So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

Why do people get their knickers in such a bunch about that website. I don't get it. Life is not run by Disney, people are horrible about other people routinely, get over it, if it disgusts you don't look. I'm not even a member nor do I even know who 99% of the people they talk about are.

Toxic positivity and virtue signalling is the worst, plus deeply deeply dull.

I think its obvious that not everyone will get along in life and I HATE shit like 'don't raise your kid to be a bully'... news flash EVERYONE is portrayed in someone elses mind as a bully. You can't control what others think of you and things you likely don't even know you did (like not saying hello to someone, making a joke that was misinterpreted or having RBF) will have formed someones opinion of you.

BUT

Some people genuinely ARE bullies and this sounds like it TBH. You can have an opinion, you can not like someone but it does NOT mean you get to form whole website pages dedicated to tearing a stranger apart.

Slander, Harassment etc... still exist if a person is 'famous', they don't suddenly become immune to people being horrible. There is a very high rate of suicide, addiction and mental health issues among entertainers and always has been, its not really hard to guess why when the face this shit constantly.

The moral outrage over what is a ‘real’ job on here and Tattle is hilarious.

It’s advertising / selling / promoting - it IS a job. Does everyone file taxes properly? No. But show me a self employed industry where everyone does.

It’s a booming industry and young people especially are seeing it as an alternative to a 9-5 ‘proper’ job where a lot of people who are dissing influencing are stuck in a rut with limited earning potential and furious about it!

The platforms where influencers can earn may ebb and flow but the trend of influencing is going no where. Only savvy people - like Stacey Solomon as mentioned above - will make it long term. For everyone who makes a proper full time living through it because they understand the model, have business planners and accountants and agents and strategies, there’s hundreds of people who are, to put it politely deluded, and will fail and be bitter about it.

It’s not a job I would do because you have to be shameless, ruthless and thick skinned but I know people who have been able to give up the 9-5 grind and earn well very quickly and spin it into other opportunities that have longevity. More power to them!

People predicted reality TV as a way to become famous would last a couple of years at most yet here we are.

So if threads are moderated then I’m not sure how they do get aaay with calling someone’a rat faced ugly c**t’? I promise I’m not related to KDIL woman but I can’t really see why she’s so disliked. Her content really isn’t my cup of tea but she doesn’t show her kids off and she seems okay (her instagram self anyway which is how tattle judge her).

TBH I was amazed by how influencers on there that I’ve never even heard of! Also… runs off to find the mumsnet thread 😂

Because you can be as nasty and vicious as you want about influencers, but you're not allowed to criticize the Tattle regulars, even gently.

Icantbedoingwithit · 07/04/2024 11:15

There are some really awful people on Tik Tok, manipulating, begging, lying, bullying and that have done some hideous things. They could absolutely be called out.
The ones trying to make a living and are doing no harm should be just left to get on with it.

Over40Overdating · 07/04/2024 11:21

And as for Tattle being some freedom of speech haven - it’s not. It’s predominantly where people who are bitter about their own lives go to spew bile to feel better.

And I say that as someone who was signed up for a while. It’s not a coincidence that when I was spending time on there, my life was a mess & I was angry, lonely & sad & wanted validation that people were shit.

Philip Schofield was known for his behaviours long before tattle. All Tattle did was recycle the rumours til everyone knew someone who absolutely knew it to be true.

I did an AMA on here years ago about a previous job where I worked with celebs and shared a lot of stories. Someone on Tattle regularly repeated them as their own stories and became the trusted source of all things celeb even when they started making things up.

I’m sure there are threads that are useful and informative on there as there are on here, but the celeb / influencers threads are not hallowed spaces of investigative journalism or free speech. It’s gossip.

MintTwirl · 07/04/2024 11:25

Some tattle threads are informative and interesting (I like the crime/court case ones) and some are awful. The same as mumsnet really.
The influencer threads can get nasty but not all of them are, I follow a few about people I know of. Some of these people will go to what I feel are extreme lengths to make money by exploiting their kids online, often they know what they are doing is wrong but the greed has taken over and we should be able to discuss that, mumsnet often shuts these kinds of discussions down.
I don’t agree with commenting on the appearance of children, it shouldn’t happen on there (it’s against the rules) but it does at times.

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 07/04/2024 11:28

So what has happened to Jack Monroe?

OP posts:
hotpotlover · 07/04/2024 11:37

I went on there once and there was a poster who made fun of one of Stacey Solomon's kids, basically about their looks.

It's a nasty website and it's scary that the posters on there walk among us.

justasking111 · 07/04/2024 11:37

Question?

Say an instagramner with a middle of the road page was gifted say, clothes, furniture, etc. had a jealous relative, friend who dropped a thread on Tattle making mischief. Would members see through this or proceed to destroy them?

justasking111 · 07/04/2024 11:40

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 07/04/2024 11:28

So what has happened to Jack Monroe?

