I’m curious to know what’s the most common term on MN(Not necessarily the UK.)

Personally I call it a roll.

What do you call this?

A roll.
A cob is crusty bread.

A barm, and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise

It's not floury or flat enough to be a barmcake.

midgetastic · 30/03/2024 20:06

Bread bun

StormingNorman · 30/03/2024 20:21

Roll. Not as good as a crusty roll though.

JLT24 · 30/03/2024 20:29

In Liverpool it’s called a barm cake

Husband is from Yorkshire and calls it a bread bun

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 30/03/2024 20:44

Bap or roll. South wales .

thedendrochronologist · 30/03/2024 20:50

It was a breadcake in my childhood but I think Just one city calls it that

I'd call it a breadroll or a bread bun

Meadowflower2023 · 30/03/2024 21:07

@Justcallmebebes I'm in Derbyshire 🙌🏼

thomasinacat · 30/03/2024 22:31

cob (also Derbyshire)

mondaytosunday · 30/03/2024 22:32

Roll or dinner roll.

DrunkenElephant · 30/03/2024 22:33

That is a fine example of what is (correctly) known as a cob.

CwmYoy · 30/03/2024 22:44

Batch. Obvs.

KnickerlessParsons · 30/03/2024 23:25

Bap

milkysmum · 30/03/2024 23:31

I would call that a barm cake.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/03/2024 23:33

Roll

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 31/03/2024 00:53

Bap

DilemmaDelilah · 31/03/2024 09:26

Here in the Westcountry it's a bread roll (as opposed to a filled roll or a sausage roll). Where my daughter lives in Liverpool it's a barm cake.

I am interested to know if packaged bread rolls (in supermarkets etc.) are labelled differently in different parts of the country? Surely not?

Ridiculous24 · 31/03/2024 09:32

Anyone calling it a batch NOT from Coventry?

NearlyBritishSummertimeYay · 31/03/2024 09:32

A small soft white roll if I needed to be specific, but just a roll otherwise.

Bread cake is more accurate though! They spike my blood glucose more than actual cake!!

fridaynight1 · 31/03/2024 09:35

It’s a bap or a barm

dontforgetme · 31/03/2024 10:09

Birmingham and it's a cob!

Bluepetergarden · 31/03/2024 13:26

It’s a barm and the the space between terraced houses is a ginnel. Anything else is fighting talk
