I’m curious to know what’s the most common term on MN(Not necessarily the UK.)

Personally I call it a roll.

What do you call this?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 30/03/2024 13:32

A bap is flat and flavourless.

Autienotnaughtie · 30/03/2024 13:33

Roll

Baps are bigger

Snowpaw · 30/03/2024 13:33

My midlands family would call it a batch.

I'd call it a bap or a roll.

RoseMoose · 30/03/2024 13:34

That's a soft cob.

Sgtmajormummy · 30/03/2024 13:36

I’d call it a dinner roll, the sort you’d get in a pub with soup.
But here in Italy where there are so many types (rosetta, tartaruga, michetta, pasta dura, pane arabo…) I revert to calling them bread buns.

EveryKneeShallBow · 30/03/2024 13:44

Roll

Justleaveitblankthen · 30/03/2024 13:45

Growing up in Lancashire it was a barm cake. On the small side, but still..
Would say Roll these days.

LividAA · 30/03/2024 13:51

It’s a fuckin muffin.

Wronguns.

TidyDancer · 30/03/2024 14:00

That's a roll. A soft white roll if you want to be specific. A bap or cob is bigger, probably at least twice the size. Baps are also flatter.

Obviously there are regional variations on this but a cake or bun would be sweet, savoury muffins are what you get with a McDonalds breakfast and never had a barm so not sure what that would look like in various places!

Waitingfordoggo · 30/03/2024 14:02

It’s a roll where I am (South East). Possibly a bap but I would probably reserve that term for a wider, flatter roll.

DoYouSmokePaul · 30/03/2024 13:06

Morning roll or softie. I’m from Aberdeen where a roll is a very different but incredible thing (aka a rowie or buttery).

I came on to say this too.You beat me to it.
Although I call it a roll since I now live a different part of Scotland.

oui · 30/03/2024 14:05

A cob.

(From the west mids, living in east mids/South derbyshire.)

loropianalover · 30/03/2024 14:07

Morning roll or bla. (Ireland)

ginasevern · 30/03/2024 14:07

In the West Country it's a roll or if you really want to be specific it's a soft white roll.

Tarkan · 30/03/2024 14:08

A roll.

FixTheBone · 30/03/2024 14:10

Its a bread roll....

... Becomes a bun if you put a burger in it....

... Or a bap with bacon or sausages.....

Its never a teacake.

FloofCloud · 30/03/2024 14:12

A roll but I live in a weird place where they call it a cob 😳

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 30/03/2024 14:12

This is always all over FB and so many arguments over it/ them.
Some are bigger and flatter.. some crispy and so forth..
Usually tells you on the packet what they are.
I'm in West Yorkshire. The larger ones are plain Tea cakes.. ( yes there is fruit tea cakes too).
Then we have bread rolls / baps.. which is what the photo looks like.
Balm cakes are made with leven balm..so definitely not a balm.

Tisfortired · 30/03/2024 14:14

I’d call that a muffin. At a stretch maybe a ‘roll.’

Buzzer3555 · 30/03/2024 14:14

Cob

Tisfortired · 30/03/2024 14:20

LividAA · 30/03/2024 13:51

It’s a fuckin muffin.

Wronguns.

The only other person I’ve seen to call it a muffin. I feel like calling this a muffin narrows down whereabouts quite a lot 😂

ineedmoresleepnow · 30/03/2024 14:45

It's a tea cake 😊

TheDreamOfSleep · 30/03/2024 14:51

Seeline · 30/03/2024 12:22

Soft white roll.

Baps are flatter, rounder and have flour on top.

Buns are iced and/or have dried fruit in them.

This.

RichardsGear · 30/03/2024 14:53

A bun.

Butteredtoast55 · 30/03/2024 14:54

A roll in our house but it used to be a cob when I was growing up in north Derbyshire and is a batch around the area I now live.
