Best way to make a bacon sandwich

I've just had a bacon sandwich 😍

I don't eat bacon very often because I only like it the way I cook it at home- very well done with every single bit of fat cut off. I make myself a bacon sandwich maybe once a month when I get a craving, probably a good thing given the way I like to cook it!

IMO this is the only way to make a bacon sandwich:

All the fat cut off
Fried in too much butter til basically caramelised
On white bread or sourdough with more butter and brown sauce

Served with a glass of orange juice with bits.

Surely this can't be topped!

That's a crime against the bacon sandwich.

Try it and report back to me.
Grovelling...

Unsmoked bacon, done under the grill until crispy - fat left on. Lightly toasted bagel thin, with butter on one side, and brown sauce on the other.

This is a hill on which I am willing to die.

A crispy bacon bagel is my choice too.

Forget caramelised, whatever that is, streaky bacon with the fat rendered. Never back bacon and never fat still white. Brown or white bread but never sourdough as no absorption. No butter on bread. Ketchup, brown sauce or mayonnaise as per your preference

The whole point of bacon is flavour and succulence. Give over with your cut the fat off madness. The fat is where the flavour and succulence are. <heathens>

Grilled smoked bacon including fat on a non buttered, soft but not floury roll with no sauce. Sliced white bread will do as an alternative. Happy to include a bit of black pudding, other items are non-negotiaable

(Very) Lightly toasted thickly sliced bread. DH prefers white. I prefer whole meal.
Lots of bacon: thinly sliced and smoked and dry-cured: I don't like the white salty water that comes out of wet-cured. Grilled or dry fried is fine.
Mayo spread on one slice, topped with thickly sliced room temperature tomatoes, then plenty of bacon, then last slice of toast spread with either brown sauce or (trust me) marmalade.
Yum!!

Fry three rashers of bacon in a pan - leave all of the fat on (wtf?). Let it go very slightly crispy and develop brown bits, but not overdone. Introduce fluffy, white roll. Generously butter said roll. Shove in all of the bacon. Add a decent blob of tomato ketchup.

Smoked dry cured back bacon with the fat untouched. Grilled until fat sizzling but not too crispy. Wholemeal seedy bread lightly toasted spread with plenty of butter. Tinned chopped tomatoes heated up then put through a sieve so not too gloopy. Some of the tomatoes thinly spread on one of the slices of toast then this slice used as top of the sandwich

Crusty cob or wholemeal bread
Grilled Smoked bacon medallions
Grilled tomato

OP, yours sounds delicious. But there are three changes I'd make -

Have the bacon cooked two ways. Two slices of bacon with the fat cut off, lightly fried, so they are just cooked, succulent and juicy. Another two slices with fat left on, well cooked with the fat all caramelised and crispy.

Tomato ketchup

Builder's tea

See reading this, almost all of you like it crispy. So why oh why when you go out to eat is bacon barely cooked, with soggy, stretchy, disgusting fat? I refuse to eat bacon in restaurants it makes me feel ill!

peloton2024 · 01/04/2024 01:40

I had one today that was delicious!
Bacon cooked until very crispy (almost snapping)
Fried egg
Buttered toast
Brown sauce

We used to order breakfast at work sometimes and my colleague got it perfect for me
I heard him say "by well done bacon I mean burn it, burn it again and when it looks like it's fit for the bin, that's great"

Maybe this is what I need to say 😂

@peloton2024 @PippetyPoppetyPie But why? Why??

KeepingItUnderTheRadar · 01/04/2024 01:47

All the fat cut off?

Why don't you just throw it on the floor and stamp on it while you're at it?

I like it really crispy! Streaky bacon so you could snap it and back bacon done so it's got a crispy edge. Hate stringy fat

I’m with @peloton2024 Bacon should be crispy enough to snap. Soggy fat is 🤢

sashh · 01/04/2024 07:04

Grilled or fried until crispy.

Heat a pita bread, fill it with a mix of crispy lettuce and bacon and add a dollop of creme fraiche.

EatCrow · 01/04/2024 07:07

I love the fat (and rind when I can get it). BLTs are my favourite bacon sandwich.

usernother · 01/04/2024 07:11

Leave the fat on. 4 mins in the air fryer. Bacon should never be crispy, it's vile so it's better slightly underdone. 2 slices of white bread. Butter and tomato sauce. Delicious.

Yes! Or like you I tell them to burn it because their ideas of well done is not mine. 😄

waftabout · 01/04/2024 07:20

@BruceAndNosh I can't imagine ever wanting to try this. The thought makes me feel nauseous but thanks! 😄

Gingerkittykat · 01/04/2024 17:20

I had a BLT for lunch.

4 rashers of streaky bacon cooked in a dry frying pan till very crispy.

Harvester roll from the bakers spread with both lurpak and a bit of mayo on both sides.

Assemble and enjoy.

DisforDarkChocolate · 01/04/2024 17:22

Grill streaky bacon till crispy.
Place between folded flatbread with chilli jam.
Toast in sandwich press.

Enjoy, but wish you were at Dishoom for breakfast.
