Easter Eggs in a multicultural workplace

I lead a small team in an education business, i.e. we work to school terms.

Usually I get a small gift for my staff at the end of each term and at Easter it's Eggs. Until now, I worked in a very white area where people are mostly not religious but broadly Christian by heritage. Everyone has Eggs without attaching much religious significance to them.

This year, I have moved to a different area and in my team I have an Israeli Jew and a Bengali Muslim.

Do I get Eggs, they're just chocolate tokens of the season, or absolutely not? If not, what else?

I'd get a basket of eggs and chocolate bars and some other goodies and let people have at it.

Just get eggs and stop being offended on behalf of other people. Other religions don't care about this shit largely, despite what the media tell you.

Agreed . Honestly it's just a small token of appreciation no one will give even the smallest of shits about the fact it's an Easter treat.

Get something with wrapping so that the Muslim can take it away as they may be fasting during the day for Ramadan.

I'm only wondering what the right thing to do is, especially during Ramadan. You can say no one cares but around here Ramadan is being very much adhered to and workplaces and schools have made a lot of adjustments.

Aren’t Easter Eggs a commercial thing rather than a religious thing? I’d buy the eggs as you planned.

I teach in a very multicultural school, with lots of muslims and some hindus. I've not known any refuse chocolate eggs unless they are fasting. The only students who tend to give them a swerve are the Jehova's Witnesses tbh.

I work in a multi cultural environment. We will ALL be massively disappointed if we don’t get an Easter Egg . Everyone loves chocolate .

Those who are fasting will just eat the egg later. Why would it be an issue for those fasting?

For goodness sake just get the eggs.

I’m sure your colleagues will really appreciate the Easter eggs OP. It’s really nice that you are being so thoughtful but this is a kind gesture and isn’t something that would offend.

The ones who are fasting will just take the eggs home. They won't care about other people eating theirs at work.

And if you're worried about Ramadan, I'm sure the eggs will keep until the 9th April.

Like quite a few things, non-Christian origins but adopted as a Christian tradition .

They can eat them the same day, Just after Sunset.

I’ve just heard the term ‘gesture eggs’ on the local news, it seems some may be offended.

Of course they can but some Muslims still like to eat simply and may see chocolate as indulgent.

Either way, the OP is waaaay overthinking on behalf of other people.

Like everyone said, just get them. I once asked a Muslim colleague if he preferred me not to eat near him during Ramadan, and he said that fasting while other people ate only strengthened his faith.

And everyone likes chocolate and appreciates a small gift.

IME Muslims will often have some chocolate to break their fast in the same way that they might have dates or nuts. Get a dark chocolate egg for the Jewish colleague as if are very strictly observant you would need to check if a milk chocolate egg is kosher.
