Am I eating too little ?

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 12:50

Around 8 months ago I started cutting my calories to loose weight
Crept up to nearly 12 stone
I'm 5ft 7 so it's not always obvious on me but I felt it
Anyway now I'm 9 stone 4 and still loosing
Tbh I'm happy with my weight now
I don't really want to loose more but I'm not sure if my diet is too little to maintain and il loose more.
Breakfast -2 egg omelette
Lunch -2 slices of bread (120 cals ) with a egg mayo or cheese savoury filler (170 cals )
Dinner -something around 600-700 cals
Snacks -1 biscuit (100 cals )

My only exercise is 10,000 steps a day
Before I put the weight on I was slim and always struggled to gain then I got a partner and put it on with lockdown (no steps ) etc

What do you think ?

@Mummame2222 if that's the case OP needs to see a doctor

@Absym I don't think you understand the point

Oh don’t I? Please explain the point.

Im not convinced this thread is real.

No, 10K steps a day is not sedentary.

No, your diet is not healthy. If you are still losing weight then you arent eating enough. Its that simple, with the caveat you do not suspect an underlying illness.

Some of the posters on this thread have worryingly disordered eating.

I think what it might be is my tdee should be 1800 cals to maintain and because I'm only eating 1500 that's why
I know people have said 10,000 isn't exercise
Maybe it is enough for me to loose weight

@Absym just adding foods in when your diet isn't nutritious and is full of UPFs doesn't do anything

The example day you provided was nowhere near 1500 calories

True but I didn’t think the diet in the OP was full of UPFs, just needed a few more vitamins and healthy fats

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 20:28

A sedentary person would be doing less than 3000 steps. Doing 10k steps a day is enough to benefit your health and reduce blood pressure and inflammation.

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 20:29

@concernedchild I wouldn't say eggs and chicken and veg are over processed foods tbh
I could understand if I was having ready meals etc

OP posts:
43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 20:29

OP eat proper bread!

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 20:29

@43ontherocksporfavor oh thanks for that info
I was told that steps (even 10,000 ) doesn't count as exercise and I was sedentary
So I've based all my calculations on me being sedentary

OP posts:
43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 20:33

Definitely not. I was listening to a podcast with Prof Janet Lord who has studied inflammation in the body.

The bread? The sandwich filler? The biscuits?

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 21:22

@concernedchild tbh I'm not worried about my diet ,I think it's pretty balanced
There's a lot worse diets out there
I would be miserable as sin if I didn't eat a biscuit

OP posts:
43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 21:30

I agree OP and you didn’t ask about the quality of your diet .

SayFuckTheLemonsAndBail · 26/03/2024 21:34

I agree too. Nowt wrong with having a treat.

Mummame2222 · 26/03/2024 22:10

concernedchild · 26/03/2024 20:06

@Mummame2222 only one of those can be true? Either she's eating less or she's wildly underestimating her calories

No, not really. She’s still could be in a deficit but eating much more the her estimated 1200ish calories a day.

Notsuretoputit · 27/03/2024 00:15

Mummame2222 · 26/03/2024 19:52

Darling, she asked if she wasn’t going eating enough.

What?

Notsuretoputit · 27/03/2024 00:23

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 19:58

@Notsuretoputit an omelette is more than two eggs! Oil to cook and what is in the omelette?

No it is not. Two eggs, splash of water, bit of salt, few cherry tomatoes/tomatoes/mushrooms/onion/pepper/leeks/any wilted greens. There are loads of other options too although albeit they’d be not conducive to weight loss - cheese especially springs to mind.

My omelette is never more than two, and I will spray the pan with olive oil - maybe a dozen calories - but OP might use a non-stick pan.

Notsuretoputit · 27/03/2024 00:30

BobbyBiscuits · 26/03/2024 19:58

@Notsuretoputit my maths is terrible. I guess for me when I see an egg, it could up to 100 cals. An omelette usually has a bit of oil at least. I guess you can get 60 calories bread...
And no drinks at all?
I kind of add on a bit in my own mind as well.
In which case they should definitely go up to 2000 to maintain rather than lose. With all those steps?

A large egg is 70 calories, not 100.

Oil or a non-stick pan.

OP said the calories for her bread.

I only drink water all day (unless I drink wine).

I am also 5’7. 2000 is gaining weight territory.

Notsuretoputit · 27/03/2024 00:32

NotFastButFurious · 26/03/2024 19:53

You’re probably hungry in an afternoon because you’re hardly eating all day and then having the majority of your calories in an evening meal. Unless you work the night shift that doesn’t make sense for fuelling your body so eat more for breakfast and lunch!

An omelette and a sandwich is not hardly eating.

SnowFrogJelly · 27/03/2024 00:53

steps don't count, that's just moving).

10,000 steps a day absolutely does count!

NotFastButFurious · 27/03/2024 06:03

Notsuretoputit · 27/03/2024 00:32

An omelette and a sandwich is not hardly eating.

2 eggs, 2 slices of low calorie bread and a bit of ham IS hardly eating all day!! Particularly if you’re then wondering why you’re hungry mid afternoon 🙄

CaliforniaHereWeCome1 · 27/03/2024 06:55

There are some really bonkers responses on this thread. Sounds like you’re eating too little to maintain your weight OP. 10k steps is not sedentary and will burn around 300 ish calories on its own. I would add in a large healthy snack with your biscuit (oatcakes are good with cheese/hummus/guacamole, apple with nut butter, a protein shake sometimes is fine) and see how you get on.

BlueMoonOnce · 27/03/2024 06:58

This thread is mad.
OP stated she had always been slim, and put on weight when she got a new partner, ( maybe her diet changed here) and over lockdown when she was less active.
She has now addressed the issue and is happy with her weight.
She continues to lose weight, so needs to eat a bit more.