Who is he, sounds like a nasty journalist, like that Katie Hopkins who made a living out of it for a while

MammaPenny · 07/04/2024 11:45

I think it’s absolutely hilarious. Not the out and out bullying that goes on but the people who literally obsess over people they claim to hate. “Oh that was an old post her nails are different she’s such a fraud why does she think she can fool us” type of thing 😂

My absolute favourite and how I was made aware of Tattle in the first place was a cancer patient who’d decided to document their journey on instagram having a thread about them (imagine being unhappy enough to do something like that) their address etc was posted, links to their house on Rightmove and this person rightfully said they’d got the police involved. The Tattlers were scrambling round like rats in a barrel, it was the funniest thing. One said they’d not be able to track her down cause they live abroad and her husband works for the government 😂😂😂 yes my love I’m sure that’s the case 🥴

Sleepydoor · 07/04/2024 11:46

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/04/2024 08:54

Why are you defending it as being a job then?!

Because it's a job?

Wow that's shameless

Bertiebadgers · 07/04/2024 11:48

I used to check Tattle regularly. Then similar to pp I found it was making me feel a bit crazy so I stopped checking it as much & now I barely ever do.
I’m not on social media & I really hate influencer culture. I hope my DD never gets sucked in to it as I feel it can be very damaging. That said the level to which some of the Tattle posters go to in order to take down particular influencers borders on the deranged! I think someone on mumsnet once said it makes you sympathise with the target of the abuse as it’s just on another level. I really didn’t like the threads slagging off Dame Deborah James because no matter what you thought about her it seemed really low to target someone with advanced cancer. I have bowel cancer myself & I deal with it very differently to DJ but I admire what she did & how she used her platform to raise awareness of bowel cancer & to raise a huge amount of money. Most influencers are just flogging a load of rubbish & raising awareness of themselves 🙄!

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 11:48

ButtercupFlower · 07/04/2024 09:07

It’s a really awful place - I’ve seen friends mentioned on there in such an awful way that it made me feel sick.

Aww bless..

Newtonianmechanics · 07/04/2024 11:49

@JollyJolene

Is that in the app?

Chunkycookie · 07/04/2024 11:52

You put yourself publicly on social media, people will talk about you publicly. Not everyone is going to like you.

These “influencers ” can’t have it both ways. Happy to take the ads and the freebies, but cry when they are called out or someone doesn’t like them.

Knee Deep in Life posts some absolutely vile stuff. Of course people are going to talk about it.

No one is forcing her to do it. She can delete her account and then no one will be “nasty” about her again.

Sleepydoor · 07/04/2024 11:53

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/04/2024 09:05

I don’t actually but… well not anymore.

Yes we could all bang on about Starbucks and Amazon and Mr Bloggs in the high street not paying taxes but influencers and bloggers grind some people’s gears because they appear to sit on their arses posting tat and probably don’t declare their earnings for tax.

I appreciate this post makes me sound more invested than I am which I really am not! Honest guv.

Edited

"they appear to sit on their arses posting tat"

There are a lot of self-employed jobs that could look like that though. A writer, for instance.
It's fine to call out the people who are not declaring ads, etc. but I don't think you can assume influencers "probably don't declare their earnings for tax" to conclude they don't have a job. But anyway, I assume a lot of handymen don't declare their earnings for tax but that doesn't mean they don't have a job.

Springtime2024 · 07/04/2024 11:55

Horses for courses, if you don’t like it don’t read it.

blue345 · 07/04/2024 11:57

I'm on Tattle. The threads can vary significantly but the one I'm on has quite a supportive community when members are going through tough times.

It's meant to be an irreverent piss-take of influencers and the one I'm on calls out the deception and bullshit. It can be quite amusing, particularly when people post filtered and unfiltered photos side by side. I don't agree with everything that's posted but it's less of a snake pit than MN at times.

There is a rule that you can't take it off Tattle so the idea is that you're free to critique on Tattle but not put anything negative on Instagram or wherever. If I was an influencer, I'd expect some people not to like me. You're selling your private life and if you don't want to read negative comments, don't look on Tattle, Reddit or frankly MN.

Thegoodbadandugly · 07/04/2024 11:59

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 06/04/2024 22:29

Right? Is that a one off or are there many threads like that? For what it’s worth I’m not even a huge fan of hers and I have found some of her content a bit lame, but bloody hell, they seem to really dislike her.

They dislike everyone on tattle. It's just a massive bitch fest.

dibly · 07/04/2024 12:02

it’s vile and unnecessary, I found it when googling an influencer who is going through a divorce and the comments spiralled into vitioll. I know influencers put themselves out there, but I can’t imagine how damaging it must be to read such nastiness about your life, looks; aging and lifestyle when you’re already feeling vulnerable.

MississippiAF · 07/04/2024 12:08

If it’s a real job, then they’ll be critiqued like any other job. If they were providing a product or service, people would review said product or service.

If they are the product, then they will be reviewed. Don’t like it? Don’t flog yourself online, it’s quite an easy fix. But if you’re pulling a fast one and get caught, don’t cry trolls when you get caught out.

Referring to someone as a ‘c..t’ is just nasty not ‘nasty’.

This kind of sounds like a post I made on Tattle! I posted about an influencer who posted a full body picture of herself on Instagram shortly after giving birth that was from a few years before she had kids. She was lapping up all the "you look amazing so soon after having a baby!" comments and I found the years earlier instagram posts with the same setting, outfits and people noted even the nail polish was the same. I don't think that was me being crazy and obsessive though -- I was really annoyed she was creating a false image of how quickly someone should bounce back after giving birth to fit the perfect image she was trying to project. I stopped watching her videos or looking at her instagram posts.
