Am I eating too little ?

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 12:50

Around 8 months ago I started cutting my calories to loose weight
Crept up to nearly 12 stone
I'm 5ft 7 so it's not always obvious on me but I felt it
Anyway now I'm 9 stone 4 and still loosing
Tbh I'm happy with my weight now
I don't really want to loose more but I'm not sure if my diet is too little to maintain and il loose more.
Breakfast -2 egg omelette
Lunch -2 slices of bread (120 cals ) with a egg mayo or cheese savoury filler (170 cals )
Dinner -something around 600-700 cals
Snacks -1 biscuit (100 cals )

My only exercise is 10,000 steps a day
Before I put the weight on I was slim and always struggled to gain then I got a partner and put it on with lockdown (no steps ) etc

What do you think ?

Could you swap the biscuits for some vegetables?

Love a side of broccoli with my cup of tea.

You’re not alone 😱😂

Whatifthehokeycokey · 26/03/2024 18:39

You're eating a lot of eggs! I think I'd be worried about cholesterol.

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 18:39

Eggs don’t cause high cholesterol! That’s old advice.

Seems about right. People eat way too much these days!

😂😂😂 we've lost sight of what a healthy portion size is? Why can't every family live off huge salads and one chicken a week?

MN absolutely burns my head out

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 19:02

@RainraingoawayRosie I could never give up biscuits 🤣

Why? They don't affect cholesterol

If you are continuing to lose weight and a little tired in the afternoon how about a second snack in the afternoon as needed?

25g nuts or a banana for example. Observe your weight and see if the extra 150 calories is enough to hit a maintenance goal.

Absym · 26/03/2024 19:13

Also water. Are you drinking enough? I always feel tired if I’m not drinking enough water.

Mummame2222 · 26/03/2024 19:14

ohletthesunshine · 26/03/2024 17:27

@Mummame2222 no I don't weigh or measure my food -couldn't be bothered with that

We grossly overestimate our calories as a nation. I would bet money that you’re eating more then you expect.

Absym · 26/03/2024 19:17

concernedchild · 26/03/2024 16:36

@CactusMactus @Absym she's losing weight when not wishing to, and not eating nutritious food. Hardly helpful comments are they

Bananas and nuts are nutritious and would help maintain weight.

concernedchild · 26/03/2024 19:20

@Mummame2222 if that's the case OP needs to see a doctor

@Absym I don't think you understand the point

WaitingForMojo · 26/03/2024 19:23

You’re definitely eating far too little and I think you know it, but this is the wrong place to ask as disordered eating tends to be normalised on MN.

Please elaborate why that is.

It's around 2000 cals. If you've been eating that and losing with your exercise regime, then you'll continue to lose.
Definitely take a good quality multivitamin, folate, b vits, thiamine and calcium if you dislike having fruit and veg for every meal.
If your evening meal is unprocessed and full of veg and protein it's not the worst diet.
Try adding nuts or fruit, crudites and hummus, oatcakes, and natural yoghurt etc as snacks a couple times a day.
You sound like a healthy weight right now.

concernedchild · 26/03/2024 19:39

@Mummame2222 if they're overestimating their calories and continuing to lose when they should be maintaining or even gaining, it can point to a serious health issue.

2000 calories?

Two eggs are 140.

Her dinner is 290.

Biscuit is 100.

Tea 700.

1230 calories.

Darling, she asked if she wasn’t going eating enough.

well yes but OP doesn’t know exactly how many calories she’s consuming and she has intentionally changed her diet/decreased it so no cause for alarm atm.

NotFastButFurious · 26/03/2024 19:53

You’re probably hungry in an afternoon because you’re hardly eating all day and then having the majority of your calories in an evening meal. Unless you work the night shift that doesn’t make sense for fuelling your body so eat more for breakfast and lunch!

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 19:56

Hardly eating? An omelette for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch is plenty!

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 19:58

@Notsuretoputit an omelette is more than two eggs! Oil to cook and what is in the omelette?

BobbyBiscuits · 26/03/2024 19:58

@Notsuretoputit my maths is terrible. I guess for me when I see an egg, it could up to 100 cals. An omelette usually has a bit of oil at least. I guess you can get 60 calories bread...
And no drinks at all?
I kind of add on a bit in my own mind as well.
In which case they should definitely go up to 2000 to maintain rather than lose. With all those steps?

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 19:59

A sandwich is 200 cals just for the bread! My seedy bread is 120 per slice.

concernedchild · 26/03/2024 20:06

@Mummame2222 only one of those can be true? Either she's eating less or she's wildly underestimating her calories
