I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

I have watched interviews of someone I know well who has a certain level of fame. She comes across as funny laughy chatty. I know her to be none of those things but she is nasty vile rude and cruel. Alot of these celebs can turn it on and off like a switch...but then so can alot of people i suppose..

ZebraDanios · 04/04/2024 20:51

I would be disappointed if Emma Thompson were an arsehole in real life. Does anyone know whether she’s as lovely as I want her to be?

CHEESEY13 · 04/04/2024 20:54

J K Rowling: good AND bloody fearless. Pity actor Daniel Radcliffe cancelled her for her common sense point of view on the transgender row. And just where would he be without her invention Harry Potter?

Has anyone said Marilyn Monroe yet? She had such a sweet, kind innocence about her. Everyone who has ever said anything about her has only had the utmost praise.

I heard Tony Curtis talking about her in an interview, they'd been in a film together and he wasn't very nice about her, year later he said they'd had an affair during the making of the film so I don't know if the comments were him being bitter about the affair being over. From memory, and we are probably talking about over 50 years ago, I think he was complaining about her being unprofessional and keeping everyone waiting on set as she was always late.

Not melodramatic at all, I know exactly what you mean. I took flowers to his house in Berkshire and my children were astounded at the thousands upon thousands of tributes that had been left. It taught them the impact that someone and/or their music can have on your life without you ever meeting them.

Aw, that sounds wonderful. I wish I could have got there but I have too many ailments. But yes, you’re so right - and George left his mark on a lot people’s lives and hearts.

So you've met her have you?

How dismissive. And dehumanising about someone you don't even know.

Esther has spent her lifetime campaigning for people's consumer rights, rights for the lonely and elderly, children and now for proper legislation to enable assisted dying.

its depressing that the perception of a persons worth and "niceness" is heavily skewed by the superficiality borne out of social media instead of looking at their actual lifelong contributions to humankind. That to me is what makes a wonderful person. I would love to meet her before she dies, she's unique, not least of all having to battle misogyny and the patriarchy of the BBC back in the 70s. Enough to knock the edges off anyone!

She turned a blind eye to jimmy savilles antics whilst advocating child line, hypocrite springs to mind.

Singleandproud · 04/04/2024 21:02

@CHEESEY13 Daniel Radcliffe couldn't cancel JKR even if he wanted to. She is so well off that she never, ever has to work again. She doesn't give a flying fuck about those she upsets as she knows she's right. She knows that there are millions of women and men behind her even if bookshops didn't sell her books she could just set up her own online store and her fans would just buy direct from there. She is in a ridiculously privileged position held by a tiny fraction of the population that she can actually do no wrong. Except for those that send her death threats - they could be an issue but financially and professionally she's set for life.

Cilla Black - charming, humble lady

Reputably very mercenary. Knew her price and wouldn't do anything for free.

Perhaps she simply didn't have enough evidence to report him. It's all very well saying someone 'knew', but Savile was all-but untouchable and very clever about choosing the type of damaged victims he knew wouldn't be believed. I was never shocked by Rolf Harris either: an old friend worked in television at the time and his was one of the names young women in that sphere were warned to avoid. Might as well say she 'knew'. Unsubstantiated rumour, even open secret, is insufficient evidence on which to make a serious accusation of this kind. If no one else, including Savile's actual victims had reported him to the police, then how could she? (The fact that they apparently did and police chose to ignore this is a different discussion entirely).

Rantzen - like most of us I suspect - has done things in her life that weren't so good but also did an awful lot of good for a great many people. I'm sorry she's dying and really hope her last campaign, her advocacy for assisted dying, is successful. This would be quite some legacy.

speyside · 04/04/2024 21:08

When he lost his case in uk he was determined to prove his innocense. The US court found him not guilty and amber the guilty party in fact she owes him a fortune he was determined to prove his innocence and Kate Moss backed him up I have a feeling she takes no prisoners and speaks her mind also if we are talking charity he went around childrens ' wards in his pirate outfit to cheer children up donated millions and Judi Dench was quoted on Graham Norton how much she adores him I don't think she would support a wife beater.

Jason Manford is so great he was involved in a cheating texting scandal.

Lorraine Kelly is known to be a complete bitch.

What people don't realise is see these people on TV and even on Gogglebox, they're presenting an image as to how they want to be seen. Too much backlash against them and look what happens to e.g. John Leslie, Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

The vast majority of celebs only get where they are by using people and being nasty to them, some are nice and some not nice. But in the world of TV, film, music and celebrity you don't get places by being a weak pushover.

Yep, think of the worst type of brown nosers in work that will throw anyone under a bus 👊🏻

I'm not saying she's a arsehole.

But back in 2019 when she flew from New York and back to join the extinction rebellion protests was a arsehole move.

Tattletwat · 04/04/2024 21:17

Janson manford isn't nice , he likes to project a image like that. There is his cheating and below.

He defended Catherine Tyldsley when there was cake gate and then blocked anyone who called him out on it.

Minniliscious · 04/04/2024 21:20

Kelly Brook is absolutely lovely. Knew her well back in the early days of her fame and she’s just a really nice person.

I had to deal with quite a few celebs in my job 20 odd years back. Best ones were - Ant and Dec, Simon Callow (amazing man) and randomly Cain from Emmerdale ha ha.

Worst ones were Amanda Holden and Michelle Collins 🤮

It would be like 'war and peace', a long story without the peace bit. 😉

Brigitte Bardot Is Handed Her Sixth Fine for “Inciting Racial Hatred”

The French actor, who has a long history of making racial insults in her writings about animal abuse, will be required to pay 20,000 euros for a 2019 letter calling residents of Réunion island “savages.”

People, people, it’s Mumsnet Ffs. And yet no one has yet mentioned the sainted Anthony Head. The place has gone to the dogs I tell you.

aSpanielintheworks · 04/04/2024 21:41

The late, very wonderful, Paul o'Grady.

Olivegardenishome · 04/04/2024 21:45

Dolly Parton - queen. Does so much for communities and just seems to have a good heart.

Taylor Swift - made lots of donations to various charities I work with here in Australia while on tour, and I’ve been told she does this wherever she goes. Also one of her dancers I vaguely know as she went to school with my cousin, she always says how well treated they are by Taylor and how lovely she always is to them (like knocking on their hotel room door with tacos or inviting them out etc).

JK Rowling - fearlessly speaking up for women. Never used to be a fan but I really admire her courage.

Keanu Reeves - seems so genuine and unlike most other celebrities.

Kelly Clarkson - she seems down to earth and a woman’s woman.

I don’t know what to make of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Livey. I want to believe they’re genuine but something seems so insincere and calculated with them but I can’t put my finger on what.

Didn’t Kelly beat up one of her exs?

Bumbleebeetree · 04/04/2024 21:53

Joanna lumley and Bill Bailey do a lot for charity and seem like nice peoplem.
