I'm sitting here eating a Sainsburys St Clemens & Honey hot cross bun and it's sublime.

What are your recommendations?

M&S apple hot cross buns are really good

PaintedPottery · 30/03/2024 19:55

Not Cross Buns from SRSLY, they’re low carb and delicious!

Red leicster hot cross buns? What magic is this?

The work of the devil I think.

Greengagesummer65 · 30/03/2024 20:36

Homemade. They’re in a different league 😋

All of these novelty flavours are NOT hot cross buns. They are just flavoured buns.
Hot cross buns are traditionally spiced buns only. M&S luxury version is the best

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER small nerdy fact - the birds won't even notice the chilli. They don't taste it like we do.

I'm not telling you the actual best place to go because then the bakery will run out before I get there. I bought loads on Wednesday and they are now all mysteriously gone.

But I will give you a clue - go to a real bakery that doesn't use industrialised processes to make pappy air-inflated bread but prides itself on bread that contains nothing but flour, water and yeast. They will do excellent HCBs

@YireosDodeAver

i would have to drive a long way to find such a place!

I don't like flavoured ones, so maybe my option won't help you, but my preference is Tesco extra fruit. Much nicer than any of the other supermarket ones IMO.

Whattheduck · 31/03/2024 14:13

Just had a Tesco extra fruity one that was rather nice
I only like the fruit ones the flavoured ones aren’t for me

The lemon and white chocolate ones from Sainsbury’s are amazing! I’ve had at least 3 packs this year…

I also had the triple chocolate ones from Tesco which were fine but nothing compared to the lemon ones. Also had the Tesco cinnamon and brown sugar ones which I wasn’t a massive fan of, they just tasted like normal ones which was fine but obviously they were more expensive than the normal ones.

I bloody love a hot cross bun dripping in butter… nothing better 😋

I made my own for the first time using Mary Berry's recipe. I however swapped currants for sultanas and cranberries as currants are surprisingly hard to find and I'm unlikely to use them for anything else. They were so good! Tasted so much better because of the amount of effort I'd put it.
