I'm sitting here eating a Sainsburys St Clemens & Honey hot cross bun and it's sublime.

What are your recommendations?

M&S apple
I've been wondering about Sainsburys St Clements & Honey for weeks, not a honey fan so have avoided....

My local Italian owned deli/cafe. Large, sticky, delicious. 1.20 each which is a bargain compared to the 2.90 charged by a couple of artisan bakeries near me. Bad news? The deli only does them for a 3 week run up to/over Easter then finished until next year. Same with the Easter cheese they make. Fantastic shop tho. Family owned and same staff for years

Apple and cinnamon ones from Sainsbury's.

Caspianberg · 30/03/2024 17:15

Also can’t buy them here, so have just taken 12 lovely Paul Hollywood recipe ones out the oven. Have used his recipe for 5-6 years and it’s always good.

fussychica · 30/03/2024 17:16

Only traditional flavours here. Waitrose No1 Golden HCBs are delightful and today on a recommendation in the press and GH I've got Morrisons The Best HCBs but not tried yet.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 30/03/2024 17:18

The white chocolate and lemon ones from Sainsbury’s were divine; the Waitrose ones of the same flavour were strangely pallid by comparison.

You’d better hurry though, there are approximately 3 nanoseconds left before the shops close for a single day, so everywhere is jam packed as if the apocalypse is coming.

We like the cheese ones , Tesco and M&S have done them this year and both are great .

FizzyStream · 30/03/2024 17:23

M&S blueberry ones had sold out for my Ocado delivery today. Sad face.

I quite like the apple ones too though and DH and DS1 love the double chocolate ones.

Can't remember where I bought ones with cherries in. Might be Sainsbury's. They were lovely!

Crikeyalmighty · 30/03/2024 17:26

M&S blueberry

Idontknowwhattodo78 · 30/03/2024 17:29

I recommend that you do not buy the ones from the coop. DH wanted them, they are shite. Avoid.

HolidayHappy123 · 30/03/2024 17:29

Since been diagnosed coeliac 2 years ago, hot cross buns are something I really miss!! Has anyone come across any decent gluten free ones?

The M&S made without wheat ones are very good.

makeanddo · 30/03/2024 18:22

I only like traditional hot cross buns, I don't believe in these ones with other stuff like chocolate and blueberries, it's so WRONG.

Anyway agree with previous poster about a traditional bakery, always the best. I like mine with something savoury like marmite or cheese.

Kalevala · 30/03/2024 18:29

Proper bakery ones, anyday.

mrsnjw · 30/03/2024 18:55

@marshmallowfinder bought the Waitrose lemon and white chocolate ones today. Oh my they are delicious

If you're okay with oats then try Oat Pantry Hot Cross bun porridge. Absolutely gorgeous. They've got LOADS of different flavours too including carrot cake, lemon drizzle cake, cherry Bakewell, it's almost like eating those things!! I'm not diagnosed coeliac but I don't have gluten because it makes me ill and I can tolerate Oat Pantry perfectly (I know oats can be iffy for some people). Highly recommend (no I don't work for them!)

CurlewKate · 30/03/2024 19:09

I can offer an excellent recipe. You'll never want bought ones again, though.

CranfordScones · 30/03/2024 19:15

Aldi Specially Selected ones were quite decent and of course good value. I think they won the taste test in one of the papers.

I'm definitely going to try to M&S ones after this thread...

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 30/03/2024 19:17

Coop chocolate orange
