Just that really!

Anything under 25. Same for a first time mum.

Dacadactyl · 25/03/2024 18:39

Anything under 20. But then I know a lad who was 17 with his first and he's a great dad (he's now 27)

My DH was 23 when we had our eldest (DH is now 40)

What do you think OP?

Meadowfinch · 25/03/2024 18:40

25 or younger

Joone · 25/03/2024 18:41

under 24

My DH is 25 and one of his relatives thinks he’s young, that’s the reason for posting. I thought I’d see what the general consensus was

Under 25

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/03/2024 18:42

Probably under about 28. Women too. Really can’t see why you’d have kids so young. My DP was 22 - bonkers.

Comedycook · 25/03/2024 18:42

Yes 25 and under

In the grand scheme of things he will seem young in a lot of circles. We are uni graduates and most of our friends became first time parents a decade later than us, at least. Same with our cousins. Depends who you mix with.

zurg123 · 25/03/2024 18:44

Under 25

Blanketpolicy · 25/03/2024 18:45

25 is young by todays standards but by no means "too" young.

He would be too young though if he was immature, financially dependent, didn't have his own home etc.

Ffion56 · 25/03/2024 18:46

My husband was under 25. No one ever mentioned it. Once you have a child you instantly seem older (ie knackered!) I think.

Technically, on the NHS, under 25 was the age to qualify for young parent groups, although I don’t suppose that type of thing exists anymore!

I disagree. Having a child young can 100% give you the impetus to do all those things. We mightve been the youngest of all our friends to become parents, but we were the first to get on the property ladder.

Kalevala · 25/03/2024 18:48

Under 20. My friend was great 19 year old dad though.

Desecratedcoconut · 25/03/2024 18:48

Under 22/23.

DyslexicPoster · 25/03/2024 18:48

I was going to say under 25 too. Just from the pov of if you have been in higher education and traveled and then establishing a career. We was 29. It seemed old at the time.

theduchessofspork · 25/03/2024 18:49

Under 25 - dad or mum

PuttingDownRoots · 25/03/2024 18:50

DH and I were 27 and 25 when we had DD1, who is now nearly 13 (and DD2 is 11). We were quite young... but that wasn't a bad thing. We met young, so were ready young.

I find it amusing my mother was considered quite old to have her first... at 29!

lul1 · 25/03/2024 18:50

My DH was 28 (14 years ago) it seems pretty young now.

AhBiscuits · 25/03/2024 18:51

My first instinct was 25 is young.

mitogoshi · 25/03/2024 18:53

Under 25, under 21 for sure. That said if you are mentally, physically and financially capable of raising a child then the age isn't relevant

DetOliviaBenson · 25/03/2024 18:53

DH was 18 when he became a dad. He's always been a fantastic dad, (he's 49 now).

On the flip side when I know of people having babies in their late 30s and 40s I wonder why you'd want to be having babies at that age.

Missmariannedashwood · 25/03/2024 18:55

Anything under 25. Same for a woman.

fungipie · 25/03/2024 18:56

Same here, under 25.
