Do most people have a special Easter lunch.

(Assuming that it doesn’t clash with your own beliefs) but if not do you celebrate it?

Personally I’ve never known anyone who does make a special lunch but then Sunday roasts don’t seem to be as popular here as in other parts of the country.

No and have never known anybody to do so either. Nor have I ever outside of Instagram known anyone that has the Easter bunny deliver as many presents as Santa.

WishesPromised · 29/03/2024 19:21

We do. We used to travel to my parents to have a Turkey roast complete with trimmings.

Will just be us (husband and children) this year. Due to democracy we are having roast beef.

We won't bother with a pudding this year as the children have all that chocolate to work their way through (will be the work of moments).

mynameiscalypso · 29/03/2024 19:22

We quite often see family or friends in which case, yes, we would. But in the same way that we'd have a nice lunch if they came over on any other Sunday. When it's just the three of us, like it is this year, we wont bother although my DH will eat a lot of chocolate as he gave up sugar for lent.

Caluse · 29/03/2024 19:23

Yes we always have a nice Easter lunch, this year DH and DD are having beef and DS and I are having Juicy Marbles.

KalaMush · 29/03/2024 19:25

We do - this year it's lamb stew and orange cake.

petitdonkey · 29/03/2024 19:25

Easter has always been a really big event for my family. I was raised catholic, which probably explains it, but even though I’m
no longer practicing it’s a lovely excuse to see the whole family. I have a quiet one this weekend (only 7 of us) but a re-run next week with 11 of us over 3 days! Always roast lamb and I love laying my Easter table!

mantlepiece · 29/03/2024 19:27

We always have a leg of lamb on Easter Sunday.

Womanbythesea · 29/03/2024 19:28

We don't. In fact we don't really do anything special at Easter apart from eat chocolate.

Cbeebiesismyworld · 29/03/2024 19:28

No never. But I’ve worked Sundays my entire adult life.

EasterLunch · 29/03/2024 19:29

Thanks all. It’s interesting to read the responses l.

I attended Catholic school and I’m technically Catholic(Though in reality an Atheist) and I have a huge devout Catholic family on one side and yet I still don’t know a single person who does Easter lunch.

We always have a leg of lamb on Easter Sunday.

Us too. I've been out and bought it this morning and I'm planning to slow cook it with lots of rosemary and garlic. At the moment I'm trying to decide between roasties or dauphenois potatoes to go with it 😋

TitaniasAss · 29/03/2024 19:31

We do. Just a big roast and Easter type dessert. This year it's warm mini egg cookie cake with ice cream.

Geebray · 29/03/2024 19:32

Yes, always. Roast lamb.

And fish on Good Friday.

SophiaElise · 29/03/2024 19:32

I've never cooked anything special on easter Sunday.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 29/03/2024 19:33

We are having my family here for lunch Saturday and a big Sunday lunch at in-laws with egg hunt Sunday. It’s more we have time to get together because a lot of us work weekends usually. We don’t do anything on Good Friday.

scrivette · 29/03/2024 19:33

Yes, always have a roast dinner at my parents on Easter Sunday.

AnneElliott · 29/03/2024 19:34

Yes we do a big Easter lunch and aren't Catholic! This year we're going out to a restaurant but often one of the family will cook for the rest of us.

MsJuniper · 29/03/2024 19:38

We used to have lamb but more recently turkey as it isn't as expensive and goes further. It's usually an extra nice roast with starter and pudding as well.

mathanxiety · 29/03/2024 19:46

I do an Easter dinner.

I also do a Christmas dinner.

Both meals are eaten in the evening. I don't know how anyone could pack away a roast and trimmings in the middle of the day.

piscofrisco · 29/03/2024 19:46

Yes! I prefer Easter to Christmas and we have family round and go all out for it. I trim up and everything. I love it!

stargirl1701 · 29/03/2024 19:47

Yes. It's pretty much the same as Christmas but with lamb rather than turkey. PILs are here for the weekend but my Dad isn't going to make due to a wedding the day before. Just too much in one weekend for him.

ByUmberViewer · 29/03/2024 19:50

Yeah I do a lovely roast lamb dinner and invite family around to eat dinner and scoff easter eggs afterwards.

I'm astonished the OP doesn't know a single person who cooks a nice meal on Easter Sunday.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 29/03/2024 19:52

I also prefer Easter to Christmas. There isn't as much pressure, no presents to buy apart from Easter eggs and the weather is much better which means it's nicer to go for a walk/do some gardening 😊

EndlesslyDistracted · 29/03/2024 19:54

No, we rarely eat roast dinners and one person doesn't like lamb at all. We've just eaten a meat dinner on Good Friday too, we don't really see have food traditions for Easter apart from chocolate.

PandaG · 29/03/2024 19:57

Yes. Roast lamb and all the trimmings. Probably the only time I cook a roast all year, as I rarely cook Christmas dinner. We invite any students or young adults, and friends from our church house group who haven't gone home for Easter back to ours for the full works. I'm also cooking chicken (and maybe a nut roast or similar) this year to ensure there is something for everyone. DD isn't getting home until Monday so we will have a repeat performance the following day too, but I'll be serving up leftovers from the Sunday.
