Travelator at the airport.

Especially when, as happened this morning, there is no one else on it because I love walking as fast I can and feeling like some kind of superhero striding out.

Conversely, I am most disappointed when there are lots of people and my childish glee has to be contained - and when someone has the temerity to block both lanes so I can't get past I feel deflated.

What childish things do you still get excited by as an adult?

Steam trains
Baby lambs
Ducklings
Tropical fish
Jumping the waves

Such a lot of things to make us happy - so many resonate for me too, particularly the animal related ones.

Thank you all for sharing 😊

@TroysMammy Thanks! I've just joined Postcrossing. It's a great idea. I travel a lot and love sending postcards but the idea of sending them to random people is fabulous.

DistractMe · 31/03/2024 16:53

I'm 60 and still walk on walls. And try and avoid stepping on the cracks.

I love 🐿

a park close to me the squirrels will take food from your hands and join your picnic so will the ducks and a few foxes are known to take food from the park keepers (we can watch from a distance) it’s a park where no dogs are allowed in one area but it has a cat who has decided it’s her manor

I love the idea of red squirrels being reintroduced they are so beautiful (wildlife park I go to has a few in a large enclosure they are very shy I once waited about 30 minutes to see one assumed it was a youngster then her two babies followed I actually started crying ☺️

I love animals cats having a chat with me foxes being nosey dogs coming to say hello and having an owl stalk me (swooped down three times while driving down a county lane late at night) was amazing

We have had a few badger sightings at work we are all so excited

Swings
Climbing frame
Slides - its great if there's nobody in the park but me and I get to go on everything!
Chair-o-planes
Chuggy boats
Trains - probaby because only on a train if I'm on holiday
Christmas
Buttons Easter eggs
pink things
Being at the front of the metro (or the bus but not keen on buses generally so don't go on them)
Climbing trees
Sledging
Handstands - not done the last three for YEARS!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/03/2024 17:35

I like those miniature bottles of wine you get on a plane - I like to pretend I'm a giant although I manage not to maraude about the plane yelling and beating my chest - well so far anyway.

You can buy those in Tesco's now. My favourite is the Mateus Rose, so cute. We take them on picnics.

Horses or ponies in a field

Even though I have my own horse I still get excited about seeing other horses. That pony mad child never leaves you.

DH will always shout PONIES when we pass them so I don't miss it 🤣

Moltenpink · 31/03/2024 17:52

I realised this week that when I ride my bike, I’m saying “wheeeeeeee” inside my head

Newgirls · 31/03/2024 18:03

Lots of these 😀 thanks for the lovely thread

bluebells
Going in the car wash
blue sky days
breakfast buffets

Pulling into a space in a car park where the one in front is empty - means I can drive through so I’m nose out. Saves me having to reverse into a space

I saw this described on MN as a Through and Through so I always declare Oooh a through'n;through when I drive in (hoping no-one is trying to reverse into the space at the same time !).

I love that!! I’ll think of it as a through and through from now on 😊

The weekend - I love love love 5pm on a Friday

A Mr Whippy with a flake and that dark red raspberry sauce you get up here.

When I’m in the car and one of my favourite songs comes on, and I get to sing along loudly yo my heart’s content

Turkish Delight

Bluebell woods

Loads of things really - I have a little notebook called ‘my favourite things’ which is full of random things I love about life and living - I add to it often.

The favourite things notebook is a brilliant idea! Smile

hellsBells246 · 31/03/2024 18:37

I'm with you, but it has to be the old-style bouncy ones!! Blooming love bombing down one of them with a wheely suitcase!

Gerwurtztraminer · 31/03/2024 19:13

A few of mine are
Taking off your shoes and wading ankle deep in water - at the beach, a stream, river or lake, on wet sand.

Sunrises and sunsets - I've seen amazing ones all around the world but even the ones out of the window of my London flat can be uplifting

Also snow falling & especially as you walk home at night through dead quiet streets with street lights shining on the snow, with an urban fox trotting down the road towards you, totally unbothered.

Horses. I once took a shortcut through a tiny (barely the size of large suburban garden), London park on a hot summers day, to find 2 mounted police officers giving their horses a water break and a rest. Not an normal sight to expect! I was able to pat these massive horses and take a big sniff of sweaty horse. The officers were amused and obviously used to their horses getting all the love & attention!

New born lambs and calves we’ve got them everywhere at the moment, swallows returning in the late spring/early summer, curlews especially when they come back to our beaches after they’ve reared their young in the hills, the first snowdrops for me it means the beginning of the end of winter and I live by the sea I see it everyday it never fails to excite me.

I live in the hills and love the curlews arriving to nest. They're a sign spring is on its way.

When my husband comes back from a bike ride he always reports back on how many horses he’s seen and it makes me almost as happy as if I’d seen them!

I’ll add
bird song
the start of warmer evenings
dogs playing in a park

LondonLass61 · 31/03/2024 19:28

Seeing the sea....

BeaLola · 31/03/2024 19:47

Paddling in the sea
Seeing pansies - flowers with faces
Jumping over a puddle or stepping over now I'm older (!)
Toast in bed
Mini eggs at Easter
Going on a steam train - did this yesterday was fab
Seeing a really good rainbow
Using a brand new nicely sharpened pencil

Sockofthefall · 31/03/2024 19:50

Fortunate enough to live by a major river. Love to watch the ships on the river, the skill of the river pilots & tug boats placing this enormous vessel in the right place always fills me with a sense of awe & joy.

foxes staring at me in my lounge
The Jays in my garden

relaxing on a narrowboat watching nature go by🥰. Just Being in the present!
