(Assuming that it doesn’t clash with your own beliefs) but if not do you celebrate it?

Personally I’ve never known anyone who does make a special lunch but then Sunday roasts don’t seem to be as popular here as in other parts of the country.

Parents didn’t when I was growing up. They don’t like roast dinners and we were more than likely away in France for Easter (so I was probably being dragged round a chateaux).

I’ll be alone on Easter Sunday but will still do a roast dinner as I like them. In fact, I’ll be eating the leftovers for days as I’ve bought a leg of lamb (it was massively reduced)! A whole leg of lamb for one 😂. I’ll turn into a bloody 🐑

Also had to buy me own bloody Easter egg too.

We don't. In fact we don't really do anything special at Easter apart from eat chocolate.

Totally this!

RogueFemale · 29/03/2024 20:32

No, but Waitrose was sold out of brussel sprouts today, which means other people are doing it. I got a pack of frozen sprouts instead.

DanceMumTaxi · 29/03/2024 20:34

We always have a lamb roast at Easter. I’m surprised so many people don’t seem to bother.

43ontherocksporfavor · 29/03/2024 20:37

Yes, I was brought up Catholic and went to church on Good Friday and then Easter Sunday. After mass on Sunday would be given an Easter egg and mum would make a roast.
I don’t go to church anymore but it’s normally a family day with a meal which has been a roast or a bbq depending on the weather in the South of U.K. The DC would have an Easter egg hunt at my DM’s house after mass when they were little.
No lamb however as I dislike it. Chicken this year but has been salmon quite often as it feels quite fresh and spring-like.

Ohpleease · 29/03/2024 20:39

Yes we do. Catholic family & we all gets together, at ours this year for a big leg of lamb roast dinner.

Perfectlystill · 29/03/2024 21:21

OP I want to know why you changed your username to ask such an innocuous question!

mindutopia · 29/03/2024 22:57

Yes, always had a special lunch on Easter, even growing up. As did Dh. I’m Jewish (Dh is an atheist), but we both like a good feast day and like to cook. So always done a special Easter lunch and an egg hunt and kids get chocolate eggs. It’s a cultural rather than religious celebration for us, as neither are Christian.

Wacadu · 29/03/2024 23:07

Nope. We do Easter eggs but that's as far as it goes. We never do Sunday roast either.

Grimchmas · 29/03/2024 23:15

About an hour ago I remembered there is a large joint of beef in the freezer, so the answer is yes, this year we are having a roast!

It's maybe 50/50 usually if we do or not, (i have a feelingb the beef in the freezer is from this time last year) but it's the 2nd of only 2 special meals we cook in a year so I feel like it will be a nice thing to do

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 29/03/2024 23:18

Not usually but I remembered about a week ago there's a large leg of lamb in the freezer, was planned for a roast a few weeks ago but the family members coming ended up with chicken pox and it was too big for 3 of us. We've got my parents coming for lunch Sunday so I'll do a lamb roast

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/03/2024 23:24

Always,it's like Xmas here without the presents.

LoreleiG · 29/03/2024 23:29

I go to my mum’s who makes a nice lunch as family come over and we do an egg hunt. I go to the vigil mass with her on a Saturday night because she is catholic. I think most people just do what they feel like doing.

Caluse · 29/03/2024 19:23

Yes we always have a nice Easter lunch, this year DH and DD are having beef and DS and I are having Juicy Marbles.

I need to know what Juicy Marbles are???

lingmerth · 30/03/2024 00:06

Yes. Roast turkey and all the trimmings. Family round to celebrate. Has always been the same in my family.

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/03/2024 00:06

Always a lamb roast here, with lots of trimmings (roasts, mash, Yorkshire puds, carrots, parsnips, peas, cabbage, gravy, mint sauce etc and then an Easter cheesecake.

Mrbumpssmile · 30/03/2024 00:15

I find Easter very lonely as we don't know anyone who celebrates it, but DC and I always do a huge egg hunt in the park with elaborate clues and a map, then we bake a cake. And of course we eat a lot of chocolate.

It's very much an ancient celebration of spring (and chocolate) for us, so we plant flower seeds and spend a lot of time in nature.

augustusglupe · 30/03/2024 00:22

Yes, always have. We have Roast Chicken with all the trimmings. Last year we had Duck.
I’ve made Jamie’s Simnel cake and some Brownies.

almostspring2024 · 30/03/2024 00:28

RC here
Yes it's celebrated here with lamb roast after mass
Have also always had a huge Easter egg hunt in the garden early morning

Girasoli · 30/03/2024 06:05

We're also Catholic and we always have a big meal at my parents house. We also have church in the morning and a big Easter Egg hunt at some point and me and/or mum will usually attempt to bake something overly complicated. It's a busy weekend for us!

AhBiscuits · 30/03/2024 06:14

Yes I'll normally cook a roast. We're staying at inlaws this weekend and MIL is doing a roast.

DiscoBeat · 30/03/2024 06:17

We always do have a special Easter lunch (we're not religious).

Willmafrockfit · 30/03/2024 06:18

yes we do
although i am struggling to remember previous easters!
but i have pictures of family meet ups and walking in the sunshine

AuntieMarys · 30/03/2024 06:19

No....but then I don't do a traditional big Xmas dinner either.

SomewhereFarAwayFromThere · 30/03/2024 06:23

No, we just have anything. We’ll probably have stir fry, thats if anyone is feeling like eating something half decent after consuming their body weight in chocolate eggs.

I don’t eat meat so the thought of lamb roast makes me feel 🤮
