What's the small detail in somebody's home which makes you think, "wow these people are very clean!"

For me it's the bathroom mirrors being spotless or dust-free skirting boards

Yep to dust free skirting boards and also a clean and tidy porch.

Nothing in the corners or behind/under furniture. With kids we always have toys or crumbs or pencils or a stray sock lying around

Bathroom floor/fridge/toilet

Complete lack of clutter.

Though its not really something I pay much attention to, unless the house is egregiously dirty.

Lack of gross build up around sink taps.

When they say let's move the sofa to create more space and there's nothing under there! No crumbs, no toys no clutter hidden underneath

Specifically toilet seat hinges and the bottom area/base of toilet! Surprising how often they are overlooked when the bathroom is otherwise clean

Who actually inspects their friend's skirting boards?!

But would they suggest moving it if they knew it wasn’t clean underneath?

Under the sofa cushions being hoovered/wiped is another --guilty of forgetting

You don't need to inspect them; you can just see.

Skirting boards is what I thought when I read the title too.

That's the thing, they hadn't expected so many visitors and the suggestion was made by somebody else. The host was all for it though and I just couldn't help thinking that at my house there would have atleast been some stray hair bobbles or kids crayons or something

Admittedly, we are renovating, so things are everywhere currently, but this thread has given me food for thought.

Toilet roll folded into a pointy thing after every use.

I have a relative that rolls all her towels into neat little cylinders and stacks them on a shelf - just like in a spa. I have literally no idea how anyone has time to do this. If I have clean towels to offer guests, I feel like I'm winning.

Ermmm. Can't say I pay that much attention to skirting boards at my friend's houses...

One of those spotless kitchens where the only items on the worktops are the kettle, toaster and utensil pot.

Really well organised cupboards. My house looks very nice and clean, but if you open my cupboards 🙄 it’s a different story. I organise once a month, but my kids and partner disregard my order and just lob everything in (and if I’m honest, I do too 😬).

Btw, I don’t inspect other peoples cupboards. But if they open up their saucepan cupboard, and they don’t all come tumbling out, I’m impressed lol

The wall behing kitchen bin being splatter free. Never something I've looked out for but have noticed a few times

It's got to be the bathroom as that's where you have time to actually pay attention-clean toilet and sink. Clutter free house in general too, there shouldn't be anything on the floor, ever.

Outside of homes, I've been in more than my fair share of hairdressers and hotel rooms with manky skirting boards and it makes my heart sink each time.

No brown ring inside the bottom of cups. Mine used to be fine until the dishwasher broke.

Unless there is a pile of shit that i step on when I enter I really don’t notice daily, lived in grime . I visit friends for their company,not to check skirting boards and sink taps ! Just not on my radar 🤷‍♀️
