Do most people have a special Easter lunch.

(Assuming that it doesn’t clash with your own beliefs) but if not do you celebrate it?

Personally I’ve never known anyone who does make a special lunch but then Sunday roasts don’t seem to be as popular here as in other parts of the country.

We are, I love Easter, I think of it as like Christmas without the stress. We did eggs today, big day out tomorrow and then a lamb roast on Sunday.

TheSnowyOwl · 29/03/2024 19:59

Erm, chocolate.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/03/2024 20:00

Easter has always been a big thing in my family. So tomorrow I shall be doing a lovely big roast, apple pie for after. I'm hosting and looking forward to a lovely afternoon! My background is Catholic but I am lapsed.
However, it's an important date to me and I like to celebrate it.

Queijo · 29/03/2024 20:02

Easter is a huge thing in our fam, but we do it because Grandma is very religious. Left to our own devices my parents would probably do oven pizzas for us all 😂

But Dd is 7 and very much into God and Jesus and everything at the moment so it does make it special for her.

I'm agnostic, but taking Dd to church at the actual crack of dawn on Sunday for the resurrection service. She’s excited for the holy water flicking!

yickytee · 29/03/2024 20:03

We tend to. Having roast turkey this year as I had a frozen one left over from Christmas!

Timeandtidy · 29/03/2024 20:03

Yes, roast and trimmings

Taytocrisps · 29/03/2024 20:03

I'm doing a lamb dinner but I'm mindful of my lovely Easter egg, so I won't bother with dessert.

PainPerdu · 29/03/2024 20:04

Yes we do, usually roast lamb. Hot Cross Bun bread and butter pudding for dessert. We also always eat fish on Good Friday, usually a fish pie.

Starseeking · 29/03/2024 20:06

We are Catholic and always have lamb and salmon with all the roast trimmings at my parents.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 29/03/2024 20:08

No religious leanings here but I used today as the perfect opportunity to have my nearest and dearest here for a roast.

NameChangedAgainn · 29/03/2024 20:09

We don't and we don't know anyone that does either. I was discussing it with friends (all late twenties to early thirties) this week when we realised it was Easter this weekend and some said their parents/grandparents used to do a roast diner some Easters when they were growing up but none bother now.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 29/03/2024 20:09

Yes, always! Not because we are religious but because everyone makes an effort to get together over Easter.

CantFindTheBeat · 29/03/2024 20:11

Yes, we always have the family over, lots of Easter eggs for all, and a massive roast with lots of trimmings. Usually lamb.

Crowgirl · 29/03/2024 20:11

Yes always. It's how I was brought up. Not religious but mark all the big days

Pandaandpurple · 29/03/2024 20:12

I’ve never done lamb for Easter dinner. This Sunday I’m going to do a home made chicken pie (served at tea time, not lunch), purely as I’ve got time to do one this weekend.

Dogskidsdogs · 29/03/2024 20:12

Easter eggs here will probably be the only change to any other Sunday. It's just me and 2DC with no other family and we don't tend to follow normal traditions

Roast chicken dinner (Sunday roast is the norm). We may buy a pudding to have (if we don't feel sick after all the chocolate!)

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 29/03/2024 20:13

I'm not religious but we always have lamb and bread and butter pudding made with hot cross buns for dessert. Very traditional and I love it. But then Sunday dinner is still common where I am so I'd say most people mark that it's Easter Sunday in some way.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 29/03/2024 20:13

Yes we do, usually its kievs with mash or new potatoes and veg

we do a dessert, i quite like a bread and butter style pudding with hot cross buns but this yea4 we have lemon tart and some sort of brownie thing left over from Christmas

i make little easter cakes and we are having hotdogs and crisps for tea, loads of chocolate obviously 😀

lollypoop · 29/03/2024 20:13

We are a large Catholic family and Easter is a bigger deal than Christmas, Sunday is going to be huge! Today is a day of fasting and abstinence.

mollyfolk · 29/03/2024 20:14

Yes - plan the dinner - roast lamb with all the trimmings. We’re having people over for the dinner. I’ve been making hot cross buns the last few years. My eldest DD wlll do a special dessert. We also paint eggs and decorate a branches with them. I was raised catholic but my own children have no religion- I’m just in it for the food & occasion of it.

ohpumpkinseeds · 29/03/2024 20:14

Yes always have a nice lunch, usually with people over and then an egg hunt for the kids.

Like PP I also prefer it to Christmas because there's no big lead up, no presents or stress, and people are on the whole not so run down. There's also none of the angst over traditions or snarky family members morning about being "fair" about who you spend time with. It's less excessive too in terms of drinking/eating etc.

For most people, the four day weekend (I know some people still have to work!) is a enough to give some balanced time off too - you don't feel like you've spent the whole time socialising or hosting. I'll go back to work Tuesday and think feel I've done a bit of everything, socialised, exercised, tidied up the house, rested etc.

medianewbie · 29/03/2024 20:15

Geebray · 29/03/2024 19:32

Yes, always. Roast lamb.

And fish on Good Friday.

Us too.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 29/03/2024 20:17

Sometimes, depends if we're on the mood for it. This year has been busy so far and we just want a long weekend of doing very little so I've bought all the good sides for a roast pre-prepped - pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, yorkies, stuffing balls, gravy, honey carrots and we're just going to have those without the roast meat. Then all the chocolate.

Perfectlystill · 29/03/2024 20:17

We always have a big Easter lunch as does everyone we know. It's always roast lamb, we buy specially nice red wine to go with it, and have champagne before lunch.

Happy memories of chasing the children around the garden looking for eggs mildly pissed....

We still get mildly pissed but just hand each teenager an egg and that's it.

It's a really nice day and the family all comes together - aunts and uncles and grannies etc. Good fun and so nice to make the effort.

Whattheduck · 29/03/2024 20:30

Normally we’d have a roast but Dh is working away so just myself and Dd who is working until 3.00 so we are having a Chinese takeaway in the evening
