suddenly fine to criticize them in a way that's just vile and nasty or misogynist. That's what I see happening a lot. They put themselves out there so it's okay for me to make really nasty comments about their personal appearance. the posters who make this kind of comment are worse human beings than the influencers they are criticizing. Which is fine but if you call them out for it, their feelings are hurt and a lot of them claim that them calling another woman a "fat whore" or making up really mean nicknames is 100% "justified". Just own that you're being an asshole.

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 13:07

The whole Clemmie Hooper/MotherofDaughters thing....was that not a Tattle takedown too?

volvoxc40 · 07/04/2024 13:08

You guys must be forgetting the oxygen thieving reddit 'trllhunters' who tracked down a Mumsnetter using details she posted, and instead of admitting they were wrong when they finally verified her story, they doubled down, defaced her dead son's obituary and concocted baseless theories about how her unstable character meant she somehow deserved what happened to her son.

I have yet to see anything on Mumsnet, tattle, or even lolcow.farm even a quarter as deranged, pathetic and bad-faith.

LemonTT · 07/04/2024 13:09

My rather jaded view of the world is that the media doesn’t call celebrities and influencers to account in the way they should. The relationships are far too cosy in some cases and in other cases journalists don’t do fact checks or background checks. I think this is a problem because it allows these people to exploit attitudes and prejudices and often make money off them.

Is Tattle the answer? I doubt it. But it can shine a light on lies, manipulations, unsubstantiated accusations and bias. In doing so it can push a lot people’s buttons and bring out haters. That’s when the pettiness, nastiness and vitriol takes over. As someone pointed out this escalates when the celeb or influencer is quiet. Tattle can be remarkably righteous when they are active.

Agree with both. The criticism should be on the actions/content, not the tearing apart of a person’s appearance. This is where Tattle crosses a line and also misses an opportunity as there is so much potentially harmful material posted/endorsed by influencers. See attached from an influencer (German, female) promoting Saudi by denying the suppression of women.

I hope that spreading misinformation becomes a crime soon.

No, she took herself down, posting on tattle herself and slagging off all the influencers she pretended to be friends with.

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 13:19

Did she not slag off her own influencer husband too? Marriage wrecking territory

Sunquest · 07/04/2024 13:19

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/04/2024 13:01

There isn't the ridiculous reporting/deleting for next to nowt on Tattle, though.

Well according to the Reddit tattle sub, there is...

I don't agree with insulting people about their physical appearance. The possible exception would be if you've posted clothes or make-up with a heavy filter. If you filter clothes ads so you always look a size 8 but you're actually a 12-14, then you're opening yourself up to people pointing out that you don't look like that in reality. In fairness, I'd say Stacey is good at posting herself wobbly bits and all whereas Mrs Hinch filters herself beyond recognition at times.

I also really hate the unrealistic body image that constant filtering projects on teenage girls and the associated rise in eating disorders and mental health issues.

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 13:20

I think Tattle also ended Rebecca Meldrums foray with influencing

I quite liked her in the early days but she changed.

I know exactly who you mean and she brings a lot of it on herself with being so bloody dishonest. I’ve blocked her as I can bear to see how she uses that Iittle boy on social media.

Guess I'm crazy and just imagined it then 😆

WilmaFlintstone1 · 07/04/2024 13:29

The Jack Monroe stuff was very good, they were calling her out long before people started to notice. I joined Tattle because it was the only place where I could speak to others who had seen the light.

the True Crime threads are good as are the trial ones.

There’s also a good thread about Man Behaving Dadly/Simon Harris who I used to like before realising how deeply dodgy he is. I also reported several comments regarding his appearance as that not okay.

I don’t follow much else

Sure, they open themselves up to people saying something like, "they are clearly bigger irl" but that's very different from the nastiness I see on Tattle (and gossip sites like Celebitchy).

JackyPBakedBeans · 07/04/2024 13:34

Tattle is disgusting. I say that as someone who has threads about them. Everything from my family to my body. People say ‘tattle holds influencers accountable’ but what exactly about body shaming me is holding me accountable?

I’ve been sent death threats. I’ve had people hand deliver stuff to my home despite never sharing my address or anything closer than my county. I’ve had to close a business because Tattlers would turn up to report back. I’ve had photos taken of my family and myself whilst out and about and posted.

I’ve been suicidal from it. That site needs to be banned and anyone who feels the need to bring others down needs to take a good hard look at themselves.

I quite like tattle but similarly to mumsnet there are posters who are unnecessarily nasty and too harsh. But I found it a couple of years ago when there was things the influencers I was watching were doing that I thought was wrong/deceitful/bad but there was noone or nowhere else talking about it. Like monetising your children and posting their entire life online or when they get multiple different hoovers for free, in a year, and advertise every one as 'the best thing ever'.

FrancisSeaton · 07/04/2024 13:38

Greeniswonderful · 06/04/2024 22:37

I quite like tattle. I found it when a particular influencer was driving me mad but everyone else in the world seemed to love him. Thought it was just me until I found others feeling the same on tattle, and honestly I was so relieved that I wasn’t the only one!! Some posters can be a bit harsh at times though yes.
There’s also a mumsnet thread that I like reading to see if there’s any good threads I need to read on here!

Was it manbehavingbadly by any chance 😂

Hello Jack!
Still not able to separate fact from fiction, I see.

SheepAndSword · 07/04/2024 13:40

It depends what you read on there, I stay clear of Instagram/celebrity/influencers.

A lot of the chat threads are informative and supportive.
